Ahh! Desperately need help! I have been accepted to K-State but just got called off the waitlist for Tennessee!. I am in such a dilemma. I loved UTK when I visited. I have already found roomates for k state and we have begun to look for housing. I already accepted my loans for K state, but nothing as been applied yet. What do I do????? If i had got accepted right away to tennessee and not wait listed, I think I would have accepted UTK over kansas. But now this is so much harder because I have already had my mindset on going to K State. Please help!! I only have about 14 hours to think my life over! Any advice on any of the schools will help!

If your heart was set on UTK, then that is where you should go. 🙂 Nothing is permanent with K-State, but I'm not an expert on loans.

I agree. It may be a pain to do that all over again, but it is worth it to go to the school you want! You said it already, you would have chosen UTK if you would have been accepted. Pending no issues with loans (and I'm sure there are ways to change it), I would go to UTK if you have already done the comparisons and chose that. Don't worry about having to tell roommates you aren't coming because you don't want to sacrifice the school you want because you "feel bad". Just my $0.02.
BTW, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! 😀

Congrats on the acceptance!!!

You can change everything over from KS to TN. No problem. People do this all the time when they get off a waitlist to a preferred school!

Go with the best fit (and price tag) for you, which may not be the most convenient.

Thanks guys. Still a lot to think about. My biggest concern between the two schools is that k state seems very structured and I felt very comfortable during the visit for the interview that they were very organized. I think that is very important for the school to be organized. When I went to UTK, they were more laid back and not as organized. The only time I felt informed about the school was when I asked the questions, while at Kansas they were great at informing us without us having to ask anything. 😕😕😕:scared::scared:😕😕

What would the price difference be like for you?
It sounds like maybe you aren't so set on UTK, so if it were me I would look at the price difference. If one is significantly cheaper than the other, that might be worth a consideration.

What felt disorganized? Having been a student there, things are pretty structured, so maybe asking some questions (of Dean Brace or current students) would help your decision.

That's a hard decision. Do you happen to know where you were on the alternate list!

Are you just talking about admissions? Because you will never have to deal with admissions again as a vet student unless you work there.

I know UTK was on probation for a while to get some updates done for the AVMA. I would check and see how that's going. Complete, in progress, or vaguely planned? Although this might have worked to the students' benefit if there are now cool, new facilities.

Cost should be a humungous factor in admissions if you are planning to use loans to cover the whole thing.

Seconding this. It has it's rare moments of being a little disorganized, but I'm not sure that you won't find that anywhere you go. I need a fair bit of structure myself, and haven't felt like the program was too crazy or discombobulated yet.

The updates are very much in progress--I think they are supposed to be finished in time for my class to go into clinics next spring.

As others have said, cost is a huge issue. Also, I haven't felt like anything has been disorganized so far. All of the faculty/administration have been very helpful and accommodation if I ever needed anything. 🙂

Thanks guys! Yes cost is a huge factor but I will be OOS for both so it is not a big difference.

But I have made my decision and I will be attending UTK! Thanks everyone for being supportive! 🙂

Yay! I loved UTK when I visited. Congrats!

Has anyone else gotten called off the alternate list for UTK?
