Any OOS get Interview Invites?

With this university receiving no state funding, wouldn't it make more sense for them to take mostly OOS applicants? They could take a bunch of the CA students who will pay OOS rates. There is little to no financial incentive for them to take IS over OOS studnets. Essentially this school could function as a private school it seems.

I initially thought this to, which is why at my interview I asked the percentages (75% IS). They said one primary reason for the medical school is to increase docs in the Upstate, thus the reason for the 75% IS.

Right, I heard this too...simply an observation. Good news for those in SC.

What did you think of the interview here?

Ha yeah I wish I was an SC resident. As for the interview, the admissions staff was very transparent and candid. They realize that being a new school there will be a lot of challenges that need to be overcome. I like that they are open for feedback (from prospective students and in the future, current students). The new building is going to be awesome and the existing hospital (Greenville Memorial) is pretty beast.

Wheylp, there go my chances. I thought this school was it; but with the above statement and my fecal MCAT, it seems a long-shot. I was candid in saying I hope to practice in the rural West, too. I was banking on their statements of diversity which mesh well with my app overall. Oh well, we'll see.

Anyone get an interview invite before their check cleared?

Yeah, you never know! Dude with an MCAT retake you will be a superstar.
Yes- got an invite before my payment was received.

Anyone mind posting the secondary app questions?? definitely want to get a head start on this one..

How did you all answer the healthcare question on the supplemental?

What was the question again? It's been nearly a month since I completed it. I've had so much going on since then that I honestly do not recall.

at this point in the game, how long is it taking between submitting secondary and interview invite?

dreading the drive in the AM. thankfully, this is my last interview!

It took about a week for me, granted I was on the first interview day.

i'd like to know the same thing. I submitted my secondary on 10/20 and still haven't heard anything about an interview. my guess is they just got overwhelmed and weren't prepared for the amount of applications they got?

that's the best explanation I can come up with haha

I must say that the interviews today have been on par with those that I have had at MUSC/USC-Cola. They were definitely laid back. All of the faculty that we met seemed extremely passionate and excited about the charter class of 2016. Definitely do not sweat the interviews. As for the school, I cannot vouch about the building. I didn't take the tour as I got a text right before my last interview stating that my best friend had just gotten put on a ventilator and is in critical care. Since the tour was optional, I opted to head home. I figured I'd jump on here while I'm waiting in the waiting room to find out her condition. Good meeting you all. Best of luck to each of you. :xf:

It was great meeting you as well! I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I hope everything works out with her.

As for the building, IMO you really didn't miss anything by bypassing the tour. It looks like a construction site with a bunch of pictures to visualize what it will end up being, and those are all up on the website under the Facilities tab.

For everyone else, I agree with everything said. This was my first interview, and I was extremely nervous beforehand, but the interviewers I had were pretty laid back (one of my interviewers actually dropped the F-bomb ). Overall, I came out feeling really good about the day. Of course, only time will tell. I'm actually quite impressed with the campus and curriculum as a whole. They definitely have a unique plan in order, and it pushed this school higher on my list.

:xf::luck::xf: Good luck to all who have applied!

I submitted mine on the same day as you so I'm not sure what the hold up is. Have you received confirmation that they received your payment?

Did they say when they will be offering the first acceptances? They told us 3-4 weeks (that was 2 weeks ago). Thanks!

They said "by the end of the month - if not sooner" for our round. No idea about the first acceptances.

I appreciate it. Unfortunately, she's been battling abdominal tumors for the last 6 years and is on her way out. She's still hanging in there at the moment but I don't expect her to last another week. Good luck with the rest of your interviews!

They told us that we should be hearing something from them within a month; however, they didn't give us a specific date.

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear about your friend. It must be so difficult to simultaneously endure the tragedy of your friend and the stress of applying to med school. Hang in there. I wish your friend comfort and peace.

First off, thank you. I really appreciate it. I could sit here all day and give you a depressing story about how difficult my life is but let's be real about it, one of my lifelong dreams is finally starting to materialize. Stressful is such a subjective word. I'm not the one laying in a hospital bed with a terminal illness, knowing that I may not live through tomorrow morning. So with that said, her level of "stress" makes my level of stress seem so insignificant. I feel that I have so much to be thankful for. She, too, had aspirations of going to medical school, and I am afraid that she will never get the chance to see all of her hard work pay off. 🙁 Sorry for blabbing on, just remember that for all of us (myself included), things could always be much worse.

Xlcooplx do you mind if I ask which undergraduate school you attend??

anyone received an invite lately? If so, when did you submit your secondary?

Hey, do they out an email when your application is marked complete? I submitted my secondary on 10/30 but I haven't received any emails from them since then. Thanks!

75% of how many seats for the inaugural class? Also, did they mention anything about tuition and in-state versus out-of-state tuition differences??

50 seats total. Tuition will be the same as it is for USC-SOM Columbia...meaning that after 1 year OOS can get IS.

Got an OOS invite today.

Congrats! Would you mind sharing when you were complete and/or your stats?

Also, do they send an e-mail to let us know when they received our checks? Mine was just cashed yesterday per my online banking; but I haven't heard anything yet...

Invite for an interview: November 29th!

In state student; Primary submitted 10/26; Secondary received and submitted around 11/01; Invited 11/16

I should mention that they do not send confirmation that your payment went through. It's kind of just an understood thing.

Thanks that really helps. Now I know where I stand. (I submitted my secondary 11/2.) Good luck!

Congrats! Your handle looks familiar...do you go to school in Mass.?

Accepted! 👍 Anybody else hear anything today?

Congrats to those accepted! I haven't heard anything and I am wondering where the "we are still reviewing your file" email is...

I'm not sure why they didn't send it. Hopefully you get some good news, soon! At least you aren't on the wait list. Good luck! :luck::xf:

What did you all say for the healthcare situation question?

Congrats! I'm a little confused by what's going on with this school to be honest. I emailed the pdf of my application to the school on 10/6, submitted the online primary 10/19, and completed the secondary 10/20. I still haven't heard one thing from the school yet. Any idea why? Does anybody think they're only interviewing candidates they think will be the most likely to go to their school?

I'm in the same boat as you with this school. Haven't heard a peep.
