Just wanted to let everyone know that interview day was not stressful at all. Everyone was nice, the students are friendly and encouraging, and the interviews were honestly like having conversations! The school is cutting-edge technologically, study spaces galore---this is definitely a top choice for me! Oh--and tuition is very reasonable if you are in-state.

IS accepted via phone call this morning!

Interviewed 9/25

Hi all,

I just submitted my secondary and received confirmation a couple of days ago. About how long did it take to hear back about interviews?

Thanks!

I interviewed on 9/11 and was told on 10/16 that I am still being evaluated....Guess I just have to be patient but that was discouraging for me.

My stats: MCAT: 30q G.P.A. :3.6, Microbiology major
lots of reasearch: 1500 hours work experience in organic chemistry, 2 publications, 100 hours of clinical volunteering..

They made it very clear when I interviewed that a lot of people in the current class initially were given the "still being evaluated" status. They said they evaluate at the end of every month and send out acceptances a couple weeks later.

I only know this cause my roommate from SC was surprised about it, but he said during his interview 50% of their class is from the still-being-evaluated status.

Is it pointless to follow up with admissions about status of our application? I submitted my secondary 3 weeks ago.

Accepted this morning via phone call. OOS (NC), 3.4c/3.35s. 12/11/10Q MCAT. AMCAS complete early August, secondary complete two weeks later. Interviewed 10/9. Not URM/disadvantaged, really loved the school. 🙂

Your MCAT score, if you don't mind me asking?

Accepted this morning via phone call!! Interviewed 10/15! IS, 3.7cGPA/3.6 sGPA!! First acceptance and soooo excited!

Apparently this month they sent out acceptances on the ninth, I guess they meet at the beginning of every month.

Anyone know the percentage for interview vs. acceptance?
According to the numbers released by them last year..
1,145 apps
300 Interviewed
53 Matriculated

Dont think most schools release the number of acceptances the give out though.

Thanks!!! Can't wait for the interview. Love Greenville so much, I would love to go here 🙂

Does anyone know how many OOS applicants there were for last year?

Roommate (he got accepted a few weeks ago, but shuns SDN like the glorious plague it is) says they got something like 1400~1600 applications this year, though the other numbers will likely stay the same. That was in September (I think) so they may have broken 2000 apps this year.

Good luck everyone 🙂 he couldn't stop talking about how pretty everything there was. I'd want to see board scores, but we won't see them until our class is finishing M1 :xf:

I would give anything to go here!

I wouldn't be surprised if they broke 2000 this year, especially since they are on the AMCAS, and they weren't last year. They said at my interview it will still be an absolute max of 55 matriculants this year, then 75 then 100 for the next two years. I'd assume they would offer a similar number of interviews as they did last year.

New building looks great, couple things were unfinished (student lounge, one major classroom, and outside area), but it was scheduled to be done by the end of this year. Overall was very impressed by the facilities and I like how close it is to the main GHS hospital (literally 100m away).

Any idea on their approach to OOS applicants? With OOS are they more MCAT/GPA focused, holistic applicant focused, or balance? I have seen in this thread that ~25% of 50 in the first class are OOS. What kind of OOS though?

Perhaps any current OOS students or applicants w/ II's can respond...

And yes I have heard from many sources outside of sdn that it is an outstanding campus.

From the roomie:

Why did you choose USC-G? USC-G vs MUSC? Do you feel like you're adequately prepared for everything, or like you're a bunch of guinea pigs?

Are you happy? What would you change?

Definitely have the same questions. Hopefully Greenvillain can shed some light

Sorry it took so long. I forgot I posted on this website.

But anyway, I'm an OOS student (with very strong ties) who was not accepted to Columbia or MUSC. However, A good number of students here were accepted to both and I'll ask them why. As for me, I chose here because it wasn't the same 100% lecture based delivery you get at traditional schools. They have a good mix here. From the beginning they told us that student input was greatly valued, and for the most part it has been. They've changed things that didn't work, expanded on things that did, and continually ask us for feedback.

As far as feeling adequately prepared, I'm pretty sure I get it, but I have nothing to compare it to. Other students who have friends at Cola, MUSC, and even MCG show them material, and they say we go more in depth than they do. It's challenging, but I would rather have it this way and do better on the boards.

As far as being a guinea pig, to an extent we have to be. Everything is new. The interprofessional relationships aren't mature yet. But every bump we hit along the way is immediately fixed. For those coming in next year, the majority of what issues there are will be amended.

The facilities are top grade. The anatomy lab is on the third floor (with windows to the outside world) and has vents at each table to pull out the formaldehyde smell. You really have to visit this place to believe it.

Personally, I'll be happier when my performance on exams goes up, but overall I'm satisfied with this school. There really isn't anything major I would change.

Let me know what else you would like to know. Our practice OSCE is today and I need to go prepare for it.

Thanks for the reply. Can you talk about how a typical day is structured? What do they mix the lecture with?

What are your interactions like with other students? Is it competitive or is everyone very helpful to each other?

Interviewed here yesterday and fell in love with this school! Should hear back by the end of this week. Early Christmas present?!

Got the 'continuing to evaluate status' email today. Very disappointed. Has anyone this application cycle received that email and been accepted later?

Thanks so much.

That's the second "evaluating app" email I got too. I interviewed their first cycle on 9/11, starting to get a bit frustrated and it is making me wonder whether my interview went poorly.

A typical day is hard to nail down...I can give you the rundown of a typical week, though.
Right now, Monday and Thursday afternoons we have anatomy/histology lab from 1-5. Monday and Wednesday mornings we go over case studies, where we divide several learning topics up and present them to our groups. Monday morning we also go over patient interview techniques, such as breaking bad news and tobacco cessation counseling. Tuesdays we practice patient interviews or clinical skills (like blood draw). Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays we have the meat and potatoes science stuff (anatomy, histology, physiology, embryology, radiology, or anything else that fits).

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are normally half days for us. Lab days go 8-5. It's kind of confusing at first, but you get used to it.

Since the class is small, everyone is pretty friendly. They always change our groups around so we can figure out who we work with best (and worst). Of course we compete, but it's not nearly as cutthroat as what I've heard about some other schools.

Yeah, the ironic thing is that I thought my MCAT score/GPA would hurt me. My interviewer told me I was qualified in that sense or I wouldn't even be there for an interview. And, I thought my interview went REALLY well and received lots of compliments from the interviewers about my ECs, personal statement and other experiences I've had. Don't know what happened...

So, you interviewed their first cycle and have only received one follow-up email? I guess they don't send an email every time the committee meets then?

Yea they said the same things about me: impressed, great stats, impressed by my ECs. I think the class is just so small that alotta activity will happen around march-may

Probably. The frustrating thing is that if they do decide to accept me later, I will lose my deposit elsewhere.

Does anyone know when the next round of acceptances / still evaluating emails will go out?

I'm in a similar situation of trying to decide between schools. MUSC vs. USC-G. Feel as if this is a classic case of old school versus new school. I actually work at GHS (Patewood Campus) and know quite a few physicians working with the school that are really swaying my decision towards Gville. It's a difficult decision considering the fact that the network that already exists of alumni from MUSC is vast and I'm wondering how this will play out when you consider residencies outside the state (or even having that option). Still a bit of a toughie.

I think the MUSC name itself carries weight a little differently as well. But both schools are great.

I received my II on 12/3; application complete early November. Interview 2/25. Any tips for the interview?

Also, I am OOS, but was only one criterion short of IS. Does USC-G consider students IS after the first year?

Just curious to those accepted: did you receive acceptance by phone call?
I haven't been accepted, but, yes, they said they call those who have been accepted.

I know this has been asked, but since there have been no replies, I'm gonna ask again... When does the next round of acceptances go out? I'm guessing sometime at the end of January? Anyone interview in January and know?

I called and they said committee meeting was sometime in February and acceptances are likely going out mid-February...I interviewed in September and am really starting to wonder if I have a chance if they keep holding me off...

Yeah, it's frustrating that they don't outright reject anyone until when? March or April after all interviews have been completed?

Ugh, February... more waiting...

Alright, so I figured I would bump up this thread...

Anyone interview recently and know exactly when the committee meeting is?
