I thought the deadline for Columbia was 12/1/10?

I submitted all forms by 11/28, but i received a verification email a month later. I called to see if this is considered delayed, but they said it's ok since I had sent all forms before the deadline.

I submitted mine on 10/12/10, I was just wondering because a previous poster said they submitted theirs on 12/28 and I thought that was after the deadline.

I received an application complete email right after I sent it. Did you receive an additional one? I already made sure it said my app was completed by the deadline so I hope I didn't miss anything.

Mine was verified as complete by 12/28, so it took them a while although I called and checked that all my requirements were in by 11/28 (the same day i pressed that "submit" button).

Cool! I just was worried that I worked to get my stuff in so early and had the wrong deadline. Good luck with your apps!!

Yale. In🙂
Hey congratz on your acceptance! I got some questions for ya:

1. Do you mind sharing your stats
2. When did you receive your envelope?
3. How many tracks did you apply and what will you be studying?

Sorry for bumming you lol

This isn't necessarily true, the University of Texas may not have made the bulk of their decisions yet and some people may not feel comfortable posting their rejections on this thread or site in general.

There are 44 accredited programs and I bet that you don't see any rejections for a large number of those schools on this thread or site. I didn't apply there, but I did look at the school and the University of Texas has a great program. I'm sure they hand out a number of rejections every year and no one should feel bad if they get one (not just from UT, but from any school), you never know what a school is looking for and just because you aren't a good fit for one school doesn't mean that you aren't a great fit for somewhere else.

Cool. Thx 4 d info. Like I said was just sayin. Wasn't trying to disparage the program - was just wondering. Its most likely where I'll end up for my mph too as it is more affordable than most, if not all, other programs in its league.

Emory MPH in Behavioral Science (with full funding + stipend). Most likely accepting this offer unless UNC offers a better financial package.

Math/Econ + Psyc double major at top 10 public university
3.7 cum GPA; 3.7 and 4.0 major GPAs respectively
1 first authorship in top psyc journal
1 non-first authorship in behavioral med journal
6 poster presentations / 1 paper presentation at national conferences
GRE: 660V/800Q/5.5AW

Hoping to just use this opportunity to get more research experience and get into a Ph.D. program afterwards.

It seems as if no one on here has applied to Brown's MPH program. Is there something wrong with it 🤔 ? If anyone has applied, have you heard back yet?

hey guys! so i was accepted into emory's GH (still waiting for my actual packet) and michigan's HBHE (am planning on getting the GH certificate there). i'm having a hard time deciding, but am leaning towards emory, since it seems like they are more focused on international health, and especially research in AIDS than michigan is. does anyone know if this is true? are the research opportunities better at emory, when it comes to GH?

Congrats Regression. That was very outstanding!
But how did you get to know about the funding? Was is it a part of your admission package or was it posted on your OPUS website?

Hi Anthro...Alum from the Brown program here. I assure you nothing is wrong with the program 🙂. It is small and the MPH program is relatively new but great program. I am sure you will hear soon.

Just got into the MS Biostats program at University of Washington with full financial support! Is it even worth applying to Johns Hopkins? What do you guys think? The deadline is Feb 1st.

It's Hopkins. As long as you have the money to pay for the application, you might as well apply.

Would you say its name alone holds that much more weight over UW? They're very close in rankings...not sure that I'd go there even if they offered me the same package. Maybe I'm just making up excuses since I'm so burnt out from doing apps. I've already done 11. Guess one more couldn't hurt. lol

Yeah, overall in the life arena, Hopkins as a name more hold more weight. I'm sure public health ppl/employers knows UWashington has a strong program, but long term Hopkins transcends industry. you know? Yea. whats one more app? lol

Rejected: None

Nah just biostats. I forgot to mention i was math-econ major with virtually no coursework in biology. lol When was your deadline? Mine was January 5th. I'm surprised I heard back so soon!

I know this forum is mostly geared for mph applicants and not ms, but this is the place that is most closely aligned to my academic/career interests/goals. Hope I'm welcomed!

Awesome -- congrats!! When did you submit your application?

And, just out of curiosity, for what reasons do you consider your SoP strong? I see people say that a lot and wonder if its because they have a good reason to get a MPH, or they just think it was worded well.

I am sure you will be. I am a visiting student at UW and took a course in biostats last quarter. Students and staff are both very friendly.

The deadline for Epi was Dec 1st but they dont start reviewing applications before the first week of Jan. Atleast thats the info given in the departmental web page. I joined this forum coz' I dont know any one else whose applied to the Epi dept.

Has anyone applied to UMass Amherst? I was recently informed that my application is incomplete because i need to complete a supplemental application. Their deadline is Feb 1st and they will be sending me directions on how to complete this application in the next couple of weeks? Has anyone else experienced this or know what the supplemental application requires??

anthrovagabond, I applied to Brown. I spoke with the program coordinator yesterday. She said if you applied early, you will hear in the beginning/middle of Feb. She also said you would be notified via e-mail only if you are accepted. You have to go to your application to see if you were not.

Everyone I have been in touch with has been super helpful. If you have any questions about the process, just give them a call.

Good luck! Hopefully we can be classmates this coming fall!

Yes. UMASS Amherst is one of the schools that I have applied for. However, my application was for the PhD program. I'm not quite sure which program you have applied to, and for which department. My deadline is also Feb 1st, however, I do not know anything about a supplemental app. I believe my app is complete, I have not received any other notices. However, I still need one more LOR to be submitted. I already have two on file, so I'm just waiting for a third. I think they want a min of two refs. So...no big deal there. But, I honestly haven't heard anything about a supp application. Is this a departmental-specific application? PM me about this, because I'm really interested in this issue.

I submitted it in mid december if I'm not mistaken.

I'd say that it's strong because I let my personality show while keeping it terse and professional. I provided experiences/examples to show where my passion originated from and why I was qualified. Some of these experiences were challenges in my personal life that I had to overcome. I made sure to touch upon them in a tasteful professional way instead of coming off as if I were seeking pity. To be honest, I think my ethnic minority background and socio-economic status helped me out a lot. I hope I'm not crucified on here for this.

The only reason I don't like "affirmative action" is that it makes people feel that they have gotten somewhere they couldn't have gotten otherwise because of it, which is nonsense. I'm not sure what's worse -- you wondering that, or other people wondering that about you.

Same with scholarships and so on.

So, try to have a more faith in yourself, please. People working hard and doing good like you get places on their own effort. "Luck is where preparation meets opportunity." :corny:

I love the quote about luck. It's so true, too. Anyway thanks. Your post was very reassuring. 🙂

Let's please not turn this into a threat about affirmative action. If you really feel a deep desire to express your opinion about this controversial issue go start a new thread. This is a thread about 2011 acceptances/rejections.

Was Global Health your first choice? I think you have a stronger chance and Yale and Columbia. I think Harvard and JHU weigh standardized tests slightly greater than Yale and Columbia.

Columbia Decisions
The dean of admissions at Mailman personally told me they were not sending responses until early February, so you don't have to worry about Columbia until then.

 i missed that! sorry.

phew. alright...now, the waiting game 🙂

Hey guys, I know several of us are waiting on packets from Emory who have been accepted. I received an email about a week and a half ago saying that I should contact them if I hadn't received a packet it had been more than 3 weeks since I viewed my acceptance on OPUS...I waited until 5 weeks out and then sent an email just to follow up...I received an email back saying:

"Thank you for your email and congratulations on your acceptance into the Rollins School of Public Health! We have not yet begun sending out application packets due to some delays in our publications this year. I've attached a pdf that contains all of the information you will receive in that packet, but in a more bare bones format. You will probably be receiving another email with this information in it in a week or so but I figured I would just include it. We hope the official packets will go out by mid-February at the absolute latest. In the mean time all of the information that will be included in the print version is available to you in this attachment. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again."

Soo, point being that they are not sending out the packets until mid-February "at the latest" but will likely be sending out an email with it all in PDF next week.

Thought you guys would like to know!
