I've shadowed a lot of specialties and have worked in surgery (almost every specialty), the results were interesting

Lol @ interesting.
Found them interesting as well...never considered internal medicine - endocrinology and metabolism or being compatible with a few others. 😕
Thrilled at the idea of one day having to seriously consider which path I would take.😀
 
Iev also used the specialty selector! It actually confirmed a couple of my top pics (radiology and neurology). So I was kinda thrilled! :-D

not yet. thou it says on the website that they will be packaging completed apps till the 10th of April, so i doubt that anyone will get called back before then. Hopefully we each get call backs 😀

Question for Current/Former Gems

How is the coursework presented? Will you need to purchase textbooks, or is it ebooks?
Someone mentioned in a previous thread that there are podcast available of lectures, is that format still available?

Seems like last year people got calls at the end of 2nd week of April, so maybe they'll start tomorrow or Friday?

Hello Current Applicants,

I know you all are anxiously waiting to hear back. I hope it goes well for you.

As far as the coursework goes, the graduate and medical modules are standard lecture based style. Don't worry about purchasing books right now. You will get more information at the interview.

Interesting in the sense out of the 15 (?) choices it produced all of them fell into basically two specialties 😳

The system seems to populate the results not based so much the 15 questions but the four values at the beginning of the survey. The values seem to be matched first, with the questions just being supplemental.

So what type of surgical sub-specialty are you considering?

Looks like Reagan is. I think in previous years' threads, you can find a route. Take a short cab ride to a metro, then find a train that will take you there? Or a bus? 😕

got the call about an hour ago....scheduled for May 6th
 
Reagan is definitely close. The metro is directly accessible from Reagan. From BWI, you can take the B30 bus, which picks people up at two different terminals at the airport and drives directly to Greenbelt station (green line on the metro) with no stops in between. The B30 bus is $6, with no change provided so make sure to have exact bills. Dulles has the 5A bus as well that picks up at a terminal and makes stops to Rosslyn metro station in VA and L'Enfant Plaza in DC. 5A also costs 6 bucks with exact change expected. For more comfort, take the Washington Flyer Coach Service which is $10 (5A can get seriously crowded). Hope this helps. And I'm also hoping that we all receive an interview call 🙂 In the meanwhile, I'm hanging close to my phone.

yes I second Drum's question. I submitted my application on the 29th so I'm wondering if they are scheduling interviews based on who submitted earlier...

I believe those that live farther away will be called first. I live in Maryland,so I am still keeping the hope alive and trying to be patient 🙂....Dont forget you guys if God wants you to be in this program then it will happen. It does not matter if you are the first one to be called or the last 🙂
 
I submitted the week of the deadline, I believe Tuesday (March 26th). I'm from the Midwest and received my call yesterday afternoon.

Just as a friendly reminder, they emphasized to not call and refrain from emails, as it slows down their process. 🙂

Not sure how to prepare for my interview, but I'm very excited!
