Hi I've been around here lurking for several months as a member without posting, but now is as good of a time as ever. My main question is regarding the necessary supplemental applications. I will finish with my Pharmcas application soon, but how soon after e-submitting the application do schools expect to receive their supplemental app. The reason for the question is that I can't really receive my letters of recommendation until a month or so when my professors will be working more regularly at my school.

I'm also debating whether to choose to apply for early admission to my home school, the University of Kentucky. Since I plan on retaking the PCAT, I fear that I would be passed over in this stage, and by selecting early admission I will decrease my chances at the schools I'm applying to that work on a rolling admissions process. If UK still received my application at the same deadline required for early admission, would there be any chance of them still looking at the application or would they simply defer it for the general process. The answers to these questions may be obvious to others, but any advice is much appreciated.

Hi! I'm also applying to early admission at U of K. I'm sending off my supplemental application today 🙂 *crosses fingers*

Ok, I don't really know how to answer your question, but I'll tell you what I'm planning on doing and maybe that will help you.

I am applying for early admission at UK right now. I have already submitted my pharmcas application; they have my transcripts and PCAT scores already too. UK should have all my supplemental materials by the end of the week. The deadline for early admission is September 1st, but I would assume the earlier the better. They take an average of 10 people every year for early decision, but I don't know how many people actually apply that early. Interviews are in October and everyone will know if they have been accepted or not accepted by the 31st. If you are not accepted, you will automatically be rolled over to the next patch of applicants.

If I do NOT getting accepted into with early decision, I plan on taking the PCAT in November to increase my PCAT score. I scored an 83 on the first go around, but I only reviewed a few hours the night before. UK will get my new PCAT score 6 to 8 weeks after that from pharmcas and then will have still have all of other application stuff months before some people even apply.

My advice is to apply to early decision at UK. You will find out by Oct 31st if you made it or not, and then by Nov. 1 you can send out all your other applications to the other schools if you need to. I would make sure you have all the supplemental applications ready for those schools done ahead of time and have your checkbook ready to give pharmcas more money. Even if you wait until Nov. 1, that's still a heck of lot earlier than when some people apply.

The average incoming class last year had a GPA of a 3.5 and their PCAT score average was 85. I would suggest email the profs you want to write your recommendations for you now and ask them. Or even call them at home. That's how I got two of my recommendations done. I sent them the seupplemental reference form and then they mailed it back to me. They may even be grateful that you didn't hit them up at the start of school when they're super busy.

I hope this helps and good luck!

What part of Kentucky are you from?

is it just me or same for others but dont you think the fees to applying schools are so expensive!! pharmcas what charges $100+ for each schoool and supplemental application which costs $30 ~ $200? Where all these money go! Man if you are poor you can't even dare to apply multiple schools. this is sad...

That's why graduate school is for the elitist! LOL Just kidding by the way!

My lab partner and I just sit around all day hypothesizing where all the money goes... he's applying to medical school and I'm of course applying to pharmacy school and we've both felt a huge tug on our wallets this past few weeks.

Here are a few of our theories:

1. They're saving up money to build a parking lot in memory of all reject applicants that is 8.7 miles from the closest building on campus and 13.7 miles from any gas station.

2. They're funding their own space exploration program. Who knows what medical needs aliens may need.

3. They're cloning all their best students so no one else can get in and they just keep getting money from supplemental applications.

4. They've found a way to work less than 10 hours a week opening envelopes and depositing checks and still get paid mucho much.

Do you guys have any theories?

Where did you get this amount? It's not $100+ for each school...you can find this out at the Pharmcas website.

This varies by school, I thought that the deadline for PharmCAS and supp apps are the same, but maybe that was for the schools I applied to.

I know I submitted my PharmCAS first ahead of time due to their recommendation that it takes about 4-6 weeks to process (transcripts, etc.).
But if you have to wait, then wait for the letters of rec but I don't think the PharmCAS and supp are related in that once you e-submit you have a specific time to submit supp. I hope I didn;t read into your question too much in the latter section of my response, good luck.

Thanks for all the help, though I'm still unsure of whether to apply early decision or not. As I said, my biggest worry is that it would jeopardize my chances at the schools on rolling admissions. Three of my friends were all accepted last year there during the early decision however, so I dont' want to risk missing out on a better chance of getting in through that route. They also all graduated, as I will do in the spring.

And for VAF, I'm from Nicholasville but am a student at Georgetown College.
