Any 27-29 MCAT with interviews????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hey any students with 27-29 mcat score recieved any interviews yet? if so, where? and when where u complete??

thanks.🙂

Hey i got a 27, and i have had one interview and i have one coming up. trust, me, i dont know how i got my interviews...but i have a lot of other stuff instead of my bad grade on that stupid test...errr blah the MCAT😛

April MCAT: 11 P, 9 V, S, 9 B.
GPAs: ~3.8

Interviews at: Tufts University, Boston University, University of Miami, University of South Florida, University of Southern California, Florida State University, University of Indiana and University of Florida.

Accepted so far at 1, and I hear from the rest very soon.

Wish me luck!

Walter

MCAT: 8 V, 8 PS, 10 B

6 interviews thus far

waiting on 4 of them and 2 coming up

29 MCAT (11 P, 7!!! V, 11 B)
3.55
Not a URM

Interviews: Rush, UCLA (Geffen), Harvard, Yale, Oregon H&S, Meharry, GWU, Albany (I only attended 3 of these because I got a Rush acceptance in Jan)

This is such a crazy, chaotic process but it can have a happy ending even if your stats are not stellar. :luck:

Hi,

Just wanted to resurrect this thread to see how things turned out for everyone!!!!

(FYI- I scored a 29 on my MCAT in Jan '07, so this is definitely of personal interest!)

Hope people have good news to share!

Interviews: Rush, UCLA (Geffen), Harvard, Yale, Oregon H&S, Meharry, GWU, Albany (I only attended 3 of these because I got a Rush acceptance in Jan)
:luck:

Wow!
What's the deal? How did you manage this with such stats?
Anyway, congratulations!

Now this is my story.

I had 29Q,: P10, V8, B11, English is my second language, GPA 3.8, science GPA 3.75, MA in Physiology.
August MCAT + my own stupidity = applied late everywhere, just before the deadlines, also I am 30 y.o. now and had 3 gaps in my education. Not a URM.
Also was restricted due to family reasons to apply only in NY, PA, CT and NJ.
and still:

Interviews: Einstein, Buffalo, Stony Brook, Downstate, NYMC, Drexel. 1st interveiw - Feb 15th, the rest of interviews in March (some of them probably for the waitlist).

Accepted so far:
Drexel (regular acceptance), Stony Brook (got off the waitlist today).

Waitlists: Einstein, Downstate, Stony Brook (got off), Buffalo.

Still waiting to hear from: NYMC, but this is not an acceptance: either a rejection or a waitlist since they send acceptances by email but they just sent my "something" via snail mail.

I am not saying that you should relax and apply late, lol, this was a horrible year for me, do not apply late. I didn't get accepted until May 1st (interviewed at Drexel March 29th), learned on May 7th, was really going insane before that date since summer was approaching and had no acceptances.

So moral of the story is:
ADCOMS are great, they look at the whole application, they are not biased against stats, low MCAT, age, etc. The personal essays DO MAKE a difference, otherwise I would never have gotten any interviews in my situation, I am sure.

Good luck to you, just know what you are worth, it will shine through if not in one part of the application then in another part!

I have a 28 and a 3.8 and only got 1 interview (now waitlisted). No idea how that happened...

3.8 with a 28q. Wayne and MSU are the only two allo schools I interviewed at of the 7 I applied to and I got into both. Plus into 4 of the 5 osteo schools.

This is sortof hopeful:

3.4 UG GPA, sci and total
29 MCAT

applied broadly, good EC's (research, clinical experience, volunteering) & LORs

3 interviews which have led to 3 waitlists...

I would LOVE to know how this will turn out.

Just check out my mdapplicants. I think I didn't get much luck this year is because my aps were complete in November! :-(

APPLY EARLY! GET THOSE LORS, TRANSCRIPTS, SECONDARIES OUT QUICK!

mdapps below, basically 28S, 3.9, good ECs. I was invited to 5 interviews, went on 4, one acceptance, 1 rejection, 2 haven't-even-heard-from-yets. I didn't want to do DO, so i didn't apply to any. really people, APPLY EARLY!!! I am pretty sure that is the only thing that got me in. All of my interviews i went on were between late september and mid october. i know some people with very similar stats (and some with better ones) who interviewed later and didn't get in to the school i did. EARLY!!!!!!!!! DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

just have to say WOW... wow... are you a disadvantaged-minority and military-veteran or something?

I had a 29 and an ok GPA (3.65 overall, 3.8 science). Good LORs, clinical work experience (I'm non-trad), and interesting and diverse ECs. No research or anything like that. And I did my post-bac at community college at night while working full-time days.

I interviewed at EVMS, MCV, Jefferson, and USUHS. I was accepted to Jefferson and USU and waitlisted at the other two. I was rejected post-secondary from UVA and U Maryland (my reach schools, obviously, so I wasn't surprised).

I didn't apply broadly but the response was good, IMO.

Word of advice- get your app in early and get secondaries back ASAP. Be yourself in your responses and then when you interview. Be confident, even if you don't have the same background as other applicants.

Good luck to everyone applying this cycle!

so this is an old thread... but from my school alone, I can give a few statistics from the sub-30 group (which was most people)

interviews by person (all are michigan residents, btw)

29, 3.99 GPA: Wayne State (accepted), UToledo (accepted), MSU (waitlist), MCW (rejected)
29, 3.9: Wayne State (a), MSU (wl)
29, 3.6: Wayne State (wl), MSU (wl)
27, 3.99: Wayne State (a), Boston U, (wl)
27, 3.6: Wayne State (wl), MSU (wl)
27, 3.5: Wayne State (wl)
25, 3.8: Wayne State (a)... odd case here... parent a major donor.

Just wondering...are u a minority? cause that would make lots of sense. Anyways, for you guys there, I had a 29 Q (7V, 11 P, 11B). 3 MD interviews: 2 acceptances, 1 wait list. aside from that, 3 MD rejections (w/o an interview). 1 DO interview (declined, I was already accepted at Madison). Good luck to all.

Oh yea, I know it took me a WHILE TO respond to this, but don't hate, rather congratulate..... a verbal score does not tell the whole story my friend... that is, if you think I got in to med schoold because I am a minority....

P10-B10-V9 P / 3.8GPA

5 MD interviews (Georgetown, Creighton, Medical College of Wisconsin, Stony Brook, Meharry)
6 DO interviews (Des Moines [accepted], Western [accepted], Touro CA, Touro NV, Midwestern AZ, KCUMB)

I applied and completed around early-mid Aug

minijoy...

You've already been accepted by Loyola?

I have a 29 and have been offered 4 interviews: Loyola, Vermont, Medical college of Wisc, and Chicago Med...waiting to hear from the first two

I went through this process last year. It's not necessarily fun with below a 30, but you'll make it through!

I interviewed at a 9 schools and eventually got into 4 of them with a 29Q. It's just more of a guessing game with who is going to take the time to read your application rather than just look at your score. I was interviewed at top tier schools (Harvard, Stanford, Mayo) but not at some of more local non-ranked schools that I thought I had a shot at. Just keep your head up and remember that you worked for 4 years to get this far...

doesn't it seem kind of crappy that we can make it all the way to the interview and then get rejected because of a low mcat?! I had one interviewer tell me, "you're mcat is going to be kind of a sticking point with the committe." I wanted to say wtf! then why give me an interview you sob!? Of course I did not 😀

Hmmm. I guess it depends on the school. I went to seven interviews, and only one (UVM) brought up my MCAT score (specifically, they asked me to explain the 8 I got in PS).

Do you guys think that I have even a chance of hearing anything this cycle? I've been complete for about 2 months at most schools and all I have is 5 wonderful rejections and 3 wonderful holds. Is it even worth it to keep my hopes up?

At one of my interviews, the interviewer actually said my MCAT was good... granted he was a Ph.D. and probably didn't know any better haha. He proceeded to say my verbal section was awesome... in my head I was thinking, "Um that was my lowest section"... and then he said "You must be a good writer!" haha funny Ph.D. man mixing up verbal and essay...

But I agree dd... why bring up the scores if you're already at the interview?

I think you still have a chance... it took Rochester 2.5 months to get back to me. Keep your head up!:luck:

EXACT same thing happened to me. The interviewer asked me about my MCAT and was kind enough to let me know that "we haven't really been taking too many people this year with below a 30." I took that as his cue for me to explain why I should be one of those few, but it still stung. Now that's all I can think about as I sit here waiting to hear back from them.

*sigh* At least a low MCAT score is easier to fix than a low GPA...

Sometimes they are just trying to get a rise out of you but I understand your pain. A low mcat score is easier to fix, but you'd think if you have a good gpa they would weigh that just as heavily. After all your mcat is a reflection of one day's work and a gpa describes you over four years.

And I'm thinking lacrosse that utmb is holding out on us because of our mcat! By the way I couldn't help myself earlier and I sent an email asking if they were going to be sending anymore offers to oosers anytime soon.

Oh I totally agree. Let me know their response to that email! My guess, you'll get a very generic, unhelpful reply. Only the best!

If they give me another, "Out of state offers have been sent out starting on oct. 15th," I'm going to fly down there and kick some ass! :beat:

Or at least think really mean things about them!!!

29S and an interview at my state school...it's my top and only choice really, i guess i'm kinda putting all my eggs in one basket 🙂 i didn't really expect to get any love from anywhere else though. i figure why shell out a ton of $$ to apply broadly this year when i can just save it for MCAT prep for next season if i don't get in?

1 interview at UAB and no acceptances so far. Check out my mdapps for more info.

I really hope to get into UAB, that would be the perfect Christmas present!

3 allo interviews and 1 acceptance so far. Waiting to hear from school #2 (hopefully this week) and the third interview is after 1/1. oh- and 1 private, my state school, and 1 out of state. 🙂

I guess I'll post my info here as well.

27Q

Allo Interviews: ETSU, Mizzou, UMKC, Tulane, WVU, VCU
Osteo Interviews: KCUMB

Two acceptances so far.

Good luck to everyone.

Congrats on the acceptances man! It's good to hear some success stories from people that don't have 40's on their mcat.

30P Mcat and 3.25ish GPA after finishing up all my prereqs.

1 interview, 1 acceptance. All I needed 🙂.

Thanks. Good luck to you. It's easy to buy into the SDN conventional wisdom, but keep in mind that the people that post here generally aren't representative of the whole applicant pool.

I know plenty of people who have gotten into Med School with sub-30s.

Where are your acceptances from if you don't mind me asking?

It just takes one.
Yup. And the great thing is that I cant see myself going anywhere else. It just really clicks, plus all the equipment is brand new, and technology is state of the art. Toss in that its semi close to home, and its a perfect match for me.

hiya..

i think you are right...they just do it to see if u can handle the pressure of being scrutinized...one of my interviewers basically told me that my score wasn't good enough...and he had reservations about me...i wanted to tell him..you invited me i didn't crash this interview...but instead i explained it and i explained every not so impressive part of my transcript to him...in the end he said he genuinely believed and enjoyed my responses...and i was accepted a few weeks later... i don't know how these ppl choose who to accept and who not to accept...but if u have an interview...my advisor told me..to explain the bad parts of your application without making excuses and then truly highlight the good parts esp the parts that make u unique ,your age, interests, special skills, occupation...its up to them if they like u or not🙂

oh and before you remind me of me race... i think this advice applies to many ppl who are melanin challenged as well🙂

...i actually got an F in yoga one summer...its quite an amusing story...i didn't even know it was there until amcas told me...and i always explain it in every interview and i do it in such a way that they laugh every time...

so far i have 8 acceptances 6 md and 2 do...and 1 waitlist waiting to hear from 2 more schools...

good luck!

Hey, I was just placed on Stony Brook's waitlist. I didn't know they accepted people off of it so soon. When were you placed in it? Did you send letters of interest or anything?

As for the thread, I have a 28Q with 3 Interviews: Stony Brook, Upstate, and Jefferson

are you sure the post you are responding to isn't from last year? he's talking about feb/march interviews like they already happened?

28Q

Michigan State University CHM

Complete: Mid-September
Invite: 11/15 for end of November

29R best combined, otherwise I got a 28 and a 26. After a three month hiatus, I got an interview invite from Temple today!!! Yaaaaay! Not everyone can be a superstar, and those of us with lower stats still can get some love! I know its hard, but try to stay positive. I had pretty much accepted that I was done for this year, then I came home to this nice surprise!

Dang girl...you're on a roller coaster. Like didn't you get tired of interviewing? Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!😀

hahaha thanks...its looks like you are busy as well! u have aome great interviews coming up!! congrats on uva and good luck to you!!

scowdeva--congrats on temple!!! good luck on your interview!!

how sad, i come to this thread for hope that my 30 and 3.5 gpa will be worthy of an acceptance, but i have only found that i have not done the things that i need to do...so many ppl that got 29's did ECs that they cared about...i guess i gotta spend some time with that and i'll get into a good school.....
