Great. A huge incoming blizzard on the first week of decisions.

Don't know if this is an omen or what...

Haha. I have no clue at all, but I do know that I nearly froze to death on my way to campus this morning. The roads are completely covered in ice.

just talked to the admissions office... the committee met for the first time yesterday, but they haven't made any decisions yet.

Whoa--crazy! Thanks for making the call!👍

...so did they just hang out or what? 😛

LOL - what was the meeting for then? At this pace - it will take them until next year to go through 450 interviewed applicants!

Another applicant told me that the committee is now on holidays until 2nd week of January.

This wait is so stressful! We should all gather up to have a UNMC applicant holiday party or something LOL!

I am afraid that if I don't get in, I may have to retake my MCAT 🙁

450 interviewed applicants for a hundred twenty spots?????? Holy hell.

Those numbers are golden compared to every other state school ( not even mentioning a private school). 3-4K applicants for 150 spots...now that's competitive.

We should..... Who's up for Upstream Brewery in the Old Market?? lol

I wish I can live in Vermont.

Their IS stats:

80 something applied, 70 something interviewed, 60 something offered acceptance!

A friend of mine who went to a recent interview told me that UNMC received a record number of applications this year - and offered over 500 interviews total.

At the same time, I think in-staters should be fine. Unless somehow everyone suddenly decided to go medical school in NE...which could be possible.

I wonder if they interviewed more in-staters this year than previous years.

I agree, but the tuition is so outrageously expensive for OOS most wouldn't even consider it.

UNMC will pretty much interview anyone who is IS and applies. Stats are not everything as I am now a re-applicant with 32/3.7 rejected first time around due to lack of volunteer work (although I had over 100 hours).

Lack of a specific volunteer work - or just volunteer in general?

100 hours is alot - considering 2 hours/week - that is 1 whole year of volunteering right there.

I'm suprised UNMC is handing out decisions so late this year - last 3 years - people were getting acceptances by Middle of December. Now this year - they won't even meet until 2nd week of Janurary.

Maybe it is due to fewer applicants?? *fingers crossed*

I think my big mistake was grouping my volunteer work together since most of my volunteering was through several clubs and organizations on campus instead of a long standing commitment to a single organization. After speaking with Mrs. Gigi Rogers following the rejection, I was directed to spend at least a year with a single volunteering project to show a long term dedication to a single cause.

It could have been due to the weather. Omaha got bombed with snow last week, and a lot of UN faculty members took early vacations. I know they did here at UNL, and it wasn't nearly as bad weather wise. Then again, Gigi was in so I don't know how that works out. It would have been nice to obtain an acceptance right before Christmas. Talk about the ultimate Christmas present...lol.

Happy Holidays everyone 🙂

True, very true.

From the 2nd week of January until 2nd week of March = 7 weeks.

7 weeks to go through 500 applicants - that is 70 applicants per week they gotta go through!!

Now I actually feel bad for the adcoms.... so much work on top of their clinical jobs.

Just got the acceptance letter today everyone! I look forward to meeting my fellow classmates of the class of 2017! Good luck everyone!

Are you IS or OOS?

Did you receive any criminal background e-mail before your letter??

The committee must have had met and made decisions this Monday..

Everytime someone posts an acceptance - my heart sinks - less and less slots for us folks still waiting 🙁

The letter was dated December 20, 2012 and I did not receive an email before receiving the letter
I'm IS, 33S MCAT, 3.99 cGPA

also, for what its worth, I interviewed on October 26

So the committee DID meet and make decisions...

LOL talk about us being totally unreliable sources!

Last year - people got some criminal background e-mail before they receive the letter (which makes sense - as e-mail arrives instantly). I'm glad that's not the case anymore. If I haven't gotten any e-mail and my roommate calls me about a UNMC letter - I know I would be screwed!

My worst nightmire right now is just not hearing back until mid-March - while seeing everyone next to you getting accepted - by then you know you are either waitlisted or rejected.

Now THAT is what I call a very slow, torturous, and lonely death!

You're much to young to be as stressed out as you are. 🙂

By every time you mean the one time a non-EDP applicant has posted an acceptance, right? Relax a bit.

It's easy for someone who has been already been accepted to say that. 🙂 Congrats though! That's awesome that you have so many interviews.

It is just a stressful time for all of us because UNMC has been a top choice. For some of us, it could mean reapplying next year and going through the nightmare one more time.

My interview at my undergrad's medical school - U of Colorado - is much much more competitive than UNMC. At least let us be grateful that we have such a better opportunity here in Nebraska!

That is true. I was just trying to reinforce that the acceptance wave has not passed any of us by. I hope you (and I) hear good news soon!

waiting...and waiting.

any news anyone? 😀

I hope soon. My parents are having frantic attacks for me. 🙂 I officially have a 3.66/27. I hope those stats are good enough!! I talked to one of the admissions people and they said if I didn't get in, my MCAT would be something that might come-up and may have to retake. ::yikes::

I took the MCAT 3 times! I know what a nightmare it was.

Second time - you will be much more pressured! Let alone a 3rd time!

My other "state school" U of Colorado - the cut off for interview is like 3.6, 29.

We are so lucky that we have NE. Lol. There is a 55% chance we will get in if we are in-state. Let's cross our fingers!

I don't think I would have qualified for a secondary at my undergrad institutions. Seriously. Haha.
