Hello everyone,

Long time lurker here, but I wanted to share that I actually got the call yesterday! She called me from a (770) area code and I actually missed the phone call since she called super early in the morning. So, I suggest you check your voicemails just in case. My placement is in San Bernardino CA, which is perfect for me since I already live 20 miles away in Riverside:). The person that I talked to only knew a little bit of information, such as where I would be working(San Bernardino County Public Health Department) and the field (Prevention). Remember to ask those questions because the person that called me only told me the city I would be working at and the salary. She let me know that all additional information would be sent out in a email next week. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions. I'm currently a GS employee, so I know a little bit about the background check and security clearance. Best of luck to everyone!

Also, they do ask you if you will accept the position after explaining everything so have your answers ready!

Congrats!!!

I’m glad they are still doing the calls. Although my case was a bit odd, I know many of us rely on information posted from previous cohorts to plan accordingly.

Again, good luck to everyone still waiting!! Keep your eyes peeled for any phone calls and emails.

Just got my placement!!! I’ve been placed in the U.S Virgin Islands~

I had a five minute conversation with my HR specialist. One thing that surprised me was that I was asked on the spot if I would accept or deny the position. Of course I accepted it, so I’m not sure if they give you a day or two to think it over.

She also told me more information about my specific host site, paperwork and webinars are supposed to be sent to my e-mail in the next few weeks.

I’m so relieved that this entire process has come to an end but I’m also beyond excited for what’s to come.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!!!

Virgin Islands?!?! That's awesome! I visited there many years ago with my family. It's a beautiful place! Lucky placement!
Do you know yet which island you'll be on?
Also, did you specifically request the VI, or did they just randomly place you there? Which program?

Congratulations to you guys! Thanks for sharing with us during this long journey! I’ve been checking my email nonstop for the past two days.:bigtears: I’m sure it feels as if a weight has been lifted from your shoulders. To those who are still waiting, be patient. I know this wait is horrible but it will all be worth it in the end. Have a great day guys!

I’ve never ventured out there, but pictures alone make me swoon! I’m definitely excited for my two year placement

I chose US territories exclusively during the selection process. I also expressed my desire to be placed in one of the territories in both my personal statement and interview.

My program area is in responsiveness and preparedness!

Awesome! Well, congratulations!

I'm still curious, though, if you don't mind me asking. Part of the application made it crystal clear that we need to be responsible for having a car to get us to and from our work site. I'm assuming they aren't expecting you to ship a car to the VI, so are you expected to buy a car when you get there? How does that work?

I'm just wondering just in case I get selected but get sent to an island somewhere too. Or really, any place that's not the lower 48.

Good questions! Housing and transportation were the first two things I started googling when I was selected. To be honest, I don’t have any concrete answers for you. I’m still in the process of researching, researching and researching! I’m slowly making my way through old forums to see if I can reach out to previous PHAP individuals that were located in the USVI for any advice. I will also reach out to my host site for any advice they are able to give.

As of now, I do not plan to ship my car. I would probably head out a few weeks early, rent a car and have a go at it. Again, this is just what I currently have planned in my head. With more research and advice, I’ll definitely plan accordingly.

I’m not too worried though because if others have been able to do it, why can’t I?

Congrats to everyone who's gotten an offer! Does anyone know if theirs a chance the rest of us will get called this upcoming week or are they pretty much done? Just want to know if I should start crying now or.. lol

The website says they will be posting people mid June through end of July! So there’s still hope for the rest of us who haven’t gotten postings yet.

As someone mentioned, they'll be contacting people till the end of July. I wasn't notified until like 8 pm on July 31st. And I believe there were people contacted in August too. The wait will make you go bonkers, but I promise it's worth it! Checking this forum constantly can be a relief but it can also be stressful. So don't forget to give yourself a break away from here. It really does help!

By that, they just mean you need to have reliable transportation to get to your host site. If you're in an urban area that has a reliable transit system, many use that. There is also a bike program you can join. I'm not part of it, but from I understand, if you ride your bike to work, they give you a small stipend for doing so. I could be wrong, but I believe one of the Hawaii PHAP (either past or current) biked/bike to work. So it just depends on your location.

For the current Puerto Rico PHAP, we both purchased our cars here. At least for PR, it would have been cost prohibitive to bring our cars. They charge a tax on the value of the car (higher value = higher tax) plus the cost of shipping. For me, that would have been several thousand. We just bought used cars once we got here. I rented a car for a few months until I was able to find something. I just bought a cheap car that had over 100,000 miles on it. I plan on selling it before I move back to the states.

Congratulation once again on this new journey. I am curious if you were placed at your first option or not. That would help so much to know. :)

For those of you who have received your placement (congrats!!!), I was wondering what your profile status says either on the web portal or on USA jobs?

I just received the call! Placement is Montgomery, AL! Area is Chronic Diseases! Still waiting for the email. I’m excited because my preference was to be in the south. I’m from Mississippi so Montgomery is only 4 hrs from home driving distance.

Keep your heads up guys, the call is coming!

My application on USA jobs still shows "Referred" and my application on the web portal still shows "Application under review." Based off my experience with my current GS job they don't change the profile status on USA jobs until you actually get the official offer letter, or when you start the on boarding process with HR. In some cases they won't change the status at all even if you been selected. So, honestly I wouldn't depend on what the profile status says. I would wait until you get a call or a letter from HR. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi everyone! I just made an account to post— I was offered a position in Nashville, TN today! I believe I picked Tennessee as one of my preferences, since I currently live in Memphis. I got the call in the evening at about 5 CST. I was so surprised!!! I asked if I could take 24 hours since I was kind of flustered, even though I know I'll be accepting. She (an HR rep) told me to call her back directly and that I would receive the offer email through USAJOBS after doing so. All she basically knew was the location, program area, and salary, when I asked her the host site she wasn't sure.

I forgot to ask if she knew the official start date yet. If anyone knows, that would be great! They said September 30 in my interview, but weren't sure at that time.

If anyone else is placed in Nashville, I'd love to chat!

Woah! That's awesome. I missed this post for some reason. I checked previous cohorts and I haven't been able to locate anyone in CT.
Have you?
I'm originally from NJ and work in NY so I'm glad CT worked out.

Hi all!
I’m new to this forum and have received an offer working with maternal and infant health in Charlottesville VA. Was anyone else placed there?
ALso, I did receive the call but not an email yet has everyone else received an email with all information?

-Current/past PHAP associates did you have any groups with people that were in the program placed in your area that you were able to connect with (might need to find a roommate)

Thanks
Arianna

LOL I'm originally from NY, and currently live in Washington DC, so I have no freaking clue why they ended up putting me in CT. But I'm not complaining.

Kind of? The lady I spoke to wasn't really sure about those details. She said there was something in my file about working with a branch of the CDC called CSTLTS (Center for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support) . . . but as far as I can tell with Google searching, CDC doesn't actually have a branch office in Hartford?

So, basically, I have no idea and will probably just have to wait for the e-mail to find out.

Congratulations to everyone who got an offer! I just got the phone call today and I will be placed in Dade City, Florida! It is near Tampa. Anyone else who is placed in Florida, please let's connect!

Congrats everyone who's gotten an offer so far!!! You guys have some really cool placement locations!
With so many offers going out today, I'm curious- Is anyone still waiting? I know it sounds like a dumb question but the fact that 15+ people here got offers already has me thinking that everyone who's picked got notified. I seriously just wish they'd send rejections out, or at least change the status in USAJOBS. Then at least I could focus on applying to other jobs :nailbiting::confused:
