Wow awesome schools! Congrats!! Whats your status? Did you get in?University of Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Penn State, The Commonwealth Medical College, and WVU
hey any students with 27-29 mcat score recieved any interviews yet? if so, where? and when where u complete??
thanks.🙂

Most of my interviews were blind to GPA/MCAT (i.e. they could only see my extracurriculars and essays). In one that was not blind, I was asked about my score, but got into that school anyway. I had 9 IIs, 5 acceptances, and 4 WLs.
It's all in my post history anyway so I'll just post it here. I interviewed at Creighton, Georgetown, Loyola Chicago, Wayne State, Oakland, Pitt, Ohio State, NEOMED, and University of Toledo. I got a generous scholarship at Oakland that made it my cheapest option by far and will be matriculating there.
mind sharing your gpa and mcat? but congrats!! all great schools 🙂Most of my interviews were blind to GPA/MCAT (i.e. they could only see my extracurriculars and essays). In one that was not blind, I was asked about my score, but got into that school anyway. I had 9 IIs, 5 acceptances, and 4 WLs.
Taking it in June won’t put you at a disadvantage if you decide to retake it.I'm trying to get my transcripts in and verified asap. I'm still agonizing/torturing myself over whether or not I should retake the MCAT, so now I'm considering the June date... do you think that would put me at a disadvantage?
Isn't the turnaround time going to be different with the new MCAT? Don't quote me on it, but I thought scores were released anywhere between 30-60 days. I took the MCAT in June of last year, and I still interviewed early.
Oh okay! Well, I wish you lots of luck! I think you'll be okay taking the MCAT in June, you'll just have to be on top of things when it comes to your turnaround times and secondaries etc.
🙂
Yes, I got interviews with an MCAT between 27 -29. 5 interviews, 2 waitlists, 3 acceptances. It can be done!
Sent you a personal messageHi thanks for your response! I was wondering what your GPA was? And whether you'd be willing to elaborate on the schools and gave you interviews/waitlisted/acceptances?
To all those sub 30ers who were accepted, got any tips for us applicants for this cycle :O? What do you think helped you stand out among those 32s, 35s, and 33s that all applied?
If I knew that answer, I would bottle and sell it. I had an MBS from an MD medical school (in state). Had loads of connections with shadowing DOs. I did apply to MD, but my heart has always been DO for various personal reasons. I am also a certified EMT with experience and research. I did not have any "coaching" regarding interviewing techniques with three of those interviews. My coaching in my MBS happened after the fact. Before coaching, two acceptances. After coaching, one acceptance. I only attribute my acceptances to luck and a personal belief that I would get accepted somewhere. Also my family lived at church! No not really................Just remember that if you are getting an interview, they are interested in you. Be yourself, know the history of the school, curriculum etc and of course the almighty question "Why are you interested in becoming a doctor". Know your essays that you wrote to that particular school by heart. Make copies of each that you wrote to the different schools. (primaries and secondaries and of course your personal statement!) I had a notebook with each school on it, dates of applications, essays written etc. After a while, the essays became all one big blur. Face it, some of them are redundant and you could copy and paste a lot of information on each one. Know the area that you are interviewing in because one school did ask me if I ever visited the state before. ( I didn't..........ouch!) The night before, I did a mad recap of the history of the school, etc. They all are unique in a sense. TRY not to be nervous......(yeah, right!) If you are in a group interview, try not to monopolize the conversation. Be a good listener as well as a contributor! That's all folks from me! P.S. DO schools??????............know all about the history of osteopathy and why you applied to an osteopathic school!. That is a definite you will be asked! Good luck!any suggestions from your coaching? haha 🙂
I am thinking it might be his LORs? To not even get interviews with those stats is a mystery. Perhaps he did not apply broadly. You applicants from New York seem to have the most problems from what I can see???? Being instate is usually an advantage from what I have been told! I am sure that he is probably reapplying. If he did not bring up that MCAT and no intentions of doing so, he might have to apply MD AND DO if he really wants to be a doctor or bypass to an MBS and see where that will take you in the aftermath. Just my two cents!I got interviewed at every state school in New York with an MCAT of 27 and a GPA of 3.69. Every interview I attended I was accepted. Your friend probably does not have exceptional recommendations, or his personal statement might be either too weak or too cliche.
I'm having trouble narrowing down a school list- I've seen a few people on here talk about Pittsburgh, but their median MCAT is a 36 according to the MSAR. This is definitely somewhere I'd be over the moon to just interview at, but had I not been on this thread, I would've eliminated it off the bat because of that high number alone...anyone have any advice about schools like this? Are there any other schools that advertise high stats but give lower MCAT people a chance ? Thanks! 🙂
Good job! Glad you found it. Golden words in that thread!@silvermecca reading his 2015 application guide now haha
Goro is very approachable if you send him a personal message with your list of schools you are applying to. He will offer great non biased advice both for MD and DO. I am sure he will be very willing to scan your list etc. I will be following you throughout the year. Some of the people who contacted me on this site and are applying this cycle, it will be exciting to see where you all will be attending this time next year. Yes, it will happen just like it happened to me! Good luck and may the force be with you!!! lol@silvermecca reading his 2015 application guide now haha
@silvermecca thanks!
I really hope I can update this thread with good news as the next year unfolds 🙂
I interviewed at Pitt relatively early in the game with a sub-30 MCAT, high GPA, some research, and lots of community service. Was waitlisted and ended up withdrawing, but I did interview!

Remember to post when you get accepted!I'm pretty sure I've read every post on here over the past year. Submitted AMCAS in June, hoping I can be lucky enough to get an acceptance with my MCAT being in this range. Good luck everyone!

On secondaries, if they ask you to talk about your grades or address any problems in your gpa etc did any of you talk about doing less than ideal on the mcat?
I also have this question! If anyone who has gotten accepted could chime in, I'd really appreciate it.
Kind of late to the party, but I received a 27-29 MCAT score and received 7 MD interviews last cycle; 2 acceptances, 5 WL. I was accepted off the WL at all 5 schools, including my number 1 choice (top 20) where I will be matriculating, so there is hope! I also did not discuss my MCAT score in any of my essays. I think it's pretty important to focus on your strengths in your essays and avoid making excuses for poor scores/grades. I wrote letters of interests to my top choices, an "in the area" email when I interviewed at a medical school which happened to be in the same area as another school I had not yet heard back from, and a letter of intent to my number #1 choice where I was wait listed and eventually accepted. I'm an incoming MS1 doing absolutely nothing this summer, so if you want more details/specific PM me 🙂
Yes, I am.I will probably PM you later to ask some questions, but for now I am wondering if you are URM?
