Who are the All Star surgeons of podiatry? Are there any doctors specifically that are well known for being the best of the best?

There are a lot of great surgeons out there.

Many of the ACFAS and Podatry Institute lecturers and skills course instructors are considered pretty skilled F&A surgeons, but a lot of that perceived surgical skill is also just political skill/luck in terms of residency and professional connections that get you networked in. Nonetheless, they (or APMA mentors network DPMs )would be good places to start if you're looking to shadow DPMs who are likely to be practicing at a high level and have a good attitude.

Don't get me wrong... I'm all for CME and giving back to our profession by any means possible, financially, volunteering time/skills, or educating peers and colleagues at some level (pre-pod, pod school, residency, other DPM attendings, MD/DOs, allied health workers, general public health, etc etc etc). However, definitely be aware that for each big name lecture/journal circuit F&A surgeon out there, there are probably 3 or 4 you'll never hear of who are equally or more skilled in the operating room yet just "undercover" in Anytown, USA private practice and more interested in making millions and helping their patients than they are into self-promotion, travelling to lecture and shaking hands, and large scale education.

I could not have stated in better. Although I do believe there are some very talented "well known" DPMs who have taught and are constantly on the lecture circuit, I have also seen the results of some of many other "well known" DPMs and was horrified.

Yes, if you perform enough surgical cases you will have some poor results, but I'm talking about consistently poor results with little concern for the patient.

And as Feli stated so accurately, there are MANY extremely talented DPMs who fly under the radar who perform amazing surgery on a regular basis and you've never heard of and probably never will.

There's a DPM relatively close to our office who is in solo practice who is one of the most talented docs I've ever seen. He is not well known, is not on the lecture circuit, etc., but performs excellent surgery with excellent results. Our practice would like to bring him on board, but at the present time he would like to remain "solo".

Don't always be impressed by big names, although many of them are certainly excellent, there are also many "unknowns" who are equally as talented.

Agree 100%.
