Any 27-29 MCAT with interviews????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
With a very strong GPA and etc

You will be more than fine for all DO schools.

There will be some alleopathy schools who will interview you at least. 🙂

ugh, I hope so.... Didn't watch the clock and my ps dropped by 4 points! My bio also dropped by about 4 points (not sure wtf happened there). 28 and don't remember the written. Good GPA with some ok EC's. Only put out three applications this cycle; Wayne State, Oakland (both in MI) and Baylor). Secondaries from all three, only filled out Wayne States but plan on doing Oaklands as well. Not even going to try for baylor with that score... sigh. If nothing this year, retake and hit up every school possible!

Has anyone sent updates prior to getting an interview invite? I am "under review" or have been put in the "re-review later" category at most of the schools I applied to and am wondering if sending an update/interest letter would be an effective way to get an invite. Obviously this would be different than a letter of intent since I haven't interviewed...Has anyone done this or heard of anyone who has? Some of the schools I applied to accept letters to update with grades/activities/awards etc but I'm not sure if this is meant for before or after an interview. Please help!!

Yes, you can write pre-interview update letters/letters of interest. I did this when I applied, probably played a role in 2 out of the 3 interview invites I got.

Depends on the school but I've read that a few are very receptive to them. Overall theres no way it could hurt you. I sent in an update letter to all my schools just this past week (pre interview) 🙂 good luck

Is there a standard format for these letters? I was thinking about updating with some additional volunteering I have been doing and research conference stuff for sure but the rest of my activities (work etc) haven't changed. Is it appropriate to remind the committee about what I have been doing or just update with the new stuff and express my STRONG interest in their school?

Thanks for the quick responses!

I just mirrored the format given on AMCAS and numbered them. Could it have been a bit more formal? Probably, but I saw no reason to deviate from the format the rest of my application already is in.

Just the new stuff and your interest in the school. In mine, I just wrote a short paragraph on my update (I had a new publication) and a short paragraph on my interest in the school.

If you have multiple updates, you could list them (with a quick description, like GoZags suggested) or write it out in paragraph form. Up to you.

28M. 3.4. 7 interviews (2 MD, 5 DO). Accepted at PCOM and AZCOM so far

Buddy of mine with a 29R got invites to 12 MD schools, and has acceptances already. Interviews at top tier schools as well.

He is ORM, but exceptional ECs and life story.

SORRY can't expand too much, cuz he is really a dead giveaway for those who know him. Probably already blew it hahaha...he'll forgive me 😍

Unless he's a regular SDN'er and his mdapps profile is up, I doubt you gave his ID away.

MCAT 27, GPA 3.93
BS in Psychology from Tulane, currently working at a private mental health treatment program/residence

11 invites MD out of 15 applied (GWU, Tulane, Meharry, Morehouse, All Texas Schools except Baylor)
An acceptance at Tulane!!!
On the alternate list for GWU

The earliest I'll know for any Texas school acceptances is Nov 15, so I may get more...(crosses fingers)

28, accepted to one MD and an interview at another next month.

29Q here with five interviews and an MD acceptance!
It can be done!

yes, but the average for people being accepted is a 30, the average for people even applying is about a 28. The mean (median?) score for the spring MCAT this year was 25.6.

in other words, the average person to get in will be in the 75th percentile.

plus, let's not forget the whole bell curve issue. the difference between a 28 and a 30 is a lot less than a 30 and 32... even more so for 32 to 34.

No, most schools average mcat is around 28. That's for the ones that are accepted

a better thread would be for 24-27. A 28/29 is not bad at all.

I'm not too sure about this. There are a few schools that have MCAT averages of 30.X. However, the vast majority are 31-32 (at least the reasonable ones, not talking about harvard here) and I don't think there are many schools that have averages around 28 (unless you consider 30 being around 28, which you really shouldn't because ADCOMS certainly don't). However, many osteopathic schools and the minority catering schools tend to have averages of 28 and below.

With that said, I am also rocking a 28R (retake) and have been complete since end of July and have had 3 IIs. I am still waiting to hear from 24 schools.

I think that the med school average for APPLICANTS is around 28, but the vast majority of schools have a MATRICULANT average of 31-32. And yeah, I think osteopathic schools would have the matriculant average of 28. But it is getting a little higher year in and year out though for many reasons.

Hey guys!

I'm applying all in-state (Florida) and I got a 27 MCAT (10-7-10) and had a 3.63 science and normal GPA when applying ... I'm a woman and a minority (immigrant from Cuba). I applied a bit late because I had to take the last MCAT this year since I'm graduating in three years and I wasn't done with my prereqs 'til then.

Do you think I might have a chance? I'm kind of worried that I haven't seen any change in status from most schools in about a month. The optimist in me likes this rather than immediate rejections, lol.

Should I apply to Nova D.O.? I've always wanted M.D. I don't know if I'm settling by doing so. Or in case of no M.D. acceptances, should I just apply next year?

Thanks!

Isn't 29 the national average for people that get in? Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I thought. I got a 30, but I know at the school I'm going to there are people with 27's.

27M, 4 MD interviews, 1 MD acceptance.

This whole process isn't 100% based on numbers.

3.9 GPA, 28P MCAT

Accepted as of today from my first interview! 😀

Still have two more interviews to go!

26Q 3.7GPA
3 Interviews, 2 Acceptances! (Wake Forest and Saint Louis University)

You can do it! Schools are looking for well rounded applicants. It's no longer ALL about the numbers.

5 md interviews 3 do interviews, 1 do acceptance at nova with 28 mcat

28Q MCAT, 3.79 GPA: 4 MD interviews invites. Will probably attend only 2.
