Did anyone who applied to the neuropsychology tracks at UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience receive any confirmation from the site that their application was received through CAS? Also has anyone heard from UCLA regarding interviews?

I didn't apply to that site, but of the 12 places I applied to using APPA CAS, only one confirmed my application. Good luck!

I've sent out 10 applications and haven't heard back from anyone yet (aside from confirmation that my materials were received). The waiting game is starting to wear on me  I have a feeling next week is going to be busy though, especially for neuro because if all these sites are planning on INS interviews then there is only so much time left to schedule. I forgot how hard it is to feel settled and at peace when these things are lingering in the background.

I was notified about a deadline extension on Monday, so I think they must still be reviewing.

Has anyone heard anything from Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU)? Their application deadline was December 13th. They confirmed my materials were in on 12/16, but I haven't gotten any word from them.

Has anyone heard anything from Bedford VA about the neuropsych track?

I interviewed there back in early December and I think they just wrapped up interviews at least from the dates that were offered to me

Has anyone heard from Judge Baker Children's Center? A colleague and I submitted by 12/16 and haven't heard anything.

I've seen people post about Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Neuropsychology and Perinatal/Early Childhood postdocs, but has anyone heard anything about the GI or Solid Organ Transplant postdocs?

Has anyone heard from the Houston VA (MEDVAMC) regarding Health/Primary Care or Trauma tracks? Colleague and I both applied, different tracks, but have not heard.

It looks like someone already received notification re: SMI track (congratulations!).

A friend of mine heard back from the Primary Care track with an invite, but I don't know anything about the Trauma track.

What have interviews been like for people? Was it similar to internship interviews? Anything that was surprising?

Can't say I've had many surprises. I've had a few (all skype) and the main pattern is: they introduce themselves and discuss the site and postdoc; ask me about myself, dissertation, and current internship; ask me what I'm hoping to do/achieve in a postdoc year (e.g., assessment or intervention experience?); ask me about my ultimate career goals, including type of site, population of interest, and clinical/research/ teaching balance. I think this final question is most important as many sites are looking to bring on postdocs that will stay on in their early career as psychologists/faculty.

My postdoc interviews were identical to internship interviews. Similar questions/format, and for some, had to come up with a plan based on a case vignette on the spot, as had been part of some internship interviews. I didn’t get any “zinger” weird questions on postdoc though, which was nice.

Is it ever possible to negotiate for more money? I assume that it is essentially impossible at VAs and AMCs, but I was wondering whether other settings like private practices are more open to negotiation? I interviewed at a site that I really loved but doesn’t offer health insurance. That is a deal breaker for me unless I can negotiate for more money if they make an offer. Has this ever been done?

More possible at PP sites. Hospital sites it's likely improbable to impossible. These salaries are already budgeted for and approved by hospital admin, we have zero wriggle room in intern or postdoc salaries.

what is the etiquette surrounding backing out of an accepted interview invite due to reasons outside one's control? how much blackballing will ensue?

I think an email or phone call explaining that '"due to unforeseen circumstances..." you will have to cancel the interview is fine. Especially, if it something that is out of your control or an emergency. Things happen and people are generally understanding.

The sooner the better though, that way the site can reach out to others that they may have as back-ups.

So I just had a place email me to cancel my interview because they apparently picked someone else already! Except a) I'm flying across the country and they know this, b) I switched around another interview to accommodate them, and c) had I not switched my schedule around, I could've fit in another interview at a really prestigious place (that I now have to FLY BACK ACROSS THE COUNTRY FOR).

I'm so annoyed and I don't even know whether it's worth it to respond to them.
