theory debunked then lol

i have no idea why mt. sinai would send this e-mail out to some and not others, we can only assume it's indicative of something. guess we'll find out soon enough

it's all speculation but the language of the e-mail seems to suggest a longer wait for those of us who received it. aka back in the pile for re-review

i got the email too and i interviewed mid october

More debunkedness.

Seriously though, if I worked on admissions and I knew about SDN I'd definitely keep a thread on reload right after sending out e-mails, regardless of the intent behind said e-mails.

That said, if you're reading this Mt. Sinai, will you go steady with me?

What debunkedness? My theory that the email is just a subtle waitlist hasn't been contradicted...

I meant the same theory of it being sent only to early interviewees was further debunked, since we got an early interviewee without an e-mail and then a later interviewee with an e-mail.

More than just one theory out here lol

But yeah, the theory that this is Mt. Sinai's subtle waitlist e-mail is still in the running... but you'd think if it was regarding a waitlist they wouldn't feel the need to send a pre-decision e-mail. To me, the e-mail only really makes sense if it's a no decision/defer for later.

My new theory:
They mailed out the first batch of decisions today and sent these e-mails to people who interviewed earlier and are deferred for additional review- so they don't panic. In the e-mail they did say they would be sending decisions out "now" so I think it's a very real possibility... guess we'll see soon!

Are they snail-mailers or is the new theory assuming that whoever got decisions today aren't SDN'ers?

Have we ruled out the possibility that it was a systematic glitch?
They may have intended to send to all but only some people got it...

Ok I remember during my interview that Jessica (the person who sent the email) told us they will not be having an official waitlist and that everyone is being considered unless rejected. This email makes a lot of sense in that light.

I am pretty sure I remember this also. I didn't want to say anything because I can hardly remember what I ate for dinner let alone my Mount Sinai interview and I was not 100% sure.

way too much analysis guys, its probably just that they send them out in random batches just like interview invites

Good question, I just checked last year's thread and they got their emails well ahead of any mailed letter.

Rejections came first via e-mail, then waitlist/acceptance e-mails.

Last year it wasn't really a "rolling" process persay- they sent a batch out in Nov then another batch in Jan and March. And as far as I can tell, everyone received decisions in those batches... didn't see any early interviewers get deferred and get a decision months later. The only exceptions were those who interviewed near the a batch release date usually had to wait until the next batch.

However, this year they may be changing the process up? From what I can tell, last 2 years they didn't send this email at all... and this e-mail makes it sounds like Mt. Sinai sends acceptances all the time between now and march, rather than in just a few batches.

I'm basing this all on analysis of threads of yesteryear lol so take it with a grain of salt.. I'm just really neurotic cause this is my #1 school and i have too much time on my hands.

Systematic error seems probable lol  or like others have said, they are changing things up and no longer have a true waitlist.

Like I said, this email is a new thing this year and regardless it appears that everyone got some kind of decision in the past... no individual's decision was deferred to a later batch.

very interesting.. just gotta wait and see

I spoke to a student at Sinai who said they remembered getting a similar email last year and that it didn't seem to have anything to do with an acceptance vs wait list vs rejection. (This student was accepted in December). They said it is just the school's way of saying that they haven't forgotten about you and that (maybe) your application hasn't been reviewed yet. Probably just another theory though...

I just want to tell everyone that someone I know, that was complete in August last year, did not receive an interview invite until Feb and was then offered admission. This person is now in her first year at Sinai. Just relax if possible.

lol quite interesting if last year's class did get a similar e-mail.. guess we are a bit more neurotic than 2011-2012 SDNers

haha, I guess we are... But when we are talking about our top choice (at least for me), I think it is reasonable to be neurotic! 🙂

For those who have interviewed here already, what time did your day end ? I am asking because my interview for 10/30 was cancelled ad postponed to 11/07. However I have not been able to get the day off from work so I have to go to work right after and wondered when I could hope to be done.

I believe my day ended at 2:30ish, maybe 2.

Yea it ended at at 2 pm. Good luck!

How do you know if your have been completed? Do you get an email from Mt. Sinai? There's nothing on their website that tells me about my status other than my application has been submitted.

How responsive are they to in the area emails?

I wonder whether they're sending that email to folks they don't plan to email acceptances or rejections to during this week. I remember that at the end of my interview someone who worked in the admissions office explained how they're not officially waitlisting people, but she still wanted to send out some kind of communication to those not receiving a decision right away, just for the sake of continuing communication so people don't freak out.

I did not receive one of those emails. So, we shall see...

ACCEPTED!!!!

I'm doing the Mt. Sinai dance as we speak (yes, I just made it up).

Just got the e-mail! Super excited! Was sooo in love with the school

(complete mid-august, interview 10/16).

ACCEPTED TOO!!

I was similarly in love with the school and I'm so excited; Sinai's currently my top choice!

My interview was 10/03. Maybe we'll be in the same class, MedicalAuthor!

Accepted! I interviewed 10/03 as well, so I probably know you from that day. Congrats to everyone!

Just got an acceptance as well! Interviewed on 10/19.

It doesn't say how long I have to accept the offer of admission...I love the school, but I have to consider the cost of attendance seriously...has anyone been offered a scholarship?

OMG!!! I cannot believe I was accepted!!!! I am soooooo happy!!!! soooooo soooo sooo sooo happy!!! My top choice school! 🙂

I'd like to know this, too. Don't schools dish out scholarships later in the season, or no?

I would imagine that scholarship offers are likely to come with your offer of admission in letter form

Can someone please clarify something that was confusing in the email. In the email it says that you should reply if you want to reject the offer. What about if you want to accept it? Should you not reply???

I don't think you should reply if you're accepting, just withdrawing. Official letters will come in the mail.

If they're giving out merit scholarships right away, they probably will come with the letters and not with the email. Otherwise, they can also give them out later in the season.

I think so too... I just hope we are right, I do not want to lose my spot because I did not reply to the email #panic mode! LOL

There's no way you're losing your spot like that. First of all, they're not filling all of their spots in this first batch of acceptances. Second, the email says "At this point you only need to let us know if you would like to decline..." You're fine -- chill out and enjoy your ACCEPTANCE!

I guess this means the letter that some of us got was bad news....

LOL... Yep, I will chill out then and really enjoy it!!! SO HAPPY!!! I will withdraw my application from almost all other schools I had applied to! 🙂

Congrats!
Anyone interviewed on 10/24 received acceptance or wait letter?

I interviewed on 10/23 and have not heard anything yet. I remember them saying that those who interviewed on 10/22 or later would be reviewed at the next admissions committee meeting and will hear back sometime before Christmas (they didn't know exactly when).

Thanks, Zencake. Feel a lot better now.

Accepted! Interviewed on 10/16, Loved the school and am truly very excited!

PS email says the letter will arrive in 2-3 weeks but if we are planning on declining the offer, only then should we email Jessica and let her know. I guess the deadline is definitely not for a month or so.

congratulations guys! seriously, that's awesome!

but man, i'm disappointed i wasn't in the initial batch. would love to be cheering with you guys so early! i'd withrdraw all my other apps too lol all i can hope is that my acceptance was just delayed and that the e-mail wasn't indicative of a silent rejection or waitlist. still haven't lost hope!

Mount sinai is definitely changing things up in the admissions process this year.. and it has me on edge! Seems like everybody who interviewed before 10/22 but didn't get the "keep in touch" e-mail got accepted. And all quiet on the rejection front so far...

Did anyone interview before 10/22 and not get an e-mail or an acceptance yet?

I did not hear of any rejections. But honestly, if they took the time to send you the "keep in touch" email is because they are still considering you. But I feel your pain, I know this waiting process is nerve-racking... Good luck, and hope you will hear soon!
