2018-2019 APPIC Internship Interview Thread

Just got the Match News update. What is up with all these extensions? I'm hoping it's a good sign, like they have low app numbers..

Sorry about the UAB news. 🙁

I'm still in UAB limbo. As far as I can tell - neuropsychgirl1988 and CatsFan are the only neuro people who have heard from UAB that have posted about it and they received both notification of invites and rejections. I haven't received anything. Checked my spam folder and everything. I'm considering inquiring about my status maybe next week. I would just like to know for sure before I completely close the door on that one. Thoughts?
If you still haven't heard from them, I would definitely suggest contacting them tomorrow. Since it's past their notification deadline, you would be right to ask what's up.

Was this an email? I haven't gotten anything from the Match listserv?

I just got a MATCH NEWS email saying Ancora Psychiatric Hospital extended their deadline. This is the second of my sites that have done so. Does this mean I should expect notifications to come later than they said?

Also, good luck tomorrow, everyone! Have a beagle picture for self-care.

I got an email
I literally JUST got this email 4 minutes ago....weird. I wonder why some people got it sooner than others? I hope it was just a weird glitch with this email and not a pervasive issue with my email...

Thanks for the puppy pictures!! And the same to you and everyone else, may tomorrow be a good day for us all! 🙂

It's tough to guess. I was on the listserv last year, as well, and they seemed to have a lot then, too. Part of me wonders if some sites don't just set a due date earlier than they need them all in order to be able to start reviewing some of the more motivated students' apps but fully expecting to move the date back and keep accepting apps. Or if sites that wouldn't otherwise get enough apps set an early due date and then move it back, and use the matchnews email as a sort of advertisement.

2 questions:
1) any particular benefit or disadvantage to an end of the "season" interview versus an earlier date at a site that has lots of interviews on lots of dates?

2) nobody does phone call rejections, do they? That's crazy talk, right? One of my sites that historically does phone invites typically calls early this week and I'm leaning towards actually answering my phone despite substantial phone anxiety in hopes of getting a preferred interview date, but I don't even want to think about fielding a rejection on the phone. :barf:

I consistently get the list serve emails at least a couple hours later than some people in my cohort. No idea why, but I do always end up getting them. Maybe because there are so many people it takes a while to process them all?

Site: Greater Hartford Consortium
Track: N/A
Rejection via mass email on 11/20 (before 7:30 am EST?!)

If anybody is looking for a new way to obsess, you can go to the web interface of the listserv and obsessively refresh it.

Does anyone have experience/advice about how to respond to an interview invite while leaving it open whether you can attend or will need a Skype interview? To explain, my one interview offer so far is on the same day as two other sites I'm hoping to hear from. They say in the invitation that I have until December 1st to respond. I of course want to appear enthusiastic and thank them for the interview. Any advice on how to word this?

I had this same thing happen and I chose a date for the site that extended the invitation. First offered, first booked is my motto!!

(if your invite is from a less desirable site, than ask yourself if it worth risking two rejections from those other sites and having to do a Skype interview with the site that wants you)

You guysss !! I'm dying over here. Has anyone heard from Rush either way? At this point I just need to know. I'm assuming it is a rejection but the uncertainty is slowly killing me.:shrug::shrug:

The radio silence is deafening over here! Does anyone else hear the random music playing in their head? Or feel like the world is spinning? Where is a fluffy puppy when you need one!

I literally just sent a text to my friend where I said, "I'm losing mahhh mindd over here" and told her to sing it to a jazzy little tune. So, yes, I hear random music playing in my head hahahah. +pity+

Thanks!! I’m so excited! I ranked the 1/5 as my preferred, so fingers crossed that’s the one I get since the other dates overlap with sites I’m still waiting to hear from.

Is there any rule of thumb for choosing interview dates? Is it better to choose an early vs. a later date? (Or vice versa)

has anyone contacted appic coordinator / know if she is typically quick or slow about responses?
edit: answered minutes later- quick

I saw the post for the general mental health site, but wanted to note I got an invite for their PCHMI/Bmed track. Also, this is my first invite and I got it on Friday during ABCT.

just kidding she already responded -for anyone else wondering it is quick!

I've just laid out all of the possible interview date offerings of the sites I've applied to so far and, assuming I want to sleep every single night (I know, lazy), it will be impossible to do all of them. Also, I'm dying to hear back from places. So...I kind of just want to hear back from somewhere. Reject me. I don't care. I can't come, anyway.

That's a great quote.

I've heard a) to accept as many December dates as you can because most will only have January dates to offer but b) if there's a site you're nervous about/is one of your "top sites" at this point, to put it in the middle. Early interviews you may be more nervous/have less practice, and later interviews you may be run down and exhausted.

Of course, most of my sites are all piled in the first two weeks of January anyways and/or only offer one date so it's not like I have much choice.

I'm having this thought about some as well. There would be some really tight travel plans.

Also y'all - being in California for 4 days was a great way to avoid thinking about interviews. I would highly recommend it. Now I'm cold and obsessively checking my email and this site again. Sad panda.

Is anyone else waiting to still hear from the Tampa VA? I applied to their trauma track and know many people got invites and rejections last week, but I haven’t heard anything yet.

Congratulations!! Me too! (But for the Pediatric Psych Track). I was not prepared for the email on Sunday at all! Mad I didn't reply as quick as possible- hoping I can still get the date I wanted.

Congrats!! Me too! I literally did a happy dance/jump around my house when I got this email. I also didn't get my first choice date and I replied about 45 min after the email was sent I think.

I was wondering this too! It's one of the sites I applied to...not that I'm obsessively checking my e-mails, or this forums, or appic...
Same here. Based on the threads from past years, their earliest notification was on 11/30, and their rejection/invitation emails seem to both come on the same day. I haven't heard either way, so I was hoping that this notification was for the other UT site (but it's in Memphis, so that's unlikely)...
