Oh, it's absolutely understandable. We're all human. However, I know some of the folks on that list, and I'm not sure that it's information that they would have wanted to share.

Oh, I would almost guarantee that would rather that information not be shared. But, I would also almost guarantee that it was not an intentional act. At a time where everyone in this process is under deadlines and hectic days, mistakes are bound to happen. Having been on several sides of this process, it's understandable.
 
I got the rejection from the Central Arkansas VA as well. My first thought was, "Oops. I bet someone is really bummed they made that mistake." I simply deleted the email and didn't look closely at the names/emails of others.
 
I know it's a long shot but is anyone interviewing for the Dallas Independent School District and are they willing to switch dates? I have the 13th of January in the afternoon currently, I'd like to switch to the 19th any time or the 25th. I work as a school psychologist and was in a 2 hour long IEP/Evaluation meeting and when I got out of the meeting all the interview dates were taken except the 13th... I can make it work but it basically means I will miss a week and a half of work due to back to back interviews. I did also post this on the interview dates switcheroo thread.
 
1st post, been lurking 🙂 I know this is a good scenario but, at what point is it ok to start turning down interviews? I have 8 so far and 4 more sites still to hear from, and I just don't see any feasible (energy, time, money) way to do more interviews if I get any more invites. Also, it is ok to cancel an interview I already confirmed? One of my lowest ranked sites contacted me first so I accepted the invite. Now I'm not sure I want to go, but also do not want to be rude.

Can you switch to phone interviews instead? That's what I'm trying to do.
 
You mean switch the one I confirmed to a phone one? Yeah I've thought of that. I just know that will make it blatantly obvious that they are low ranked for me. But it might be my only choice!

I am in a similar position, and also having trouble deciding what to do. I hate to ask for a phone interview or cancel once I've agreed to the in-person interview. But the process is such that we have no way of knowing how our schedules will pan out. My program is telling me that TDs expect shifts in schedules because of this issue. My plan is to go back and ask certain sites for phone interviews, but I anticipate some will say no. As you said, might be our only choice.

I too am still waiting for them to notify me. I applied prior to the initial deadline. I would have thought I would've heard from them by now given their deadline.

I just looked back at my extremely neurotic spreadsheet and noticed that the ones I'm still waiting for say that they will do phone interviews if needed on their APPIC page. The interviews I already have are mostly "required" ones. So that's something good! I guess this might be something you'd want to check too?

That's great! I think the issue is...I would rather go on in-person visits for my top sites and do phone interviews with my lower ranked sites (in my mind at this point). Of course, that is not the order in which interviews were offered. If sites are genuinely OK with with phone interviews, then I will take that. I have a few sites that say things like "if unavoidable" or other language that indicates phone interviews aren't quite OK. I will go back and look though, thanks for the suggestion!
 
Has anyone heard from CHOP (Philadelphia) Child Clinical track? I saw a few other tracks listed but not this one yet.
 
For those with experience with interviews, did you memorize a list of questions to ask, or did you have notes to refer to? Thanks everyone!

I was pretty familiar with my questions. You'll be on the receiving end of a ton of info once you get to the site and you'll find yourself generating questions in your head you hadn't thought of before based on new info. I can't imagine anyone reading from a list of questions. It will probably come more organically to you than you think!
 
Someone in my program got an invite from the University of Maryland College Park CC. It came by phone. Phone interviews in early January.

I had 6 rejections, then I finally got 1 interview, another 4 rejections, another interview. I'm waiting to hear back from 3 more. Today was the second interview offer and it's the first one that I've gotten that I really really want. You will probably get more but I totally understand it's hard to wait. Today is probably the first day I haven't felt like a sad failure throughout this process. I hope that comes for you too!!! 2 interviews and 11 rejections is depressing though when you read about the people on this forum who have 8 or 9 interviews already....

I can relate- it is such a difficult feeling. What has helped me is what someone posted earlier about their self-worth and value being independent from "the APA/APPIC internship rat race." Just know that you are a great candidate because you've gotten this far and you still have interviews, which is a huge accomplishment! Keep your head up and know you have a ton of support on this forum 🙂.

Unfortunately, she has 7 rejections, not 7 interviews. I think you are bleary eyed from all the updating today! 😳 which by the way we are very thankful for!! You are totally rocking this notification list. Can we please thank sms06h over and over again people?:clap::highfive:😍

Oops!! Sorry about that!! (Foot in mouth). Maybe it's time to call it a night from the list, as I agree that I may be a bit blurry eyed. Lol!! And thank you for the gratitude! It makes me feel good to help people through this very crazy and stressful process.

I tend to get nervous in interviews, so I did bring notes with me (to the one interview I've had). I ended up not having to reference them at all, though, because by making those notes I became very familiar with the site. And like heartdignan said, questions will come up organically.

Yes, it is fine to decline a less valued site and kind as well as they may open a slot to someone who would be thrilled to have an interview. The sooner the better too, as sites want to get their schedule set just like you do.

For anyone who is waiting to hear back on McLean, they are planning on interviewing 60 candidates across both the adult and adolescent tracks over a period of 6 different interview days. My understanding is that they have a rolling list of invites once they decide on what the interview days will be. So far I know of 2 interview days scheduled, so there should be 4 more to come!

Thanks for the feedback! It's helpful to hear how others prepared for the interview process. From what I heard, most of them are not as terrible as what people originally thought it would be like. but doesn't hurt to be prepared!

Thanks! Though their notification day according to APPIC is 12/11 (tomorrow) so I guess they should come soon.

Thanks, I have a weird question. I did a mock interview with someone last week and although it went well overall, the main criticism was that I talk too much. This is funny to me because most of my life I was told I talk too little but I think I talk a lot in interviews because a) nerves and fear of dead silences and b) fear of being misunderstood so overclarifying. I've also gotten feedback that I can be a bit "circumstantial" in my speech. Any ideas of how I can work on being concise and to the point (besides just brute practice) without squashing friendliness or being my authentic self? I'm afraid that by trying to curb it, I will overcorrect and sound like a robot hamster. I do another mock next week.

Remember that everyone has different opinions. Do what makes you comfortable and what's gotten you to this point (which, from what I can tell, seems to be working with the number of interviews you've gotten!). I've always been under the assumption it's better to say more than to not say enough.

In terms of working on being more concise, the way I do it is when I feel myself trailing off, then cut right away at the next stopping point. Don't try to say more that doesn't need to be said. I work from an inverted pyramid when talking. Say the most important stuff up front and then the less important details later. It also varies from question to question.

I also wonder about this, especially with case presentations. I think my tendency is to briefly speak, assuming that the interviewer will ask follow-up questions if they want more information. However, I could see this being seen as a negative, as well...

I have like 7 or 8 left to hear from, although about 5 of those have already been posted on this site (I know this doesn't mean certain rejection but the odds aren't great of hearing positive news from those sites). I've only heard from 2 this week, though.
 
1131 Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program- Los Angeles- rejection
1172 Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan/Department of Psychology- interview; mass received 12/10; January 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th with a morning or afternoon option

I'm in the same exact boat! All 5 of the ones I have left to hear from are actually on this thread... and according to last year, all sent rejections right around this time. :/
 
So, one of my sites that I got an invite to was supposed to call me to schedule an interview. I got the notification last week and still haven't heard. One of my friends also has not heard from the site to schedule. They have on-site interview dates as early as next week, which I was hoping to do. I'm starting to feel a bit anxious, as I would like to schedule and then make the appropriate travel arrangements. Since it has been about a week, is it acceptable to follow-up via email? Or, should I continue to wait for the phone call?

I think it's appropriate. I did the same a couple of weeks ago and they apologized for being swamped but were very nice about it.
