So, I interviewed at Adelphi a few years back and was not accepted. I applied again this year (after getting my MA at CUNY) and am wondering how the interview process works. There are many timeslots to choose from and about 8 applicants at each time slots. According to my calculations, they are interviewing almost 200 people. How do they decide? Do they just pick one student from each group to accept? What are they looking at? I want to put my best foot forward as it is my first choice. My interview is on 3/10 and I am so nervous.

Greensky, did you get your MA from Hunter? I'm currently considering their MA general program and would really like to hear anything about your experience, and how competitive you feel the program made you for doctoral work. Feel free to PM me if you have any advice to share.

This isn't helpful to the original poster, but I'm desperately seeking info about the Adelphi program. I would like to learn more about the program, opportunities to explore evidence-based treatments (given that it's quite psychoanalytic), and funding opportunities. Would any current students or informed others respond or PM me?

Thanks!

Hi,
I am finishing up my MA this spring at Hunter. I really enjoyed the program, and feel that it provided me with a wealth of knowledge about research and a solid foundation in psychology. Since the classes in the MA program are not everyday, I was able to work part-time and gain invaluable clinical experience as well. I concentrated in applied psych and was able to work closely with a few professors and am in the process of submitting a paper for publication.
As far as doctoral programs, I am still waiting to hear from a few, but have been accepted from three PsyD programs thus far. I feel that I needed to get an MA since my GRE scores are not stellar, and I wanted to show that I could handle graduate work. I feel that getting an MA in psych is a good stepping stone to get into a doctoral program.
The professors at Hunter are very helpful and the tuition is affordable. Every single doctoral interview I went on said that Hunter is a good school, and that my professors wrote me good references. With that said, if you are unable to get into a doctoral program the first time around (the preferred route), Hunter is a great option.
