What do we think the chances are of more waitlist movement? Trying to come to terms with the fact it’s probably wrapping up.
If I understand correctly, the waitlist is typically around 80 people. I believe they typically offer 10 at a time, per week on Friday, until they fill. It is my belief that they offer 10 at a time on a weekly basis starting on or around May 1, and it is not unusual for them to get to mid-late June before the class is finalized. This is mostly extrapolation/hearsay but I have heard these numbers enough to believe them to have some basis of truth. The number I am most sure of is "80 on the waitlist". Again I have no factual inside knowledge beyond the "80 on the waitlist". It is my understanding that historically including in recent years, they have admitted about 60 of the 80. Extrapolating that, 50 of the offers should have gone out by today. If the numbers I believe are in fact true, the 80 offers should be (ish) issued by June 20--assuming that what has occurred in the past continues this year. As of today as I type this there are 30 more offers (again assuming a degree of truth to all of this) to be issued. Hang in there! There are many students still weighing scholarship offers at other schools that may drop out between now and then. In addition, Tennessee is one of the only schools that offers a guaranteed spot next year for students wishing a deferment. Some of the people have already finalized gap year plans and will decide to keep those plans, and that will open a slot this year (but subtract one next year).

Keep the faith. It is most certainly not over. Although stressful today, in 4 years when people who are accepted in the next few weeks are walking across the graduation stage--no one is going to remember the time it takes to get off of the wait list.

Hi guys, congrats to all who are attending!! I'm a current student here, I just finished M1 (so I guess I'm technically an M2 now, wild). If anyone has any questions about the school, Memphis, medical school itself, etc. Don't hesitate to ask here or DM me!!

Do they really have only 80 people on the waitlist? I saw on the FAQ that they said they accepted around 60 people every waitlist. I am currently on the waitlist, and this is my only MD interview/waitlist, so I am hoping I will get in.

I am a little confused, because you said 50 of the offers should have been given out already, but then you state that there will be 30 more offers? Would that not mean all 80 on the waitlist would get an offer?

i think they meant 80 will get offers from the waitlist, not that the waitlist itself was only 80 people

For those coming to Memphis, congratulations! I am a graduating resident renting out my house in East Memphis next year and would love to rent to a UT student. DM me for more info!

Any word lately? Has anyone dared to reach out to the admissions office to see if there is still a chance to come off the WL?

I emailed them and they said “
We have made the majority of our offers to candidates on the alternate list; however, our list will remain active throughout the summer until orientation begins in August.

While we do have most of the class finalized, the alternate list will remain active in situations of last-minute withdrawals or deferrals. ”
