Sorry if this is a really naive question, but can someone explain the PG2 columns in this PDF? Are those kids who did a 5th year and just went thru the match this year?Just got an email about the match list for this year. I don't know if there is a dedicated place for this, but I thought I'd put it here to share.

Some residencies start as second year programs where you do your first residency year in a preliminary or internal med program before you go on to derm, optho etc. at another institution. Not naive at all!Sorry if this is a really naive question, but can someone explain the PG2 columns in this PDF? Are those kids who did a 5th year and just went thru the match this year?

Why do you suppose Einstein matches so well in NYC?Bored matched MS4 from Einstein here. Free to answer any questions y'all might have.
A couple reasons. Why do you suppose Einstein matches so well in NYC?
1. Many students are from the area beforehand or fall in love with the area, so they want to stay here and end up ranking the programs here highly.
2. Einstein is pretty well known in the East Coast and in NY. We're a notch below Columbia, Cornell, and NYU but we're still quite strong. IMO in some regards, I'd actually put the caliber of some of the surgical residents maybe even higher than some of the aforementioned just because of how much volume they get here due to pretty much having the whole Bronx.
3. Many faculty members in NYC programs are from Einstein and vice versa. Program Directors know each other and talk, which contributes to interviewing the students from Einstein. Residencies also have regional bias in general, hence why most people match in the Northeast.

For a sense of the timeline, I was complete in early October, experienced radio silence, and just now received II
Just received an II too! When I enter my amcas ID into the interview portal, I receive an error message saying I do not have access yet. I was wondering if there is any consensus on how to fix this problem besides calling the admissions office?

You'll find gunners wherever you go, but my experience has been that the attitudes towards them at Einstein are mostly of the "ew gross" varietyWhat’s the vibe at Einstein? Is there a lot of gunners or are people mostly chill? Lol
Housing is right across the street from the main campus and next to two of the main hospitals you rotate at: Weiler and Jacobi. Its located in Morris Park which is one of the better areas in the Bronx. Housing here is very cheap since its subsidized and guaranteed. Like ~500-600 for your own room in an apt which you will share with either 1 or 2 other people depending on if its 2 or 3 bedrooms and~700 for studio. Studios are on a waiting list however so you won't really get it until late MS3 or so, though I believe if you are a couple or have a family you get priority. Can you write a little bit about the facilities at Einstein (housing, hospitals, study areas, library, etc)? Hard to find pictures/videos online.
Downstairs from housing is the Falk Center, which you get access to as part of tuition. There is a pool, basketball courts, raquetball and squash courts, 5 or so power racks and quite a few benches and free weights. There are also basketball courts and tennis courts. I thought the gym was solid and pre-COVID there was a decent number of Intramural sport activities.
You rotate at multiple sites. The 3 most common sites rotated at are probably Montefiore Moses campus, Montefiore Weiler campus, and Jacobi which is part of NYC Health. There are other Montefiore affilitates and NYC health affiliates you may end up rotating at as well, You have free shuttles to Moses and free taxi services provided from the school to affilate sites for clerkships which is nice so you don't need a car. The Montefiore sites tend to be quite a bit nicer than the NYC Health sites which are a bit older.
The Forcheimer building on campus next to housing has a library and lots of study spots in the education center. There's also lots of study spots in the Belfer building next door where you have PBL, histology lab, and case based learning. In general there's enough space, though it can get a bit cramped during dedicated time for Step 1. I personally did not have any issues but I also studied quite a bit in my apt. Not sure how this will change with Step 1 going pass fail.
This post is getting kind of long so let me know what specific questions I can answer.
First 2 years is P/F which I think breeds a good sense of community. People shared a lot of their study guides, anki decks etc which were clutch. For MS3 and MS4, upperclassmen are good resources and give tips and tricks, and the core friends you make in first 2 years will also help you out when you split off into different clerkship pathways. I wouldn't say that there is gunning, but there are certainly people who will work harder than you which can make things difficult. For example, someone going into surgery might want to pre-round on a lot of pts (optional), which in turn can make the guy going psych who has no interest in being in an OR or surgery look bad for not wanting to put in the same amount of effort. So can it get competitive later, sure, but I wouldn't really call it gunning. I think admissions does a good job picking out chill people want to pull each other up. Of the many, many people I interacted with, I think I only had one negative interaction with a fellow student..but I mean there's gonna be the one random weirdo who slips through no matter where you go.What’s the vibe at Einstein? Is there a lot of gunners or are people mostly chill? Lol

if you do have a car, is it easy to park in or near the student housing area?
also, how is clerkship grading? i would imagine it is stressful no matter where you are, but are the physicians pretty fair with their grading in your experience? is it honors/pass/fail?
Is Einstein receptive to questions regarding where you are on the waitlist. Would they tell us if we’re in the top quarter, top half, etc

Hi!two questions.

We have massive underground parking that is connected to housing (you can park and walk into your apartment without being outside in the Winter which is great). It is about $100/month. Otherwise, there is always roadside spaces open next to housing and in front of the Price Building (big glass one).
I will defer your second question to the M3/M4s on this thread.
Someone answered the first.two questions.

MS4 grading doesn’t really matter. Tbh MS3 is luck to the draw. You might get chill attendings and residents who understand these things and you honor, and sometimes you don’t. However pretty much all the attendings and residents love to teach and enjoy incorporating students into the rotation, so even if you don’t honor, it’s still a very positive experience. If you’re an average student clinically and on shelves, youre pretty much guaranteed atleast a High Pass. I think only like <5% pass in the rare scenario you bombed a shelf. For comparison one of my buddies is at a T20 and like 50% of his class get straight passes. I personally got a mix of HP and H (did not get AOA) without working too hard and matched into a very competitive specialty so I say it’s overall pretty good. I think people stress themselves out over 3rd year way more than they should which in turn further perpetuates them not doing so hot.

How is AOA determined at Einstein? Is it just based on grades, or is there some sort of voting involved too? Thanks for the info, btw!Someone answered the first.

I think its something like all honors or near all honors on clerkships, good step 1 Score (don't know cut off and will obviously change with it going P/F), no failures on any exams in preclinical or shelves. No voting for AOA but there is voting for Gold Humanism Honors Society (GHHS).How is AOA determined at Einstein? Is it just based on grades, or is there some sort of voting involved too? if you had to guess, what percent of your class is AOA? idk what I'm talking about at all but based on what I read it seems incredibly hard to get all honors, even near all honorsI think its something like all honors or near all honors on clerkships, good step 1 Score (don't know cut off and will obviously change with it going P/F), no failures on any exams in preclinical or shelves. I just wanted some quick advice regarding letters of intent, what exactly do you guys write in your letters of intent to get the interest of a school?
I have not yet been accepted at any schools and Einstein is my dream school. I interviewed on 2/23 and have yet to hear back and was considering sending a letter of intent to make clear my intentions. Can anyone give me feed back on how to compose a letter of intent and also on if its a good time to send it after interviews or wait for an acceptance/waitlist. Thanks in advance.

I would just search up how to write a letter of intent there is a lot of good content online...that's what I did. Just show them why you would be a good match there and why you feel so strongly about attending Einstein through your experiences.I just wanted some quick advice regarding letters of intent, what exactly do you guys write in your letters of intent to get the interest of a school?

It really depends on timing, since you feel so strongly I would recommend that you send it now. They seem to want to know how strongly their applicants feel about attending Einstein so I don't think it could hurt to send it before they make a decision...it can only add to your application.

Send after waitlist. If you are that anxious, send an update letter/letter of interest but intent are generally not read until after waitlist movement starts.I just wanted some quick advice regarding letters of intent, what exactly do you guys write in your letters of intent to get the interest of a school?

M1 here! I honestly haven't met a gunner yet - I'm sure they're here, but it's been a really collaborative environment so far. People share books, notes, Anki decks, etc., and everyone has been really receptive to helping out. There are people who try harder than they probably need to in a P/F unranked system, but that's more a matter of opinion than anything. Haven't really seen anyone flaunting their grades or work ethic, or putting others down. What’s the vibe at Einstein? Is there a lot of gunners or are people mostly chill? Lol
i have two questions as well:Bored matched MS4 from Einstein here. Free to answer any questions y'all might have.
1 - What does the housing situation look like over the years? E.g. do people start on campus and then eventually move off, or do they stay in the campus apartments all four years? Also, the housing website was a little confusing for me. They say at least 2 people have to live in a 1 bedroom, and 3 people in a 2 bedroom. Does this mean there's no living room lol?? or am i misunderstanding here
2 - How often do students hang out/study/explore Manhattan? I'm well aware that the Bronx is not in Manhattan (I'm from Queens lol), but just curious about whether students actually like to chill in the city (is there even time for this in med school ??)
thanks for your time and congrats on your match !
1 - Most people live on campus the whole time. In general most people will either stay in the same apt or transition into a studio later during the years if they want more privacy when they get off the studio waitlist.i have two questions as well:

You get your own bedroom but you are correct in that there is no living room.
2 - Depends on how busy you are. You definitely have time to chill in the city once or twice on weekends and even more in the beginning of blocks when you don't need to study as hard for exams. Even in MS3 people were regularly going out and dating atleast once on weekends. You just have to prioritize and be productive with your time.

Suppose it depends on how you classify living room? In the converted (shared) apartments, one of the bedrooms is what was originally the living room. Our housing does have living rooms for the most part, no?
The 2 -> 3 bedroom conversions still have a living room space, but the 1 -> 2 bedroom conversions mostly have a small area in the entry that I've seen some people use as a small living room/gathering area with a small couch and some chairs, but in my experience the dining area usually serves as the gathering space. Also entirely possible I got a bad sample and only know people who got stuck with the least favorable configuration
Is there a place in the building to safely store bikes? I have a fairly expensive road bike and don't want to leave it outside constantly.Suppose it depends on how you classify living room? In the converted (shared) apartments, one of the bedrooms is what was originally the living room.

How are people feeling who received the "Rolling Admissions" email? I am still struggling to understand what this means. It appears no acceptances have been given out since the initial A wave and therefore no acceptances for those who interviewed in 2021. When should we expect to hear anything from Einstein?
