I have a quick question. I applied roughly 10 hours after the app. came out and I was just reading a thread that talked about explaining any academic mishaps that may have happened, such as, academic probation, violation of honor code, etc. Well, I was put on academic probation for one semester (freshman year) and forgot to add this in my app. What do I do???? Am I totally screwed? Would there be any way that I could write a formal letter to every dental school explaining to them that I overlooked it on the app. and explain the terms of my probation and what I learned from it, or do I just forget about it? Thanks.

no you don't need to explain Academic Probations. Only dsciplinary or NON-ACADMIC stops to your education.

can anyone else verify what Ackbar said.
Thanks.

I think your mistaken, it does say in the fine print next to the box that opportunities will be provided to explain academic mishaps that result in academic probations.

To the OP, (you must have read my Post).

On the application, it notes (under the box), that this is an ideal oportunity to strenghten your application...

Instead of threading a new post, what reasons (if you don't mind sharing), do you or any other person have for the academic probation, drinking too much? relationship problem? family problem? mind sharing?

thanks

YOU BE THE JUDGE:

(directly from aadsas)

"Have you ever been dismissed, expelled, found to have violated an honor code, disqualified, suspended, put on probation, or otherwise been subject to disciplinary action at any college or university in connection with your academic performance or misconduct?"

ALSO, included under the box available for typing your response, is the following in fine print:

"Answering “yes” will not automatically disqualify you for admission to a dental program. Many individuals learn from the past and emerge stronger as a result. Full disclosure enables programs to evaluate more effectively this information within the context of your credentials. Failure to provide accurate information in response to this question may jeopardize your application to a dental school."

Hope this clears up any confusion

Overall, I hope those of you with academic probation(s) use this wisely, this could be the deciding factor for you getting in, that's if you think of something logical to say.

I dunno what this ****** DICK said, but I applied and have gotten in already and I never explained my AP.

Congratulations on your acceptance, but I didn't say anything bud, it's all from aadsas.

I'm glad you applied and got in without mentioning your AP, maybe that's something that may cheer up our OP 🙂

Take Care

Ok, but both of you have failed to answer my question. What should I do? I would love to explain my situation that semester but I don't know how I go about doing that. If someone could please give some insightful opinions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Don't bother sending in any additional information, and then if you get asked about it at your interviews (and there's a good chance you might be asked on your bad semester/quarter), then you can address it.

I'm going to give you my best advice, because I know what kind of effect a bad semester which pulls down grades can have because of certain mishaps.

You forgot to include your mishap in your application. I think it is important to include this, having said this, it's not essential (based on post by ackbar).

Firsty, I would call AADSAS, and find out if your application has been sent out, if not, ask if you can make any changes. It's worth a try.

If the above doesn't work, you may want to contact an advisor, or maybe a few dental schools that you didn't apply to! Just to get their opinion in this matter. That way, you get an opinion from some of the schools, without it effecting you application in any way, since you won't be applying to these schoos! Basically you want to find out whether it is desirable or not to send letter to dental schools explaining your poor semester(s).

If you think it is absoultley critical that you explain your mishaps, then go ahead, follow my advice, but as ackbar mentioned, he got in without explaining his (it's not essential for acceptance), and you may have a chance to talk about it during interviews.

Let me Know what happnes (and sorry for diverting from your OP)

You will be sent a correction form from AADSAS, and you can add it to your correction form. That's technically the right thing to do.

I believe AADSAS has changed the way in which they conduct the correction form. They only allow you to update or change certain things about your app. and this part of the app. is NOT included. Any other suggestions?

cantstandya, listen, don't worry about it. if they ask at your interview, then tell them. if not, oh well.
