2017-2018 LECOM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm also too struggling with the fact that I might have to attend some garbage DO school. How do you all that have been accepted make it through?
Lol, since you can’t get an MD acceptance, you should be thankful a garbage DO school will accept you. Maybe if you’d done better it would not be an issue.

Lol looks like you're considering the same thing!

"I am no a non-trad former military with descent stats (3.89cGPA, 3.98sGPA, 509 MCAT). I initially planned on taking a gap year this upcoming year due to the fact that I took my MCAT late and received the score late in the cycle. However, I hated the thought of this as I am getting up there in age, not that old, but also at the point where I just want to start a career. When I got my score back, I decided to apply to one DO school for the heck of it. I was accepted to the school and decided I am going to attend as the thought of a gap year seriously bothers me. I have no intentions of wanting any crazy competitive specialty. I would say I would MAYBE consider EM, Neuro, PM&R, but most likely I feel as if I am more than content with some form of primary care. I know this will probably change during schooling/rotations, however family life and life outside of medicine is a very important factor. With all of that being said, I still get digs here and there from fellow students at school about me choosing DO and not gap year/apply MD. I am very content with the idea of being a DO. However, I would just like to hear everyones opinions on the topic and if you all believe I made a mistake."

Also to all that are viewing this thread, there's nothing wrong with having high aspirations. My interview here was terrible, yet they still accepted me.

While I agree that people should have high aspirations, I don't see the need to go on a DO thread and bash the school. If you really look down on DO schools I don't know why you even applied let alone interviewed here. Congrats on your acceptance, but I hope you withdrew your seat so it goes to someone who may actually appreciate it.

I applied because I wanted to tell people that I got accepted somewhere. Apparently a lot of people agree with me based on my post.

Sounds like you're getting into medicine to satisfy your ego. I'm sure you're a smart kid but maybe you should rethink your career. Without true passion you won't be able to make it through the rigorous coursework of med school and the long hours of residency without resenting everything you're doing. Without compassion for others you'll take all that negativity out on your patients. If you just want to make money, there are plenty of other fields for you to get into. The world doesn't need anymore self centered egotistical doctors. Maybe you should take that gap year and really think about why you want to be a doctor.

I apologize for coming off so rude before. I am passionate about what I do, it's just I would prefer an MD acceptance over a DO. Nothing against LECOM.

Titer check came back today, I just found out I have no immunity to hep B, varicella and MMR. It’s a miracle I’m still alive! I’m going to the health department tomorrow to get my shots. looks like it will be a long process for me to turn into my matriculation application. I remembered I got my booster varicella and MMR back in 2004, oh well...

Lol so I’m gonna bring this discussion item back.

I emailed the student affairs coordinator from Seton Hill about the waitlist/alternate list distinction (I was placed on the alternate list and got the continued interest email recently) and she literally said these things:

  • Alternate list is the same as a waitlist
  • It is not ranked, everyone has an equal chance of being selected and offered a seat in the next class
  • Each time a spot opens up, the list is reviewed
I didn’t ask if this is uniquely a Seton Hill thing... still bamboozled by this interchangeable waitlist/alternate list stuff

Yea I completely agree, I don't get the differentiation. I spoke to someone from the Erie campus and they told me the waiting list is shorter than the alternate list, so essentially they go through those people fast but it doesn't necessarily mean they have to go through the whole waitlist to get to the alternate list (why i'm confused they have two different lists). But more than likely the waitlist people will get looked at faster. They just group people so when someone drops out, a person with similar characteristics gets the spot maybe? Also movement doesn't start till the first week of May.

Just withdrew my II for May, hope it goes out to someone who is waiting for it and really wants it!

I'm interviewing here next week - what's the closest hotel? I was confused by the sheet they attached in the interview email.

There are 3 different teaching sites for LECOM. The Hampton Inn located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina looks to be very close to the geographic center between the 3 campuses. I recommend staying there, if you don't know what campus you are interviewing at. That should narrow your drive to a couple of days to get to any of the 3 campuses.

Is it unusual to not receive a decision yet even after 6 weeks pass the interview?

Call them up. I saw a case on SDN where someone’s decision was lost in the mail and they got their answer over the phone. Did your portal say they’ve reached a decision and you will get it within 30 days?
Nope. It still says, "Congratulations, you have been selected for an interview at LECOM at Seton Hill. You will be sent instructions by e-mail for scheduling the date on our portal."

I'm still waiting for a portal change, too, but I'm only 5.5 weeks past interview now. Definitely itching for a decision.

Received a voicemail from PNWU-COM yesterday, and now I have 2 schools to choose from. If I go to LECOM-Erie, the tuition is going to be about 20K cheaper per year when compare to PNWU. Could someone who has attended LECOM-Erie give some pros and cons about the school? Thank you very much!

While possible that a LECOM-Erie past or current student will respond to your request, you will find answers more quickly by using the search function and/or searching this equivalent thread from previous years. Or searching Google. I know because that is what I have done.

Hey has anyone heard back yet from the 3/23 interview at seton hill?
I interviewed in March too and have not heard anything. My status still says "Congratulations, you have been selected for an interview..."

How long after your interview at LECOM did you get accepted?

Atleast 2-closer to-3 weeks from now I’m thinking. MD deadline is May 15th so that always results in a lot of DO waitlist movement. Probably heavier movement in June. This feels like purgatory lol
thats why i schedule my vacation for this period. So i dont have to keep checking my email every 15 min

Hey everyone, I'm a LECOM alumni with available housing for rent!

The property is a two story unfurnished 3 bedroom 1 bath single family home located in a quiet and safe neighborhood. The spacious and recently renovated home has hardwood floors, huge kitchen with large island and eat-in dining room, washing machine and dryer set in the large basement, 2 car private driveway, ginormous backyard, and plenty of storage space throughout.

Located conveniently within a 5 minute drive to the grocery store, an asian food store (perhaps the only one in Erie), fast food, restaurants, Walgreens, shopping, banks, post office, and is within 10 minutes drive from the LECOM Campus and Wellness Center. Small pets considered, please inquire.

Rent is $1000/month. Water, garbage/sewage and lawn mowing is included.

It's a great place to live and it's nice and quiet for studying. Message me if interested!

Congratulations to those who were accepted into the incoming class and good luck to those who are waiting.

Please PM me and I'll email you a video tour of the house and other details.

Hello!

I interviewed at the end of April and I checked this morning and my portal says: The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days.

Will I not receive an email or text?

Thank you.

You lucky duck! I'm still waiting from a March interview.
Nope, you now get to wait for a paper letter in the mail to find out your admission decision.

What day specifically did you interview in April? Just wondering if I met you at the interview. I am still waiting to hear from them. Thank you for the help.

Did anyone who has been waiting more than 6 weeks post interview contact admissions? I wonder if I should.

Just to satisfy my curiosity. Why did you delete your interview date? You previously posted April 27, 2018. Was this interview date wrong? What's the actual date?

Did anyone send a letter of intent of an email expressing interest? I know that during the interview they said that an email with just a sentence will suffice but it seems so weird not sending a full on letter!

Any advice? Thanks

I sent 2 letters, never received a response, but hope it will help.

So, if you maxed out on LOR's on AACOMAS, can you still send one in this late via email along with a letter of intent?

Just checked my portal. Said decision has been made! Now just have to wait for it to come in the mail. Interviewed on 5/3
