2013-2014 SUNY Downstate Application Thread

Replied too soon yesterday! Interviewed 2/18/14, yesterday was put on hold for spring review. Between that, my "Under consideration" status at Albany, and wait lists at two other schools, I get the feeling no one wants to make any definite decisions about me for some reason. Not good enough to be accepted, yet not bad enough to be rejected? So frustrating.
Darn it..... I was interviewed on the same day.. No background check email, No hold email.. I guess I am rejected.

Did you find out about the hold via email?

I interviewed 2/13 and didnt hear back as well. Do those that get rejected hear back last? Does anybody know?

Not necessarily. I interviewed 12/10 and was accepted mid February while many people who interviewed after me got waitlisted way before I heard back. I would stick to no news is good news.

That gives me hope. Thanks.

Snail Mail. It was dated March 31st. I didn't receive a background check email. I did receive one for my first med school acceptance so I'm not sure if you get one for each additional acceptance.

Just accepted! Interviewed Feb 26th.

What are your stats if you don't mind me asking (was interviewed 2/13 and still haven't heard back, getting a bit discouraged).

***What were your stats if you don't mind me asking. Not sure why autocorrect changed it to a southern accent haha.

I interviewed 1/28 and still haven't heard back.. anyone in the same boat? I'm scared the package got lost.. my mailbox is really tiny and can't fit a big package, so they will have to put it out in the mailbox area..

has anyone with a "hold" status, who interviewed January or later, heard anything since their original hold email?

Did you get a background check email?

For those of you who received the background check email for downstate's acceptance, how long after your interview and/or before your acceptance did it take to come?

I'm getting paranoid because people who interviewed after me are getting accepted and I haven't received a bg check email yet 🙁

I'm in the same boat. I think were are in between spring hold and getting accepted, so they are holding onto our applications. Maybe it's just my positive thinking. Do rejections take longer than hold notices do?

Holds are sent via email while rejections are through snail mail so yes 🙁

I know that. But I feel like people who have gotten rejections have heard back earlier. Can anyone attest to this?

My interviewer told me that they meet every Wednesday and they re-read your personal statement, recommendation letters, look at your interviewer's assessment etc. They then take a vote on if the student should be accepted. Those people on the fence, which I am guessing is us, are probably continuously put back in the pile for next week because they may be more sure of us than a spring hold but not enough to be accepted. It may be my false logic though. I doubt people who get rejected are still on this forum, but for those who are, did you receive your rejection within 4-6 weeks of interviewing, or did it take longer.

No, we will most likely not hear back until mid May where wait list movements happen. (And then we will be either hold for July consideration or accepted or alternate list, if I remember correctly. I would check out the last year's thread.)

I think the length of time it takes to hear our decision depends mostly on when our interviewers submits their evaluation. I was told during my interview day not to worry if we don't hear back within a certain time frame because it is not related to any admission decision.

Wow! If that's the case, the interviewers are really screwing us by taking so long. Spots are getting filled while we wait.

Got the hold for spring consideration email yesterday. Interviewed 2/26

this wait. is ridiculous. PLEASE ACCEPT ME DOWNSTATEEEEE

D: interviewed march 24 so it's been like 2 weeks and i spend most of my time being anxious.

Good luck guys, I know many people were accepted later, and there's usually a medium/large amount of movement on the wait list after 5/15.

I interviewed on April 2nd and I just called the office and I was told that I have to wait 10 to 12 weeks for a decision? What do I do till then? I am slowly dying

Do nothing unless you have other interviews to prepare for. Relax, applying is stressful, play some games, go outside.

I know it makes a little difference anyways, but does it matter if I send a letter of updates/intent 2 weeks, a week, or several days before May 15th?

I am also curious to know about how many of us are in hold for spring status.

Hey guys current downstate ms3, let me know if you guys have any questions about downstate that you want answered.

Hey! Can I be your buddy too? Been waiting 8 weeks here.

Well damn. Hopefully you won't have to be a wait buddy, you've waited long enough! fingers crossed you hear back soon =)

waiting partyyy! any idea how much LOI's matter post-interview? Would it be too annoying if I sent in multiple letters of love..... was actually amazed by this school during the interview!

letters of love? lol never heard that one before....may have to use that. I only sent in a thank you letter to my interviewer, so I wouldn't know.

Never hurts to try, especially this late in the game. I would personally only send 1 though lol

That really sucks. It's spring already. how long will they draw out the process? sheesh and i had been thinking at this point they're making final decisions.
