2013-2014 University of North Dakota Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No idea. I know very little about it. I just didn't want to say anything and start rustling people's jimmies because I don't know the circumstances surrounding those three interviews.

INMED decisions are out. Unfortunately, there are only 7 seats and I'm towards the end on the wait list. 🙁
Aw yeah I was wait listed too.

I know 2 of the guys that got in.

We'll wait list positions for applicants Are out..... For those that know about typical movements what are the chances they get through 5 alternates for ND residents ?

Kathleen told me they've moved through 7 before.

So in a normal year they probably wouldn't get to 7 even? I'm just trying to gage whether I should plan my off year and sign up for the mcat again. I am in top 5, but just unsure as to my chances of an acceptance, and don't really want to spend money on the mcat exam again if I end up matriculating. Huge congrats to everyone who is accepted already, hard work has finally paid off for all of you!!!

On average it's between 7-12 for ND applicants. The lowest I know of in recent years is 2 or 3 and the highest is 15.

Edit - Last year 10 ND residents were accepted from the waitlist.

Haha well hopefully I'm lucky enough to see a little movement then 😉 Anyone know what the deadline if for those accepted to verify if they will be attending UNDSMHS?

Speaking as one of the 3 candidates to interview on the 25- I was a little puzzled as to why I was interviewing later than the rest of the ND applicants, but was definitely under the impression that I was interviewing for a spot on the wait list (in the top 10 on the wait list, fingers crossed).

Sending positive thoughts and patience to everyone else on the wait list, and congratulations to everyone who has been accepted!

Has anyone else that has been accepted not been sent the Certiphy e-mail yet? Should I be concerned??

Good luck to those on the waitlist.

Looking at past data chances are pretty high, but it is variable from year-to-year. North Dakota applicants have a strong history of matriculating for a variety of reasons. Most schools have to accept twice the size of their class, UNDSMHS rarely accepts more than a couple dozen more than their entire class size. Historically the number supposedly runs between 5 and 15 ND residents. This number depends entirely on how many ND residents chose to interview but withdraw, usually for another medical program.

While not guaranteed, your chance is high. You could pray that the applicants on the fence about UND get acceptances and scholarships elsewhere 😉

Technically, the first day of class in August. Those accepted to medical school must submit their deposit and can hold more than one acceptance until the AMCAS traffic rules require them to select one within the two weeks following May 15th. This allows applicants to review their financial aid packages and attend things like Second Look weekends with schools that have them. Because of this, most of the waitlist movement will generally not happen until after May 15th.

You aren't sure why you were interviewing that late? I suppose you could always ask the admissions office...

Has anyone else that has been accepted not been sent the Certiphy e-mail yet? Should I be concerned??

Check your spam, contact them if you are truly concerned. Otherwise, do not worry. I cannot imagine it would amount to more than them informing you that they never received your background check and you can deal with it then. The Certiphi emails go out at random intervals so some will receive it earlier and some later.

I am in the top 5 on the wait list. I will be accepting if the wait list reaches my spot.

Good luck everyone out there on the wait list! Now the hard part for me is being patient until I hopefully receive my acceptance email.

Someone in last year's thread posted some wait list information numbers on the last page of the forum. Not sure if they are accurate or not.

The user HardAtIt posted this (again, I can't confirm the accuracy)

Class of 2012, through #23, 15 Alternates, 7 ND
Class of 2013, through #24, 15 Alternates, 13 ND
Class of 2014, through # 27, 7 alternates, 3 ND
Class of 2015, through #17, 17 alternates, 11 ND

I can't confirm the number for sure, but I believe the Class of 2016 they went through 19 alternates, 9 of which were ND residents.

I think one of us would have to set it up.

Congrats on the acceptances you guys, I look forward to meeting everyone.

I'll add that if you have moved significantly throughout your lifetime, completing the CERTIPHI might take longer than 5-10 minutes (for example, if you have to dig up the addresses of 16 old residences). 🙂

Also guys, bring gloves. Frost bite is a bi***

I told you you needed gloves! Lol

Has anyone heard about a Facebook page yet?? I want to join! 🙂

Probably going to have to make your own if you're so inclined 😛 Even looking at students in the classes before us, I don't see groups on Facebook for years past.

Received the big packet of information today, post marked Jan 28th. Includes a list of all deadlines for intent fee, financial aid information, etc. Still feels surreal we made it in.

Congrats! Doesn't seem to have made it to me quite yet, hopefully soon!

I told you you needed gloves! Lol

Gloves get lost! I only use mine to drive. Get a jacket with pockets in the front 🙂

Or don't have crutches so that you can actually put both hands in your pockets lol. Someone actually got frost bite because we got bored and decided it would be a great idea to walk out in a blizzard with -40 wind chill haha. Geniuses!

You're friends with Kristo?

Any updates on the wait list movement this early? The wait is killing me.

Just an fyi, last year the first wait list update came out on March 13th, followed by monthly updates. I know the waiting sucks. Best of luck to those of you who are having to endure it!

Found out that I got accepted to my number one school today so I will be withdrawing my acceptance from UNDSMHS. I hope my spot can go to one of you fine people.

Congrats you two on your acceptances to your top choices! Are you both ND residents, or are you Minnesota?

congrats to everyone accepts. I was wondering what are everyones stats (GPA, MCAT, ND resident/WICHE/or INMED, and if you accepted or on the waitlist), I will greatly appreciate it.

Yes, as FrozenWilly said, I am a SD resident, former ND resident, just couldn't justify paying that out of state tuition

There's no wait list movement yet for INMED applicants, but one student didn't confirm their acceptance last week.

Lol he plans to. I'm withdrawing my wait list spot. Good luck!

Edit: INMED waitlist spot

Thanks! I'm still holding on to the slight hope they reach my number. I loved UNDSMHS, the curriculum, the cold weather and it is way closer to Minnesota (where my bf of 6 years lives) than the other school I've been accepted to. Congrats on your acceptances!

INMED Waitlist Update: Moved up one spot

Keep in mind the vast majority of wait list movement doesn't happen until after May 15th due to the AMCAS traffic rules. Don't give up hope because it is not moving quickly at this point. Best of luck to all you wonderful people on the wait list, I hope to see you in August!

I'm horrible at being patient till May 15th. Each time I get a new email message, I check it anxiously hoping it's a wait list update or even better an acceptance.

INMED: Last Tuesday, I moved another spot (2 total so far). Not sure if anyone offered 1 of the 6 seats available this year has declined their acceptance or both movements were due to students withdrawing their wait list positions, which one was.

Don't do that to yourself. No matter how many times you check your email, it won't get any faster. Not worth the added stress. Enjoy your free time before medicine consumes it. 🙂

Well looks like I will be attending UND as well! Excited to meet everyone come fall. Probably a silly question but does anyone know what we need to purchase for school, like stethoscope etc? Congrats to everyone and good luck to those of you still waiting. I know there was some serious movement on the wait list today so keep up the hope!

Congrats! Through peoples I know there was at least one other ND resident who made it off the waitlist (unless that was you...). I believe there's a donation type thing where we'll get stethoscopes from the school. As far as other things (e.g., books, etc) I'm not sure. There used to be a suggested book list on the school website, but it was taken down. Again, congrats!

After a lot of debating, I have decided not to attend UNDSMHS. I was impressed with the school and the friendliness of everyone I met there, but ultimately decided to attend elsewhere. I am bummed that I will not be meeting you all this fall.

Good luck to all of you still waiting and congratulations again to those of you who have been accepted!

Basically what I've heard echoed is don't buy anything you're not 100% sure you'll use until you talk to medical students at the school about what they found useful/actually used. A lot of students waste large sums of money on material they never even open. Not sure if that hold true here so it wouldn't hurt to ask a current medical student.
