Lowell Scott Weil's achievements and contributions to the profession are not to be understated, even if his silastic implants don't stand up over time.

Jr on the other hand...

Common man FABI alone surpasses all that other nonsense like implants and a metatarsal osteotomy named after him even ortho foot and ankle mention/use.

is this podiatry's biggest success story? how much do these associates make?

What's the point of the growth and expansion he is talking about there? Basically, to become a large corporation chain like Heartland dental or Aspen Dental? Podiatry jobs and salaries suck already. At least you can create your own jobs at this point in some locations. With growing corporations like this basically you will be forced to take a job with them and get low compensation.

Yah this might make the midsize city market more difficult. You can always try to open where bears live.....doubt they tap that market.

I laughed out loud when I read your post. Other than the self serving APMA people involved, what causes you to have that opinion. BTW, I don’t disagree, though I do know a few good docs who sold to them.

I know of someone who’s the most ethical podiatrist on earth who got screwed over. That person was “let go” due to lies made up by “management “. And yes, that scumbag former Apma president is part of the managing team.

Interesting. I interviewed with this hospital coming out of residency, 7 years ago?

At the time they had a younger pod who seemed to do everything and an older pod who did mostly wounds/nails/forefoot. If I recall they had 1, maybe 2 NPs as well. Couple ortho docs that were super busy, but didn't care much about foot and ankle. I do know that the younger pod left a year or 2 later.

The facility was reasonably nice, but the area was super depressed. Almost an hour south of Columbus. HR straight up told me most docs lived in Grove City and burbs south of Columbus.
Probably not a forever job for anyone without ties to the area, but will pay well while trying to pay off those loans for a new grad.

Im willing to bet most reading this salivating offer stopped at the $350000 and ignored the creative email contact name. Then again, you only need a verbal score of 1 on the MCAT to enter podiatry school.

Why has this practice been advertising for an associate position year after year?

350k when seeing 60 patients per day daily with most weekends on call?

If it paid more I’d be interested. It wouldn’t be bad for a starter job but I don’t know who has been practicing for 5 years that would be interested.

Same type of person who would take most VA jobs 5+ years out of residency. Don’t care about surgery, call, etc and want easy work with good benefits

It does sound like nail jail. But there are still more podiatrists than there are good jobs. So $200k salary, $42k in employer contributions to a retirement account while working, and a pension upon retirement won’t be a tough sell for a lot of people, regardless of what the work actually is.

Pretty sure the only options are Beaverton (nice), Sunnyside (Clackamas area, also nice enough), or Interstate (in Portland, but east of the river near Mississippi St so maybe not awful). Interstate would be the only one that you probably wouldn’t want to live near so that could be a rough commute.

I had an amazing trip to Portland in 2010. Hiked Mount Hood. Kayaked. Saw endless waterfalls in little parks off the side of the road.

I assume this is how Natch lives every day.

Based on my past experience 13 years ago I can only assume Portland is now the coolest place ever and people should be tripping overthemselves for this job.

I was hoping to trigger people into going on a rant about the homeless ;)

My dad kept getting work assignments near Eugene and every time I'd ask him about it he'd go on about it being the meth capitol of the world or something like that.

My daughters both go to college in Eugene right now. They have a homelessness problem like many bigger cities and I've read that they're the bike theft capital of the nation. My eldest daughter had two bikes stolen on campus within the first two months of living there. Nonetheless, the forested areas surrounding Eugene are beautiful. I took a walk through a local park, sat in the rhododendron garden and watched a flock of wild turkeys stroll right past me.

How funny, a turkey pet! This is our first year as empty nesters so I'm avoiding getting any pets (don't want the responsibility) for now but I'll have to keep turkeys in mind! :1geek:

Cats are low maintenance and cuddly when you need just enough attention but not too much like a dog.

A succulent works too I guess

Well when you consider that I am only seeing 25 to 35 patients a week across 2 days of clinic ....I have time for pets. Continuing with my track record of getting paid more than I produce. Currently 2 turkeys, 8 chickens, 2 babydoll sheep then 2 dogs and 5 tarantulas (wife's) inside.

It’s the challenges to travel thing that I don’t want. We can now take off for the weekend without having to worry about any dependents so I want to enjoy that freedom for a bit. I could see getting a pet at some point though.

I used to have a tarantula collection in high school.

Thailand black, Mexican rose hair, goliath bird eater, costa rican tiger rump, cobalt blue, pink toe.

My sisters cat knocked over one of the 10 gallon tanks split down the middle with a cobalt blue and thai black in it. We never found them. Those are two spiders you do NOT want in bed with you or loose in your house. The thai black used to bite the glass when you walked by perched up on the two back legs. Venom used to drip from its fangs. It was awesome... until it disappeared then we all spent about 6 months in fear lol.

Sounds like a good gig. This maybe is a legit reason to do a fellowship? Unfortunately places will start requiring fellowship trained.....There are just a handful of these jobs every year publicly advertised. And they have a current pod, trained under Fleming. Notice how they left out trauma...is he staying or are you taking what he doesn't want?

And for people looking to Ortho groups, this is what to look for. 3 to 4 guys (girls). No foot person. When you start getting 6 plus they probably have a contract with a hospital to provide call and have no interest in a pod because they can't share call responsibilities. But 2 to 4 is the sweet spot. I did this. 2 Ortho 1 NP and I did all foot and ankle except ankle fx.

I am very familiar with this practice/job posting and it is odd trauma is left out of the posting. This job has always gone to Fleming grads as this is a high trauma position out of Redding, PA. So get ready to deal with a tough patient population and you'll never really be an owner. The person is leaving for personal reasons and not on account of the position being bad.

Let the influx of apps begin!!!

Also noteworthy, fellowship training is increasingly a requirement to be considered for surgical positions. In other words, it's the same 2-tier training as there was 20 years ago with PMS24 and PMS36 programs, now with an extra year added in! Podiatry ever forward!

Love how this is never addressed in depth from Dr Rogers or any of his buddies who helped create this mess.
