Thanks and congrats on successfully navigating their convoluted website! Speaking of which, I tried accessing the Profile of Admissions for 2011 and 2010; but it's coming up as a bad link. With the sheer number of interview dates, I was wondering if anyone knew how many they interviewed, accepted, and matriculated...?

Not sure but I definitely know what you mean about their website. It's impossible to find anything, and when you think you have, the link is broken!

LoL, yeah, I edited my last post about 10 times before submitting, gradually making it less and less offensive. To give you an idea, I cussed at my computer regularly last year while I was prepping for this cycle and getting UT info...

Just got an e-mail from the Webmaster. (I reported the link.) They fixed the 2011 link, the one I reported; but the others still don't work. LoL

Anyway, for those of you now curious, they interviewed 514 and matriculated 164 for the 2011 entering class.

I figured. Thanks for the info! I hope you rocked your interview!

Anyone know how to send an "update letter" complete with this semester's Fall Grades, etc.? I read something on the website how to send update of "achievements" but I mostly wanted to send my grades from this semester. Should I just email them? Or Official Transcripts via Snail Mail?

Doing both snail mail and email wouldn't be a bad idea, but if you only do 1 of those things, emailing Diane Harris would be the person to email, she will make sure whatever you email her gets put in your application file.

I think they offered acceptances to ~265 though. IS at least.

still waiting to hear back from them =/

I'm from a neighboring state and have had my primary submitted since Sept. 4th. October 25th they said thanks for your application. Since then, I haven't heard or gotten a secondary. Anyone else in this situation?

From what I have heard/read we probably will not hear anything until January.

we were told at our interview that the committee would meet on dec. 2 and they'd send letters out by dec. 9. haven't received anything thus far. i interviewed on nov. 21....has anyone else who interviewed around then gotten anything? or is it looking like their just behind...

I received my acceptance letter last night! I interviewed on Nov 29, but my mailing address is in the Memphis area. Hopefully it will come soon!

Just got my acceptance letter yesterday! I interviewed the same cycle as you and the letter was postmarked Dec. 9.

Oh yay, nevermind! I got my acceptance letter in the mail today (I'm in Atlanta, so it took an extra day) 😀 SO happy. Congrats you two!

(and oh god, the grammar nazi inside of me just cringed when i realized i said "their" instead of "they're" in my last comment)

Where else did you interview?

I interviewed on the 21st as well. I got a letter last week saying a final decision has not been made. Has anyone else received this letter? Does this mean that they haven't voted yet, or maybe one of my interviewers wasn't at the meeting?

From what they said when I was there, it sounded to me like they don't send any sort of notifications unless they have talked about you. Maybe they're waiting for grades? waiting to make decision until later in cycle?

They may just be waiting, but I don't think they need any grades. They haven't asked for an update or anything, and my gpa is a 3.82 so I don't really think it is holding me back. Thanks though! I'll just keep checking the mail obsessively.

pikeville and ETSU. have two more interviews at william carey SOM and LMU-DCOM. would love to add this one on to the list too. i have two friends who have already been accepted to ut and i haven't even gotten an interview yet. 🙁

UT interviews pretty late into the season, so be patient and optimistic.

FYI to all accepted applicants: there is a dress code!!! Starting next year, med students will have to wear UT scrubs (color-coded by year), or business casual WITH a white coat, to class at all times. At this point, it is our understanding that they are no longer requiring students to adhere to that dress code when studying on campus at night as was planned, but nothing is set in stone yet (at least the students still don't know what's going on).

So when you're asking your parents for gifts this year, be thinking about a new wardrobe.

Seriously? What in the world was the impetus for that policy? Not that it's going to deter me from matriculating, but c'mon admin, really? A dress code?

need to hear from UT today after ETSU put me on hold 🙁

I don't think a dress code will be that bad. If they give us scrubs to wear, that takes the guesswork out of what to wear.

does anyone know how full the class is right now and how many acceptances have been offered?

Scrubs aren't that bad, no. But I've been wearing business attire and scrubs for the last 4 years while working in a hospital and have already had to wear them to class. (I've been taking post-bac classes the whole time.) Plus I'll be wearing scrubs for the rest of my life if I successfully match into a surgical specialty after med school. I just wanted to feel like a true student again, attending class in my comfy jeans and witty t-shirts during these next 4 years.

But whatever. All complaining aside, I'm sure if I get that acceptance letter it'd be the last thing on my mind.

An MD program is a professional program. I don't think it's much of a stretch for the administration to require us to look professional while being expected to act professional.

Just got an email saying, "TWO SEPARATE MAILINGS ARE ON THE WAY - This e-mail is sent to you to let you know that your letter will be mailed from our UTHSC campus post office..." etc. Acceptance?

I got the same email last night. I think this just means that your "update" letter is on the way. UTHSC Admissions told my interview group that they send letters to everyone whose application they reviewed the previous week to let them know their status. That can mean acceptance, rejection, or no action I think.

Since I'm going to be away from my listed address for Christmas, I'm going to call today to see if they can give me my status over the phone.

Good luck!

Actually, looks like calling won't help me after all. I think the admissions staff is on break until 1/2/2012 (Dr. Strother is according to his voicemail, and the admissions coordinator's voicemail picked up after 1 ring).

lol jealous of you guys getting letters! i haven't even gotten an interview yet

Accepted! Got my letter today that was mailed on Friday.

Accepted! It is certainly an honor, and I appreciate the offer, but I am definitely headed to ETSU! So, another spot for someone else! Good luck!

Secondary received 4:38p today and returned at 5:17p! LoL Man I am SO excited!!
Good luck everyone!

Yeah, not everyone gets a secondary immediately. Anyone have an idea of your chances if you land on the WL?

I have an interview at UT this Wednesday (1/11). I interview with Owen Phillips, MD and David Nutting, PhD. Any tips/advice from any of you who have already been interviewed? This is my first medical school interview and I'm so nervous!

Congrats on getting an interview! Though it's often easier said than done, don't be nervous. Realize what you have accomplished thus far (prerequisites, extracurriculars, MCAT, etc) and understand that you have what it takes to be a successful med student. Have in your mind the attitude that you belong at UT and that all you need is an opportunity to help your interviewer realize that. UT has a very warm and welcoming vibe, and your interview day will be a lot less stressful than you may be imagining it will be. My recommendations are to know your application materials forward and backward (activities, grades, personal essay). Be comfortable with discussing your motivations to pursue medicine and UT without having your answers memorized or appearing disingenuous. Try to make your interview as conversational as possible and let your personality shine without being unprofessional. Also, turn all your "weaknesses" into strengths and refer to them as "areas that you have been improving". And if you have some short answers to any questions, attempt to elaborate on your answers or give some examples to support your answers (but avoid being long-winded). Lastly, have some questions for your interviewer. After all, you are interviewing UT as well.

My list of recommendations could go on and on, but if you can strike a good balance between having confidence and humility, I'm sure you'll do just fine. Also, check out the Survey Results on this link (http://studentdoctor.net/schools/school/ut-com) To find questions that have been asked during interviews in the past.

Typically, UT accepted ~50-60 students off of their waitlist each year; however, the waitlist at UT usually has upwards of 200 people on it. In April, they will rank the waitlist and you can call and get an idea of your chances once you have been given a ranking. Rule of thumb for the waitlist is if you're top 50, you're in good shape, otherwise you may want to start thinking about your reapplication.

Thanks, that helps a bunch, as did the previous post regarding interview advice: From what I've heard from friends that have already interviewed, UT is unique in its reliance on ethical scenario questions. Thankfully, I already got a good deal of experience with that from an old school cardiothoracic surgeon at ETSU. Thanks again and good luck everyone!

I know exactly who you are talking about.

LoL, oh yeah? What'd you think? I thought he was a pretty cool character. I really wanted to ask him how he got into medicine, as I've heard it's a thoroughly regaling story.

On a more serious note, and if you don't mind me asking, are you a student at UTHSC? If so, and you interviewed at ETSU, would you mind sharing what brought you to UT? Feel free to PM me if you don't feel comfortable answering in the forum. Thanks and take care.
