I just got an interview invite last night at 6.

I'm in state and I have had my secondary complete since August 22nd.

My date is the 19th of October.
 
Just got my interview invite!! Was originally for a date I was going to be travelling, so I had to reschedule for Nov. 9

I'm out of state, but it's a neighboring state (Georgia) so they're throwing me a bone.

Here's my stats:
3.3 GPA, 38Q MCAT

Can't wait to see Memphis! I've heard great things 🙂
 
Louisiana resident? I know it's not one of the 8 states bordering TN, but it's close and rural! Think I should bother applying?

Couldn't hurt, right? What's $30 for a crack at another school? Plus, there aren't any essays on their secondary, which I don't think they even send unless they're willing to interview you. I could be wrong, though. GL!

I will say, one thing that stuck out to me when I interviewed at UT was how personable, helpful, and friendly everyone at the school was.
 
does this school screen for secondaries? or do they automatically send them out?
 
how long did people have to wait from amcas submission to secondary email?

The day after my AMCAS was complete (processed), I got an email from UTHSC about the secondary.
It took about a month for my AMCAS to be processed.

They explicitly say that they admit students 1) from TN, 2) from one of the states bordering TN, and 3) from children of UT alums. I'd rather spend my $30 elsewhere if I were you. 😳

to the two people above this post- i hope your interviews went well!!! to everyone else- how long was it between getting the e-mail your secondary stuff was complete and getting an interview? i was marked complete 10/6

I just received a secondary application today. I'm OOS and submitted my primary application way back in June. It was marked as a second notice, so I guess my spam filter ate it.

So to those of you who are still waiting, don't give up hope.
 
I received an interview invitation on Friday evening (OOS, GA resident), and rescheduled it today since I had a conflict. The administrator was extremely helpful and prompt. I've been told from a friend at UT memphis that she is known for sending emails at odd hours of the day so don't be surprised if you get something on a weekend or late at night!

I have Dr. Valerie Jameson and Dr. Mitch Watsky as my interviewers. Does anyone know anything about them?

Just curious, when was your secondary marked complete?
 
I received an email saying my secondary was complete on Oct 10 and then received the II on Oct 21.
 
It's quiet here. I was complete 9/27 and haven't heard anything yet...OOS
 
I haven't even received a secondary yet. I e-mailed to check on my status and received a reply on 10/21 from Dr. Strother stating that I was "still under review." :bang:

When will they let us know something already? I interviewed over a month ago and still haven't heard a peep (not that anyone else has). Out of all the schools I applied to, UT Memphis has by far the worst admissions infrastructure. The interviews took place all over the campus (which we had to walk to independently). One of my interviewers canceled, and the other was twenty minutes late.

They said they usually meet toward the end of October/early November and just vote "yes or no". No point system/rankings. Don't get me wrong, I very much want to be accepted. I'm in-state so this is pretty much my only option, but jesus, they need to get their ish together.

Apparently people first started receiving acceptance emails on Monday Nov 8th last year. Let's hope they send emails this afternoon or I have to buy airfare to boston aka waste $800 on another interview because UT wants to beat around the bush.

/I wish I were from another state.

/end rant.

I have an interview scheduled for the end of Novemeber with Suzanne Satterfield and Paul Herron. Has anyone heard anything about either? Good luck to everyone still waiting! Thanks!

Hey guys, I'm interviewing tomorrow and I wanted to give some advice.

Don't go for the motels immediately around the school, they're truly awful, I'm really not picky, but tonight I walked out of a motel (the Motel 6) for the first time in my life (and i've been in some seedy places, like Hostels where you have to share a bathroom). The area's not really safe or walkable either, better to get a nicer hotel downtown and cab it in than to try and get close and walk.

I ended up way out in east Memphis since everything else was booked solid, and I'm looking at a $30 cab ride back to the school tomorrow morning plus a longer commute with all my luggage.
 
in the interview packet (the site, i guess) there was also a link to a free place to stay, some sort of on campus house? definitely would have done that if i hadn't stayed with a friend..
 
I interviewed in October and still nothing. Has anyone else who interviewed heard yet?

Nope. They sent out acceptances on Monday the 8th last year so it should be soon, but man they are so slow/disorganized. I suspect they will offer more acceptances/fewer holds merely so they don't have to look at your app again.

I can second the frustrations of applying to UT. I called to inquire how to become an in-state applicant. The rude lady fired back that I should go to a certain page on the website and fill out a residency form...but I had already visited that page several times and called because there WAS NO residency form posted there. I talked to 4 people before I got the form.

I interviewed in early October. I can't remember for sure, but they assured us that they would meet at the end of the month and send out a letter either way; I think they said that would be by Nov. 4th. Guess that didn't exactly happen; oh well. I'm just trying to be patient. haha
 
I know the application process is frustrating, but remember, it is still early November, which is still very early in the application process when it comes to acceptances and interviews, just be patient, good luck everyone.
 
finished UTMemphis' secondary way before I finished ETSU's and I just got the II from ETSU today? Weird
 
hey! i just interviewed at UTHSC, and loved it! don't believe what they say about Memphis being scary, it's actually really nice!

The campus has everything, and the clinical resources are awesome. They're moving into a great modern integrated curriculum and the students and faculty are really friendly.

They said we would hear back by around the Wednesday before Thanksgiving at the earliest! Luck all!

Agreed on the integrated curriculum.

And I wonder if that Wednesday before Thanksgiving applies for those that interviewed in early October. Maybe they just decided not to meet. Wouldn't surprise me.

In other news, my gpa continues to drop as I speculate on an impending acceptance. Could end up biting me in the ass. oh well.

This e-mail is sent to you to let you know that your letter will be mailed from our UTHSC campus post office Monday, November 14, [mailed to your address indicated on your interview appointment letter] along with the Medicine Admissions survey. [two separate mailings] You should receive these mailings within 5-10 business days.

So I'm currently an M1 at UTHSC, and Dr. Herron is super sweet! He's a really nice guy and I've had some really good conversations with him outside of class, so I doubt that he would be anything but nice on your interview! I'm not sure who your other interviewer is though, sorry!

PS. When I interviewed, I found someone to stay with so that I could save money! So don't forget to just ask someone that you might know. Also, don't forget that you all could stay at the Phi Chi house, and then walk to campus (it's super close and safe! but, if you really wanted, I'm sure you could even get someone in the house to walk with you)

Hey guys,

I am instate and received my secondary on 8/20 and got a email that I am complete after submitting my secondary just a few days later. I haven't heard back it. Have I been overlooked? I would really love a chance for an interview since it is my state school and finances are a big part of the decision for me.

Yeah I've been trying to dissect every aspect of the email. It was addressed to UTHSC Class of 2012, but it also says letter and not envelope/packet...and since when does a letter take 5-10 days?

Also, I wonder what it means that they sent two things? Seems like they wouldn't bother sending you a survey if they rejected you. The responses, if they even did respond, would be overwhelmingly bad.

If you look back the interview invite said UTHSC Class of 2012 as well, so that doesn't mean we are in necessarily. I think 5-10 days is the standard amount of time people give the mail even though it will most likely take like 3 days.

As far as the survey, I never really thought of that. They would get bad feedback from rejected students. All the other schools I've interviewed at gave us the survey right after the interview. BUT, I don't think they are rejecting anyone. I think they are only sending acceptances and still under consideration. I may be wrong, but I don't know that they reject post-interview until later on.

I wouldn't analyze it too much. They sent the same email to everyone. Everyone who interviewed from my school in Arkansas got the same email.

Yeah, I suspect you're right, though I'd give bad feedback even if I got a hold. I hope it comes by friday. I skipped an interview at tufts wanting to save on airfare... could have been a ******ed decision.

Um, as a future doctor you may not want to throw around the word "******ed" casually on a blog. Kind of un-doctorly....
 
Just received an acceptance! 3.522 GPA, 36-O MCAT, interviewed 10/3. Good luck everyone!
