acceptances from Northwestern?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
congrats, i cant wait to hear from them, my status changed tues also, so i may here from them this weekend... the anticipation!

Congratulations everyone!

Haha, I like the Seinfeld reference!

I doubt I'll hear anything today being as I am in Southern California. It's funny you guys already got the mail. It is only like 10:30 in the morning here. I have a feeling I won't get in though. However, I'll let everyone know what I get.

I'm in! I had a Tuesday status change and went through all that blue screen drama.

I'm in Nashville, Tennessee btw. :luck:

Congratulations! I'm waiting with bated breath in San Francisco. For a second I was all excited b/c you don't live in IL -- then I looked on a map, and it seems Nashville is significantly closer to Chicago than SF. Glad geography wasn't on the MCAT. I'll let you all know today, too. 🙂

It seems obvious now that the people who got the early status change are accepted. My guess is that those of us who got the late change are waitlisted, and the really late change are rejected.

Accepted with status change tues! I am in St. Louis, MO. Looking forward to second look!

MrsLady--haha, that made me laugh! I do that sometimes, but I lived in TN once (for a VERY short period of time) so I kinda know where it is.

Illini2Med, don't fret! Anything can happen yet...I assume you are in the Illinois area and maybe that is why you are saying this?

No, I am assuming that because everyone who has gotten an acceptance letter got a Tuesday status change. I don't live in Illinois right now, so I won't get my letter for a couple days. I interviewed in early October, and was already passed up so I am not expecting anything anyways, but I was still holding onto a thread of hope.

Yeah, but your sample size is 4, and since no one has posted with rejections, we don't know if there are an equal number of applicants who got rejected with a Tuesday change (and won't know anytime soon, since rejections were sent with the slower bulk mail rate). Maybe the earlier changes just got mailed first. Give it a few days and then I'll be right there with you to be cynical 😉

And good luck! 🙂

Even with a sample size of only 4, the chances of none of them getting a waitlist if it was truly random is incredibly small (approximately 6%.) I'm not completely convinced, but I'm not holding my breath either. The only thing that I find comforting right now is that Northwestern usually accepts people who also get into top 10 schools, so there will probably be some waitlist movement.

What?

It's not like you have a random sample of 4 people. You have 4 people that got accepted. Waitlists and rejections haven't arrived anywhere yet, due to being sent at a slower rate. I was just suggesting that the reason those with a Tues change got their letters first is simply because their apps were processed first. We have no idea whether being processed first correlates to the decision outcome.

Anyway. Time will tell us soon enough.

You are right. I didn't think about the first class/bulk mail issue. My point was that Northwestern accepts 50%, and that if they mailed out 50% acceptances and 50% waitlist/rejections, then there is only a 6.25% chance that none of the 4 people will get a rejection.

Woohoo!! I'm in, got my letter today. Status change on Tuesday also got the blue screen. I interviewed in the beginning of February, my letter was dated Feb 27th, but postmarked on the 28th. BTW, I'm in Southern California.

Good luck to everyone waiting to hear.:luck:

got my letter today in kansas city - "list of alternate candidates." wednesday status page change, no blue screen drama. make of that what you will. 😳

It seems that for OOS applicants who get mail from NU today it's somewhat good news (accept/waitlist)?

hey questionable -

do you mind providing any more info about what the waitlist letter said. number of applicants on it, movement, ranked/unranked. let us know if you don't mind 😀

anyone with wed status change who got accepted?

it's painful mdurfa, but sure. unfortunately there's not much to say as the letter didn't give any specifics. it just said that alternate candidates will be closed out of the online page soon so we need to communicate by phone or email. there were also two sheets enclosed, one of which we have to mail back within 10 days to maintain our spot on the list.

that being said, i wouldn't be too surprised if i was on the "no chance in hell" waitlist and that's why they didn't give me any of the # info. someone else might know.

anyway, good luck to everyone else. :luck:

As per movement of the waitlist...it seems there is a significant one. Delores Brown said all one needed to do was express some interest and you would have a good chance. The list is not ranked in any way. Apparently lots of people accepted decline to go to higher ranked schools so this leaves a lot of room.

Also last years cycle from MDapps proves this fact. Most people waitlisted either withdrew or got accepted off it (don't know if they sent letters but...)

So don't give up hope!

I'm a Wed status change but I'm still at work so don't know whats in the mail...but as you can see I've gone into "heartbreak management" mode

So unfortunate. I am a Wednesdat status page change. At this point, I am just praying for a waitlist. Anyway, congrats to those accepted and goodluck to all who are waiting:luck:

Aaaah!! Why am I at work?!

I feel your pain.... I'm at work right now, too, and am dying to know if there's a little envelope from NU waiting in my mailbox at home...

My roommate just called me at work -- rejection letter from NU. I'm okay with it, but for all of you looking for a pattern with the status changes, I had one on Tuesday (no blue screen). Hope this gives some of you hope that the early/late status changes don't mean anything.

:luck: Good luck to everyone!!!:luck:

sorry to hear that, but i see you have at least one acceptance, so you are gonna be an MD - smile!

and this should put an end to the speculation thats going on about stati changes, but it likely wont, sigh

oh, btw, i was tue status change and live in central cali but received nothing 🙁

Hope I didn't come across as unhappy... I am thrilled to be going to med school, period! I loved Loyola and am truly excited to be going there. 😀

I live in Chicago, so give it some time!

Wow, I was very excited to receive a letter from NU today. And more surprised that I actually got in!!! I love how it says it is dependent on the Criminal History check. hehe.

Oh yeah, I interviewed in November, had a status change Tues (although likely doesn't matter) and had the blue screen of death the other night.
And I live in Southern California.

Good luck to everyone still waiting. I know how it goes.

When was your letter postmarked?

congrats on everyone who got in!!!!

if anyone has any questions about the school, feel free to shoot me a PM.

also...if i interviewed you, let me know if ya got in!!!!

the school will tell me eventually...but they will take awhile.

are you a white guy with short blond hair?
did you interview with the middle aged doctor who asked me about point lobos and then about fire hydrants?
i think i remember my student interviewer in the room being from ucla
(third person was a woman with dark curly hair)
(i was there dec 5th)

didnt hear anything yet, but if i dont get in i am holding you personally responsible 😉

oh yeah...i chose to reject your ass flat out...

I KID! I KID!

i have interviewed with the guy who asks the fire hydrant question. fortunately, or unfortunately i did not interview you. i interviewed people in early february. plus i am not a white guy with blonde hair. i am a filipino guy with black hair. 😉

regardless...i wish you the best!

as long as i have the collective attention of everyone on sdn who applied to northwestern (or interviewed at least)... did anyone else get interviewed by that guy? what the hell did you say to that question? I never broke eye contact and said 'sir - i have absolutely no idea' then he asked me how i would go about figuring it out... i said something about google it and find the answer in a couple minutes (which i did when i got home, best approximation = 6,000,000)

hmm...were you not talking a lot prior to that?

quite the contrary - i was the most talkative in the bunch, and this was the second question i was asked in the group interviewer (the first was also by him, he asked me about point lobos, a random a state reserve in my hometown, where he had been many times... luckily for me i had done a report on it in middle school and have been there like 20 times, so i was able to talk in depth about it... which probably freaked out the other applicant who had no idea what we were talking about 😀

he just wanted to see how you would reason through it then. i personally do not like the question. having been on your side of the table 4 years ago...a question like that would have thrown me off. plus i don't think it tells much of anything about the person. but he likes off the wall questions like that.

Hey all,

I just got my letter - couldn't believe it got here the same time Chicago people got their letters. Good luck to everyone still waiting!!🙂

BTW- Had a status page change late Tuesday, but didn't know about the whole blue screen fiasco (glad I was away during that or else I would have been pulling my hair out too). And I interviewed in late October, so this has been quite a wait. Oh yeah, and I'm in So. Cal.

Congrats and Good Luck to all!!:luck:

no mail yet, hopefully sat

Ladies and gentlemen, I did not get a letter in San Francisco. Sad, but I'm waiting 'til the mail comes tomorrow to be REALLY sad. After they teased us with that nice travel mug and everything, I thought they really cared. 🙁

Hey guys,
Congrats to those who got in!
No mail for me today in Boston.
And the wait goes on...
(although I really can't complain...since I interviewed last week it has been hardly any wait at all!)

I was a little confused about the mug. It was such a nice gift, but it's gonna be kind of weird carrying it around campus if I don't go to NU...🙄

Got a waitlist letter today in SoCal - Wednesday Status Change. Could be a pattern!

i thought it was nice, and i like having coffee w/ me wherever i go. even if i get rejected, i'll probably still carry it. i ain't got no shame.

Don't feel weird. I tutored med students at UCSD and I saw a couple students with the mug from Feinberg. I thought it was cute. They must have given out the same one last year--or maybe they randomly happened to buy one or something strange? Not sure.

Haha, thanks for the encouragement 🙂

I will carry my mug proudly, regardless of what I hear!

I got in...letter. madison wisconsin. Junqu didn't get in and went on a bender.

if I hadn't gotten, that mug would have embodied all my bitterness.

Huge congrats!!
May I ask when your page changed?😳

Early on....don't remember which day it was but it was early.

I got in!!!! Tuesday status page, don't know about the blue screen, November interview. And I live in Southern California. Can not believe it! It's my first acceptance! I love Feinberg 🙂 Now I can start using my mug (I didn't want to jinx it before)
Hope to see you guys at second look
