Help! I have 3 free months left of my 4th year and I want to know which rotations would be best to prepare me for EM!!

Which 3 would you choose, and why?

Pulmonary consult
Cardiac consult
ID consult
Orthopedics (clinic or ward)
Ophtho
Anesthesia

Thanks for the advice!

I really don't know because i'm an undergrad.
I would pick these three though
Pulmonary consult
Cardiac consult
Anesthesia
It seems that these three would be the most helpful in an emergency stauation. Heart and Lungs both vital organs to sustain life correct. And anesthesia because most cases to the EM are due to some kind of pain and pain relief would be helpful. That's just me though an undergrad.

Your last 3 months of 4th year? I'd do whatever rotations had the easiest hours!! Seriously though, I'd do optho...just because I think I'd learn a lot, and it would be pretty laid back and fun...I don't know spank about the eye, other than we see with it...i think.

You will learn what you need to learn in residency. Plenty of RDs have told me that you should only do 2 months of EM during fourth year, since you are going to have the rest of your life to do EM.
So do what is fun, or what you feel will let you experience things that you won't ever get to do again. If you really feel that you will need to have a leg up, then learning how to intubate really well, learning about the eye (and how to do a good fundus exam), and the third is up to you. Consult services are pretty laid back though, so that will be fun.

I didn't mean last three as in february, march, april. I meant I have three holes in my schedule to fill (something like December, january, april)

December and Jan are interview months. You'll need to interview a lot. Pick one month and don't do anything if you can. Or do something that allows you to miss a lot.
