So freshmen year, my gpa was dog-****(3.0). However, the last 45 hours, my gpa is a 3.85. The cumulative being still weak af sitting at a 3.42. Yes, I am aware that up-ward trends may be noticed and taken into consideration, but my question is to what extent? Would a 3.6 that was brought up from a 3.0 be better than someone who consistently earned a 3.65? I mean technically no, but arguably, the former is more impressive.

Another thing of interest I should mention is that some dental schools, if not perhaps most, use a point system. A dentist I shadowed that was formerly on the board of one of the dental schools in my state, told me this as a "secret." He said that they used a computerized system, achieving 10 pts ( >3.6=4 pts, >20Dat=4pts, and 2pts for volunteering and shadowing) would earn you an interview. The applications that do not satisfy a minimum of 10 pts are treated as second class applications, that is, they are not tossed out, rather, just given a lot less consideration. Thoughts on this?

edit: I just remembered that it's 0.5pts for volunteering/shadowing and 1.5pts for your grades in humanities/English classes.

Where do personal statements and LORs fit on this point system? I do believe DAT and GPA are the highest requirements, but I didn't think that it was so cut and dry...

I think you are talking about TX. If so, I whole-heartedly don't believe in that secret. It's your GPA and DAT that get you past that computer program then other factors are analyzed afterwards. Anyways, science GPA matters much more than cumulative. If you can get that to more than 3.5 or above, then it would be good.
Also, obviously scoring atleast a 20 will boost your chances!

Your situation is VERY common. Don't sweat it. If you keep up this performance You have nothing to worry about.
