**2016-2017 URM Medical School Application Thread**

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Miracles still happen. Was rejected by Mayo (MN) in July, and thought it was over. Got an email this morning saying the rejection was reversed and I'm invited to interview!

Damn!! That's impressive. We'll put that in the category of things that can only happen when you're O.T.I.

I absolutely love how positive this thread is! I've been MIA for a while, so congrats to everyone who is starting to hear back, and good luck to everyone still waiting! The responses will come!

So I had high hopes of pre-writing all my secondaries and submitting them within a week of receiving them, as SDN preaches. I moved to a new state and started a new job at the admin level, my first position of the sort, and that just did NOT happen. It took me about a month to finish my secondaries and I thought I was screwed.

But, that's not the case! This week, the interviews have slowly started to roll in! I applied to schools in the southeast, and so far I have IIs from Duke, Vanderbilt, and MUSC (where I think I might be in state? My situation is weird).

Also, for Vandy, I actually didn't submit until two weeks ago because I FORGOT TO HIT SUBMIT APPARENTLY. I of course had a moment of despair when I discovered that and had written them off as an option, considering almost 2 months had passed since I received the secondary. But it worked out (as far as receiving an II).

Don't let the SDN extremes scare you. There's plenty of hope out there for everyone!

*~obsessed with Archer*~~ and congrats on the Pitt II WhittyPsyche 😍 I have that interview next and I'm super excited to see Pittsburgh. At this rate some of us may end up being classmates lol

On an unrelated, slightly more neurotic note. I am having the worst II dry spell and idk what to do ugh. I'd prob sacrifice a lamb or something at this point. The icey silence is freaking me out.

It has literally become a habit to laugh just about every time you post! "..a lamb.."🤣🤣For this season, I think we need like a buffalo or something! Jk, I know that feeling. When you get to the point you realize you aren't waiting for any more IIs, you start waiting for acceptances, and it just keeps cycling....:corny:

Decided to not even complete the application due to their apparent disorganization. Not worth it for me.

I know what you mean. I filled out the primary for them, but I decided not to fill out the secondary. Funds were limited and there were other schools higher on my list. I got an email yesterday from them saying that they are just now able to have people submit secondaries and their admissions office has been unoperational for whatever due to that. Apparently they are having some network issues. I'm sure some of you got the same email as well. If everything you guys are saying is true, then I'm definitely glad that I didn't do the secondary. Who knows what kind of issues you'd run into as a medical student due to the lack of organization.

I know what you mean. I feel like I've maxed out my good fortune with 16 IIs, and I feel that nothing short of an elephant sacrifice would be enough to even get me one more. I guess I just anxiously wait till 10/17 to see what happens. It's going to be a long 2.5 weeks. Luckily I have a few interviews scheduled between now and then to keep my mind somewhat occupied.

That makes 4 of us now with Pitt interviews. It's too bad that we couldn't all schedule them together so that I can actually see some of you guys face to face🙂. I haven't attended mine yet, but I'm really excited since it's one of my top choices.

My first interview is on 10/17 so fortunately that date doesn't hold any meaning for me. I would probably have an anxiety attack!

I applied to a lot of MPH programs that do considerations in subsequent order for regular MD, and unfortunately most have a couple set dates for interviews in Jan. Ex. UCLA won't announce interviews until December. So I have a very long train to ride as far as waiting to hear about interviews.

Fortunately both of my kids, both of my parents, and my sister have birthdays in the next 3 months, so I'll be busy with that, on top of the holidays!

I don't think you have anything to worry about though. You have a pretty strong application, and the quick responses that you've gotten so far are an indication of that. Even if you don't interview at some places till the beginning of next year, I know you have multiple acceptances to choose from. It's just the waiting between now and then it's going to be the hard part.

Also went to my first interview of the season this week and of the 18 people there, 4 of us (from I could gauge from appearance) were URM. Not terrible if you ask me, I always expected to be the only one haha. Love me some smart people of color representing!

Omg 4?!???? That's earth shattering. The most I've seen so far has been 2. I walked in the room, said a general "good morning!!" and accidently Beelined towards Afropolitan

Mind sharing what lucky school that is?

I was likewise pleasantly surprised to see 4/12 of us URM at my most recent interview. I don't know why, but it really gave me a great feeling about the school!

Omg have you written your impressions of all the schools yet? I'm so ready to live vicariously lol

other than OTI anyone else on here have a MD apps?? Reading pleasant experience of other people puts a smile on my face and ease the tension from hearing a response. Especially those who applied to the east coast schools

I think I'll make one before the cycle is over but I rather not right now. I barely have anonymity on here as it is... unless there are more of us teen moms + teen marriages out here?!

I am keeping track of everything in an excel though, so it will be easy to upload.

I've gotten about 10 Howard emails today and each time I get excited because it's my 'med school applications' only email address...

Annoyed.

the system is just reaching out to people who havent submitted secondaries so they don't miss people like last year. They may be sending it more than once to make sure they don't miss anyone. the system is ****ty no was around it but at least they're trying. Last year they sent out "opps we loss yall secondaries if still interested let us know" and it was pretty late in cycle.
overload of emails now may be to prevent that. I already submitted my secondary before the glitch so haven't gotten any emails. Their just being overly cautious it seems to people who haven't done secondary or the system is doing it automatically and they have no idea. (my opinion outside looking in)

11 emails now.... I get the caution but it just seems like a glitch and not for any purpose.
