2015-2016 University of Toledo Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When does Toledo usually begin letting people know about acceptances? I know they said 6-8 weeks at the interview but after looking at last year posts it seemed like people heard within under 4 weeks.

To those who were interviewed already: what were the interviews like? And did anyone go to the social the night before and find it beneficial? Thanks!

The interviews were super casual and really enjoyable. I got a few off the wall questions but they were mostly to get to know me. A few ethical questions peppered in but mostly conversational.

The Meet and Greet the night before was amazingly helpful. I was the only one who went and I got to talk to 3 current first years, they gave me a lot of insight into the school and it helped me feel way more confident in the interviews. If you can make it, I would definitely recommend that you go. Although the group has no bearing on admissions I felt that it really put me at ease.

Thanks! I will definitely go to the meet and greet then. Hope you get some good news in the next few weeks!

Thanks! actually if you look through the last few posts, I already heard, I was admitted 🙂 I'm sure your interview will go great! They were all so friendly.

Did anyone stay with a med student the night before the interview? Just wondering if it's a hassle and if I should just get a hotel instead.

It is a great cost saver, but given you don't know the bath/bed situation, I find it more relaxing to have a room/tv to myself (I'm also working from a computer while traveling, and need to make a lot of phone calls for work).

While it may give you a "boots on the ground" perspective of the school, I let others who need to watch costs more closely get a student host so I don't take away from others. I don't think anyone judges you either way. Whatever works for you.

Current M1. Love this place. Let me know if you guys got any questions!

Last year I was told it would be about 6 weeks but I was accepted 3 weeks after.

To anybody freaking out about getting an II, just be patient. I know many people who were accepted that interviewed in February and March.

Current M1 here at Toledo. Let me just say, that the atmosphere here is amazing. Everyone is here to help you, the M2s hold tutoring sessions for the M1s, its great. That's why I chose this school. We work together as a team to help people pass, very low competition between classmates. Also we have a system here where we are able to share study guides and stuff like that. Tons of people always post on the academic Facebook page to help everyone out. Also, the average on all the tests here are around 86-90%(we have had 3 exams so far) everyone does very very well. It takes a ton of hard work and effort, but the students here really try to help you do well. Also, they really prepare you for step 1. The passing rate on this exam for this school is well over the national average. The match list is also very impressive here. We have students matching into residencies like plastic surgery and neurosurgery... that is super impressive considering how competitive these programs are to get in to. Lastly, If you received an interview here, that means they really want you to come here. At my interview, I was told that the decision of whether you got in or not is up to the people who interviewed you(so practice your interviewing skills because it is the biggest deciding factor of your acceptance if you have already received the II) If you got the interview, you are pretty much qualified to go here. Don't stress out! be yourself, and you have a pretty good chance of getting in (especially to all the people who got early interviews) I was in the second round of interviews and I'm pretty sure my entire group of interviewing peeps got accepted! good luck 🙂 you all will do great 🙂 If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Now I have to study for my exam!

I interviewed September 21. Im OOS, do the OOS waitlist move quickly?

First off, hell yeah, our class is awesome. I couldn't imagine going to school with a cooler group of people. Also, i'm so over biochem right now... hahaha can't wait for this next week to be over!!!

With regards to the bold... I don't know about this. I was told that a vast majority of the people that do the interviews aren't on the ADCOM. That said, their say might not be as strong as you're making it out to be. Could be wrong though. Just wanted to throw what I heard on my interview day out there.

Accepted!!!sooo happy! Good luck to everyone interviewing! It's a great school!!

GO ROCKETS!!!

I was told there was no status check mechanism for this school? Which is strange, but I haven't seen anything about checking status in all the emails. Am I wrong? What are you talking about KatniP?

Dammit you were so fast!! Mid freak-out I realized I should have read through the email. I was just going through all the portals and saw Toledo had a portal so I was like, okay I'll check my status. And then I realized they said in the email you can't check your status or your previous application submission, so what had happened when I logged in was that Toledo automatically created a new application for me with all my previous data written into it already, so I was confused LOL.

@Tonytthetiger10 I was complete on 7/23. I am IS.

Anyone know how many people Toledo interviews? And then the percentage of those that get accepted?

wow! do you have ties or anything??
No ties to the school. I just applied because I know of someone who went there and enjoyed it. This is my 4th time applying to medical school, so it's been a long time coming. I've worked in a dermatology office for the past 5 years so maybe they appreciated the experience? I know my scores aren't the highest, so I had to compensate by lot of volunteer work + my experience. Persistence pays off people!
