You should be fine, just don't make your school list too narrow or top-heavy.....

Someone create a video describing what an underdawg is. You are not an underdawg. You are an average applicant.

I may be a bit late to the party, but I'd like to add myself on here!

3.14cGPA/3.14sGPA, 36Q MCAT (13VR, 12BS, 11 PS).

I definitely feel like my low GPA has given me quite a difficult time thus far in the application cycle, but I'm hoping the MCAT score can count for something.

I literally just saw someone on mdapps applying this year with almost the same GPA but 27 MCAT.

They already have 5 interviews including an acceptance.

perhaps a list of pre-reqs before listing as an underdog would help

3.2 cGPA 3.1 sGPA 3.5 post-bac GPA
24 MCAT ( 7 PS 8 VR 9 BS)
URM

Kinda freaking out, still havent gotten an interview invite from anywhere: ACOM, WesternU Pomona and Lebanon, NOVA, ATSU SOMA, PNWU, WCU. I did just mail out my checks to both PCOM programs. Maybe Im just being neurotic? Cgpa 3.47 Sgpa 3.72 MCAT- PS-8 VR-6 BS-10 (24) hopefully I get some loving soon to ease my mind.

24 is the bare minimum for Western, so I think chances are against you. You might get lucky at the other campuses. I've heard of 24 getting into SOMA and PCOM-GA.

You're going to get in somewhere.

I'll bet $100 on it.

the 6 may be a bigger problem than just the 24. I got a 6 in VR while breaking 30 and I haven't received interviews at Nova or Western.

Yeah, I think this is my largest hurdle as well. Was rejected from CUSOM for it

Really? Because I've talked to a few on here who have said its best I retake some of the undergrad courses I've gotten C's in. Good to hear tho.

If I won't be verified until the end of September, what do you think my chances are with NOVA-COM?

With at least decent ECs, I think you may have a handful of interview invites.

Not applying this year but I would like to say to all of you, "Good luck!!!"

Current MS2 at AZCOM here. Just droppin in to give some underdawgs some love. I was once an underdawg. You can make it, all of you. Keep it up

If you retook a few classes it would be more of a guarantee, though it is getting late in the cycle for guarantees.

3.39 cgpa, 3.14sgpa 29 (8PS, 11VR, 10BS) no interviews yet, applied to 6 DO schools including KYCOM, LMU, and Campbell. I have a C- in physics 2. Complete at the end of August. Am I not getting interviews because of my late complete or will I be excluded because of low science/C's in physics

You've been complete for 2 weeks, relax. If has been over 2 months with no word then maybe worry a bit. Wait until November to worry, and if you are freaking out then add 3-5 more schools and finish their secondaries by the end of this week, that should up your chances bit.

Thanks for the feedback, I guess I am overreacting a bit.

I could be wrong but wouldn't DO schools want at least a C in physics?

Whelp, if I'm not going to be verified until the end of september then that makes me an underdog and you can add me to the list.

Can the OP please update my score with a retake MCAT of 27... 8 PS 9 VR 10 BS.

I remember long ago you arguing with some med student about how you did so well in Physics and Chemistry prereqs so what happened?

I would say it is probably your low sGPA score. I imagine you will eventually get some interview invites but just not this early in the cycle. Let them get to all the high stats people and then you will probably get some love.

Dude needs to add more schools, for sure. But yeah, still a lot of waiting either way.

Just got 2 acceptance calls today! 🙂

3.0sGpa, 3.1cGpa, 26 (8/9/9), URM

Super Happy!

Both are DO, still waiting to see if I get some ii from the MD schools I applied to.

Couple questions:

I didn't get the accepted phone call from LMU on Friday, so I have to assume it's a WL/rejection. I'm waiting to hear back from Nova (hopefully next week). If the worse case scenario happens of not getting into Nova as well, should I try to add some of the newer schools late in the cycle?

I have interviews scheduled for Touro-NV, Touro-CA, Western-P and Marian, but if I've failed to get into the first 3 schools I've interviewed at, it really puts a chink in my confidence going forward.

I was thinking I would complete and turn in the Touro-NY secondary and perhaps add CUCOM and ACOM in hopes of getting an interview with them late in the cycle.

Thoughts?

I assume you already interviewed, but don't think the, you just might not have been in the first batch they sent out.

Going through the previous threads, looks like everyone who didn't get a phone call was on the WL/rejected group. I was the first group to interview and I believe the committee was only reviewing the first and second interview groups for this set of decisions. Most likely only 24-25 people, so shouldn't be a large enough group where I would have gotten lost.

I think with 4 other interviews there is no point in filling out more apps. I would instead focus on working on your interview skills. Call the schools you were rejected at and ask for feedback. Do mock interviews with someone who doesnt know you very well. Do some introspection about your interviewing skills.

Just to clarify, Back 5 was only rejected at LECOM Bradenton. He/she interviewed at Nova and LMU and still haven't heard back from either. Even with the pending decision of these two interviews, and assuming he doesn't attend any of the remaining 4 interviews, Back5's chances are still very high that he/she will be accepted to at least one of the two schools (75% chance assuming they accept half of what they interview).

Thank you! My cGPA is still low and I'm re-applicant at my top choices, so I think I still barely qualify for underdog.

Yeah, that is excellent news about the retake! Congrats

Can I ask, what/how did you prepare differently, or what changed from the 23 to the 27?

The first time around I took TPRH while going to school full-time and working as a tutor part-time. I had not taken O.Chem either. Toward the end of studying, my grandfather got sick but I decided to power through. I went to take the test and found out my ID was expired and I couldn't take it. This forced me to reschedule for a month later. Kept dealing with my family issues and basically forgot about the MCAT doing only practice problems from EK Bio 1001. Obviously, I bombed.

This time around I worked part-time in a lab. I decided to use Berkeley Review for everything without a formal class. I got lazy when it came to reading when I had the TPRH class . During my last month of study, I took all the AAMC practice tests (before I took none) and continued doing problems from my TPRH book (when I finished BR). I also saw a lot of Chad Videos. Then just came test day and I suppose the stars just aligned the right way for me. I scored above my AAMC average. I had a 24.8 average AAMC for all tests but if I discount the two low scores (23) that I took at the beginning, I think I had about 25.7 (always 25 or 26 with one 29 where I got lucky in verbal). Every time I missed the next score by 1 question in a science section, so I guess this time I didn't. My average in PS was 8 (which I got), a 8-9 in VR (got 9) and 9 w/rare 10 in bio (got 10).

Important: don't ever, ever take a practice test with answers on. I would answer a question and then click on the answer. I think every time I got one wrong I got severely demoralized. This is how I got my 2 lowest practice scores and it was on the easy AAMC 3 to make it worse.

UG classes =/= MCAT. I got A's in gen bio 1 and 2, and cell/molecular bio, an A- in genetics, and B/B+ in O-chem, and only scored a 6 in BS on my first MCAT. In my case my good grades made me far too overconfident so I got destroyed.

I'm not sure if this has been posted here before but I thought I would share the information with the underdogs whom may not get accepted this cycle. I interviewed at LECOM on Friday and I was able to talk to one of the current second years who attended their postbac. He said the coursework was a lite version of the first year of medical school and that if you have a 3.0 and a 23 MCAT you are guaranteed an interview. He also said that the odds of getting accepted were pretty good at that point. Good luck everyone.

This is my back up for sure.

I'm an underdog!

3.4 cGPA, 2.9 sGPA, 31 MCAT (10 BS, 10 PS, 11 V)

Also, I'm applying really late...

Not applying late for DO. Also, if you can get your sGPA >3.0 by matriculation time, I think you can get accepted. Just note on your application what courses you're taking/retaking and make ADCOM aware of it in your personal statement or somewhere else that this will be the case. Good Luck.

sGPA: 3.67
cGPA:3.6
MCAT:25

I have pretty good ECs. Coached competitive cheerleading ages 7-10. Cheer for my university and I am treasurer for my team. 100+hours shadowing and 200+ hours at a soup kitchen. 200+ hours with clinical work also (volunteering hospital ER, pediatrics ward, ect.)

Im applying late! My application hasn't been processed yet 🙁

If you are already submitted, it's not too late....

I'm rooting for Temperature101 next cycle...I don't know about you guys!

Thanks.... I am starting to read now so I can up that VR score to a 8+...I am positive I can get 10+ in both PS and BS; therefore, 60-70% of my study time will be spent in VR.

On a side note: My friend who is an URM like me with similar GPAs (3.3cGPA and 3.1+ sGPA) and 23 (8PS/8VR/7BS) MCAT has gotten 2 ii so far while I cant even apply with 9/4/9 MCAT...

Epic movie. Long live Maximus ! I watch this movie almost once a year. There are always those few select movies you can sit down and watch again on a rainy summer night.
