2018-2019 APPIC Internship Interview Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That's what I noticed from last year's thread, too. However, they also posted that their interview invitations would be sent out between Dec 1-15. This, and the fact that nobody else has posted anything, suggests there is no reason to lose hope.

Ooh I hadn’t seen where they said that - thanks!

Would sell most valuable body part for one interview at this point... 21 applications....4 rejections... 17 sites a ghostin’.:bang:

Feeling similar. I got an email, heard the email alert on my computer, jumped a little bit in my chair and quickly checked my email, my heart rate briefly increased a few more bpm's seeing the word internship in the subject line of the email, then I realized it was a notification for this thread... for this post. I giggled at my mixed emotions, which must have looked and sounded weird based on the face my wife made at me across the table. Her look was a mix of caring concern and that of being creeped/scared/confused at my bizarre emotional response to an email notification. #thirsty

11 applications 2 rejections 0 invites. I feel you. However, I would like to keep all my body parts. I like using them for stuffs. ;-)

This is too funny. I love also the way that we make our loved ones fear for our sanity😵. But if I could get an interview... would totally give any nonessential organs for one:nailbiting:

Medical College of GA VA, anyone? History suggests they've already made invites, but I haven't seen anyone confirm yet on this thread...

Nothing yet I don't believe, waiting on them too. Thought it would have been last week based on the history, but I figured Thanksgiving threw everything off. Fingers crossed for this week!!

They've done this for at least the last 2 years and I've been on edge all day waiting to see if I heard from them...I'm with @BSM328 and preparing for a rejection 🙁

I'm now wondering if it was wise to know when all of the invites would be coming because I was doing the same thing (checking all day) haha.

Also got an invite to Alpert at Brown but for the pediatric specialty within their child track. Congrats to everyone getting invites, and good luck to everyone on getting more invites!

Geez, I'm gone for 24 hours and have to spend 20 minutes just catching up, forumfam!

I'm intentionally choosing to break some of the unspoken rules when it comes to attire. My plan is to dress professionally but to make sure I feel very comfortable with what I'm wearing. I may not wear a full suit. My hair will not be in a bun and it will not be straightened. Some of my tattoos might peek out. I might have some pet hair or baby drool on me. If a site disregards me because they don't like my outfit/shoes/hair/body art/monkey onesie then maybe I need to not be there because if they're super picky about physical appearance, I'm definitely not the best candidate for their position. I thank the gods every time I'm able to take a shower these days (#momlife) so perfection isn't even an option here! I do wonder how much site selection determines what is appropriate for attire. I'm not on the UCC/VA/research track I see for a lot of folks on here and there are certainly some places where I think a suit would be much more of a requirement.

And FWIW, our DCT made a comment after mock group interviews one year that after seeing all of the students in black suits, she thought everyone looked the same. She and I agreed that wearing a shell/blouse/shirt with a color to set oneself apart was a good idea just to help interviewers remember who you are. Anyone have a neon green patterned blouse with an over-the-top ruffly collar I could borrow?

Because my tattoos will peek out. How do you hide tattoo sleeves when they reach a little past your wrist.

I love to hear about so many other tattooed people! :highfive:

@tvc,

Have you booked a room yet for your Dec. 1st interview? I hope it's not too creepy that I came back to the earlier discussion and found you to ask you, but I've spent far too long trying to game the systems of Priceline and Hotwire and now I'm just feeling like I should just book something like a normal person. But, I don't want to be left out of any interviewee pre-interview run-ins at the hotel and then look like a loner with no social skills when everybody else is chatting it up like old friends during free time at the interview site.

Neurotic? Me? Of course not. I'm not sure why anyone would think such a thing...

High-five tattoo club! It's such a relief to know other people won't be super obsessive about covering tattoos. I also have two facial piercings (small barbells) that I plan to leave in. I'm planning to dress extra-profesionally to compensate, but I figure if a site negatively judges me solely because of visible tattoos or piercings I probably don't want to be there.

Tattoos ftw!

How many does everyone have? I have 5, but they’re all pretty hide-able 🙂

I have 5 too! Only two are visible (ankle and wrist). I’ve stopped caring about trying to cover them mostly because if someone cares that much there are much larger issues that would make the site a bad fit for me.

Has anyone heard a peep from Atascadero State Hospital???
