ehm...just a question since i received the email interview invite (how gheeeetto) today. i've decided (so far anyways) on rochester, BUT I don't know if I still want to go to this interview. On one hand, I kind of think it's pointless since Rochester was my first choice AND my family lives there (=free room and board baby!). On the other hand I liked what I read about Albany's program and kind of want to keep my options open. Any thoughts as to what you would do in my shoes?! Please! Thanks in advance!

I think you may have answered your own question as you posted, but if I were you and I was completely satisfied w/ everything about Rochester, I don't think I'd want to waste the time and energy to go and interview at Albany. That's just me though...

If you feel like you may regret your decision one day, then why not just go ahead and interview. That way, at least you'll never wonder "what if..." I doubt I helped you any, but good luck deciding! :)

don't waste your time. :)

oh, and congrat's on the acceptance to Rochester, great school!

I don't know a thing about Rochester except that it's COLD, but I will say that Albany did not impress me AT ALL. The hospital (and city, too) seemed kind of "dark" and gave me a strange claustrophobic and eerie feeling. However, I did like the idea of systems-based learning. Their USMLE passing rate was not very good, though, so that makes me question the effectiveness of their curriculum.

Actually amc last year had 14 people over a 240 and their average was over the national average, so I don't know where you got your numbers on their pass rate...however, after looking at both I would say rochester offers many more opportunities and a better reputation. If you are sure you wouldn't go albany you should tell them because it will open an interview slot for someone else (which may be their only option)!

THANKS SO MUCH YOU GUYS!!! lol...and thanks for the congratulations too...'yall are so nice! OK I'm still takin' more advice so FEEL FREE to help out! You all have no idea how thankful I am for your help  ).

Don't waste your time. The interview is hell, and the school isn't all that impressive. They were going on and on and on about how cool it is to be allowed to do heart transplants. I was thinking to myself the whole time..."shouldn't you have started that a LONG time ago!?!". I think UF started doing heart transplants in the 80s!

My interviewer had the gaul to tell me I should feel special for having been invited. He said most of the apps to Albany are crap and only the good ones get invited. I didn't care for him much at all. He was pretty arrogant.

Anyway...the moral of the story: I shouldn't have wasted my time and money traveling to the school after being accepted by a med school close to home and neither should you. :)

Congrats!

the albany medical center (the hospital connected to the college...literally) just "let go" of over 100 hospital staff including quite a few doctors. they say it is a matter of finance and needing to save money.

i don't know what to think of that. does this affect the med students clinical exposure? who knows, but im sure it doesnt help.

Definitely go to Rochester. It's where you will be happiest. Besides, someone else who has no interview might need it

don't waste your time and money going to albany. if you are satisfied with your first choice, leave the albany interview for someone who really needs it. just my opinion.

Hey everyone. I am reviving this thread because I also got an interview at Albany and do not know if I should go. I got into a school here in Texas and really like the low tuition, but, as someone above suggested, isn't all this about keeping all your options open? I mean, I'd be happy to remain in Texas, but what if.....There's always that what if question that I just cannot shake. Many of the people posting don't sound too thrilled about AMC. I know little about this school (except what I've gathered from their viewbook), so if have any useful info that can help me decide, please post it. Thanks!!

Castaway and Michelys.....seems like you guys are both more comfortable at your respected schools. Plus, tution is cheaper. If it was me, I wouldn't go. I'd say screw it. Plus, give your spots to someone who's top choice is Albany and hasn't heard yet. As far as AMC, I've heard they are a good school. But I've heard their interviews are STRESS interviews.
