2013-2014 APPIC (internship) interview thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I just have this feeling that South Texas is going to wait until Monday to contact us... Just just seems like it's getting late and my phone battery is almost dead from constantly checking my email!

Waiting on this one too. Though their website now says Dec 1, just to keep us guessing 🙂

I was wondering whether the invite for Baylor/Texas Children's Hospital was a personal or mass email and it mentioned anything about specific tracks... Thanks!

Yes the ambiguity is frustrating! Although it looks like for the last 2 years they have sent out invites on 11/20...

Received 11/22 - Invite to UCSF CPTP interview on December 9

MGH Behavioral medicine track interview via personalized email

Was the UCSF invite personalized or mass? One of my classmates is waiting on this one.

It was a "Dear Applicant" mass email but did mention the faculty member with whom I would like to work. Your classmate may be interested in a different mentor.

I got this invitation as well today (from UCSF CPTP), but for December 13 for the Substance Abuse track and it also mentioned the specific mentor I applied to work with.

Anyone know if the Utah State email was personalized?
I also got an interview. The email was addressed to me personally, and at the bottom was this disclaimer:

"Please note: To assure that we are in keeping with APPIC guidelines, we are sending the same email to everyone we are offering an interview. "

Thanks for the info!! (and Congrats!!)

Congratulations! Unfortunately that probably means I'll be hearing a rejection from them sometime in the future.

Has anyone heard from Northwestern Medical School? They said they were making decisions last week.

Just received an interview invitation from the New Jersey VA Health Care System. Received phone call from the DCT. Interview dates are December 10, December 13, December 17, December 20, and January 7.

Phone call from Vanderbilt University Psychological and Counseling Center - In-person interview December 6th (no other options given) - Received 11/22/2013.

Mass e-mail from Utah State University (with my name at the top, message the same for everyone), phone interview sometime between December 4th-12th - Received 11/22/2013.

Wow I was just wondering how many sites where working over the weekend to process applications and it seems like quiet a few! Congrats everyone!

Yeah, weekend notices are exciting but kind of scary. We're never safe!

Does anyone else wish that sites would send out invites/rejections all on the same day instead of them slowly trickling in? It'd be a lot easier for me emotionally, at least.

I can see how it would be helpful. I'd rather have one stressful day than have it drawn out over a whole month. But logistically, I'm not sure it would work. All APPIC sites would need to have very similar application deadlines. There would be less flexibility among sites that decide to extend their deadlines for whatever reason (e.g., Hurricane Sandy, errors or recent changes to application requirements, etc). I think trying to schedule all of those interviews at once would be more stressful than waiting for the trickle of emails/phone calls.

I am kicking myself for not applying to any programs in Nashville. Anyone else here for ABCT?

For people interested in VA internships, see the attached PDF. The Southern Oregon VA in White City, OR recently got funding approved for 3 intern positions. The application deadline is November 27th. The site is not APA accredited yet, but they are pushing to have the site visit in 2014, so APA accreditation would apply for the first class of interns. Because it is a VA internship it would be recognized by other VAs across the country even if it does not receive the site visit next year.

Yeah, thanks for the info! Unfortunately, my program does not allow people to apply to internships that are not APA accredited.

If you're interested, try making the case with your training director. This program is a unique case because it will be considered the same as other APA internships within the VA system for post docs and other hiring purposes. I think chances are excellent it will receive accreditation in the near future, otherwise they wouldn't have gotten the funding for it approved.

Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology (NICPP) – Creighton University, Invite, Personal Email, In-person interview, January 3rd - Received 11/22.

I just found this invitation in my spam folder from yesterday! I don't need more stress about possibly missing invites!

Has anyone heard from the following, who I think ought to be sending out invites anytime: Boston Consortium, Brown, Cincinnati VA, or UCSD / VA?

I applied to UCSD/VA, Cincinnati VA, and Brown, and haven't heard from any of them.

Congratulations to everyone who has received invites. I am so excited for you!

I'm wondering if anyone has heard from MGH - Adult Clinical Psychology Track or McLean Hospital?

Congrats to everyone who has gotten interviews.

I was wondering if anyone has heard from Rush Child Track?

Columbia U. Med Center/NYPres Adult Track. Personalized Email. Interview Friday, Dec 13th. (Again, a nice example of rolling invites---thought I was out of consideration since I knew people had heard from Columbia beginning Nov 8th...).

Those were only preliminary interviews (brief meetings for locals). I presume what you got was the official interview date. If you're not local, then they go straight to the regular invitation. But either way, congrats!

Hmmm...this must be a preliminary interview. I live in NYC. Email didn't specify "preliminary" but that's what it is looking at---meeting time is at 3:30 on a Friday afternoon? It's gotta be preliminary, right?

Thanks for everyone for posting and especially to futureappsy2 for all of the work in summarizing this information. Sorry if this was already posted, but I am very excited for the interview invite below!

Generic email with my name on 11/22 - Stanford/CHC, asked to rank interview dates: 1/6, 1/8, 1/13, 1/15

Also, I'm not sure that the person who posted about Nationwide's IDD track gave dates. In a mass email on 11/21 they offered 12/12, 1/9, and 1/23.

The 12/12 date is full - when I called to schedule mine, I was able to choose from 1/9 and 1/23 🙂
