Congrats!! Do you live far away? I'm from CA so I'm hoping all this delay is partially due to the distance snail mail has to travel..

Is it true that California applicants have a tough time getting into their state school? I hear on SDN all the time about the "curse" of being an applicant from CA.

Yes, it's very difficult. The acceptance rates for instate applicants to CA schools are like 5%, so that forces us to apply elsewhere in other states. But that of course means we don't have any instate advantage in those states. 🙁

any applicant can email gigi rogers and ask if their file has been reviewed and she will let you know if it has been reviewed regardless of whether you have received an email or letter or not

Bummer!!

I wonder how many applicants would move to states like New Mexico, Vermont, Texas..etc etc just to have a better shot at getting in!

Texas is interesting in its resident classification. Its much more strict than it is anywhere else, unlike Nebraska. Basically you have to do more than live there for one full year. My parents moved there and I worked there for a few months. However when it comes to qualifying in the TMDAS as a resident it gets very complicated. So complicated I didn't even bother with the application. The Texas "resident quota system" is great for getting Texans into their medical schools though.

The meeting they had in December only reviewed about 40-50 interviewed applicants out of like 450. About 1/10 of candidates..not 1/2.

If you live in Omaha - Today or Monday is when we should hear back from the next batch of decisions.

Plenty of people get in during Feb. So still alot of waiting for some of us folks...

It sounds like you know what's up then. I assumed that they reviewed applicants throughout the fall and then just sent out a giant batch in December.

Nothing. Exactly 60 days until March 15--supposedly the last week when we hear back. I might go into hibernation until then.

So what are y'all doing to keep yourself busy and not too stressed with this waiting? LOL

I called today and inquired about how they viewed files. And they said it was random. 🙂 so they wouldn't tell us if our file this week or next. Essentially we have to wait until March. Lol

I emailed gigi but she said she cannot tell me whether my file's been reviewed or not. They are meeting weekly now until mid-March.

thats strange, when i emailed her she told me i haven't been looked at yet, that its really early in the review process, and to hold tight.....

I called the front office- and the lady who picked up the phone not only told me my file hasn't been reviewed yet - but hinted at me when it would be reviewed...

Let's all be realistic here - people reviewed eaerly have a greater chance of getting in than people reviewed last.

This is the principle of rolling admissions - thats why people say it is IMPERATIVE to get your files reviewed EARLY. It is a psychological effect - people are more generous when there are an abundance.

Alrighty Mel, when did she hint that your file would be reviewed?

I forgot her exact wording - but something along the lines of "your file hasn't been reviewed yet - it can be reviewed anytime between now and march."

Then I asked her if I should send in a letter of interest (LoI) - she suggested I shouldn't do it yet....so that hinted at me that my file is quite a bit away from being reviewed.

Well it turns out facial symmetry isn't how they organize applicants to review - I had my roommate open my mail and I just got my acceptance!! feels good

for the interested:
In state
3.8+/35
interviewed early November

Nice stats - you sure you gonna take Nebraska over Harvard?

Melissa - it does seem like they organize applications by some measure - number attractiveness, etc. or they just go by date.

Indeed - the 3 people who have posted their acceptances so far on here all have VERY high stats - much much higher than the average accepted (both OOS + IS)!

Just so ya'll know, I received my criminal background check email today

Lonelybiscuit, I got one too. But I'm not sure if it's because of another acceptance or not. Have you received any snail mail about it? Or contacted Ms. Rogers about it?

Don't know him personally but one of my really good friends just told me he got in.

I bet nobody saw that one coming ha. Unreal stats and a Husker football starter, don't know how he does it. I can't even touch those stats and I was doing well just starting for my high school team ha.

I was really surprised as well. Especially because we didn't think he was the brightest bulb out there. But he is great. It just shows how much dedication and hard work can take you places. Great guy, might I add.

Wow - so at least 6 people from IS have superstar stats with a 3.8 + and 33 +

Is this gonna be an ultra-competitive year or what?

Any "average" applicant here? With a 30 MCAT or below, with 3.7 GPA or below???

This is making Nebraska sound like Harvard.... :S

Yea my lackluster MCAT is scaring me.

LOL. Maybe we could all move to Texas or North Dakota. Lol

North Dakota is actually hard to get accepted - much lower chance than UNMC.

Plus you need to live there for 5 years! to count as IS

My suggestion - move to New Mexico or Lousiana

Louisiana it is then! I have always had thing for New Orleans. I can deal with the hurricanes lol

know what sucks? waiting. "Sometime between now and March" just kills me.

anyone else think it's weird that there's not an actual secondary here?

35 MCAT? You are guaranteed an acceptance - even if you have no ECs - UNMC will want you to boost their stats and raise their rankings.
