Any 27-29 MCAT with interviews????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone out there has a 30+ MCAT, higher GPA's, and good EC's getting mad from reading this thread? I probably would have been last year when I got no interviews.

You shouldn't get mad at all. There's a lot more that goes into being a qualified applicant besides just GPA and MCAT score. I have a great GPA and not so great MCAT, but I got 4 interviews this year. Stop worrying about others and concentrate on your own application.

The whole point of this thread is worrying about others. I think it is perfectly reasonable for someone to mad, jealous or in some way upset when they feel they are just as qualified or maybe more qualified than someone who was chosen. Nothing personal against the people in this thread who have been accepted and I wasn't implying that anybody should be mad at them. I do know that there are people out there who are wondering why they haven't been given a chance yet and I was trying to give them an opportunity to vent.

This might be the judgmental, demeaning attitude and sense of entitlement that adcoms see on you "more qualified" applicants. Get over it.

The point of this thread is to give us sub-30 MCATers hope that schools may look beyond these numbers... it is not meant to worry anyone

I concur. BTW, I like your avatar. I saw the guy in the picture on TV yesterday in an interview. 🙂

I completely agree. No one is saying that having a high MCAT is a bad thing. I think if we all had the choice we would choose to have higher MCAT scores. But this isn't reality. So I think its only fitting to let others with sub 30 MCATs know that they have a shot too and that just because you don't have a 30 or above on your MCAT doesn't mean you can't get into medical school and become a great doctor. SDN threads are here to help premeds not discourage them. We all know the struggles of getting into medical school. Lets not make it more stressful or difficult by discouraging those with sub 30 MCATs.

The point of this thread is to provide support to other people with low mcat scores who may be a little down about that particular aspect of their application. I don't think that by virtue of having a higher mcat, you are better qualified, and I'm glad all adcoms don't think this way either.

29Q, GPA< 3.5, BCPM<3.4, interviews at University of Cincinnati and UCONN

I find it ironic that you base qualifications off a thread that is dedicated to MCAT scores. It says nothing about the other areas of their applications. Are you going to get mad when there is a thread about having little clinical experience? Low gpa's? No publications? Come on, get real. There are so many more aspects to someone's application than just their MCAT score there is no logical reason someone with a 33 is more qualified to be a doctor than someone with a 29 or even a 26 for that matter. Try arguing your point to the applicant who has been conducting research for the better part of a decade and has obtained more NIH funding for their program than most of your current professors. Are you going to say they won't make a great doctor because they had to be tested on gen chem? Really? I would suggest that their knowledge gained through life and research is going to be more useful to them as a doctor than mastering some physics formulas to get a perfect score of 15 on the physical sciences section.

On a happier note, good luck to everyone and congrats on those who have interviews and especially those with acceptances!!!!

Sorry, didn't mean to hurt anyones feelings in any way and I wasn't trying to say anything bad about MCAT's below 30. I think we all understand that the difference between a 27 and a 30 could be just 3 questions. Good luck to you all.

Below 30 MCAT, 3.6 GPA, and I didn't apply early....and I already have an acceptance to Tulane Med. Schools really do care about what else you bring to the table - I have many unique experiences and had a fabulous interview. It. Makes. A. Difference.

Hang in there. 🙂

Congrats Bandu and thanks for the inspiration!! 😀

hey everyone,

I posted earlier in this thread. I have a 27R (8, 10, 9) with a 3.63O/3.58SGPA and am a non-URM.

I just had my first interview yesterday. The school had 2 interviews actually. The first was open-file and the 2nd was closed-file. I was waiting for them to ask me about my MCAT score. That was the question I was dreading the most actually...

Well, it looks like what ppl say about being on relatively equal ground as everyone else once you get the interview is correct. No one brought up my MCAT. No one brought up my GPA, either. So, there ya go. Once you get that interview, stop fretting! Good luck.

I have a high GPA and a 29 MCAT (12 PS 10 BS 7 VR), I've had 6 interviews. I have great ECs and LORs. I am not mad, jealous, or in some way upset that I am not accepted and someone with a 27 got in, because there is more to the application than the MCAT. Not to mention WHEN you submitted is very important also. Qualification goes beyond the numbers, and as long as you ignore this FACT then yes you will continue to be mad, jealous, and upset that you haven't gotten an acceptance. I wish you luck as I do everyone else who has worked their ass off to get to this point. :hardy:

28, 3.4/3.3

UMD 10/27
Morehouse 12/5
EVMS 12/12
Drexel 1/7
Meharry 1/12

29O...Got my first acceptance a few hours ago!
Hang in there guys, if I can get in, so can you!! :luck:

I absolutely echo this sentiment!! 29S, 3rd time applicant (that's right), 2 interviews so far and one acceptance. I applied two months earlier than last cycle and the difference has been significant. Don't be discouraged-there ARE schools that see beyond the quantitative measures. Dedication pays off. Don't give up!

3.2/28S allopathic interviews: Morehouse 9/26, FIU 10/10, and was invited for Meharry this week but decided not to go. Acceptance at FIU.

Agreed! Hang in there! 29R, interviews at 3 MD schools so far, one hold, one acceptance, and the other interview is still approaching. There's hope! 🙂

27 MCAT (3.66 OA, 3.44 sGPA)

I have 3 MD interviews so far - 1 IS, 2 OOS

It is possible keep fighting!

Well just thought I would update and say ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

I got my first acceptance today!

29P Accepted to TCOM & Texas Tech! There is hope for us <30 applicants.

28N with 4 DO Interviews and 0 MD Interviews.

Doesn't matter to me though =P, medical school is medical school.

Congrats everyone! < 30 MCATers kick ass!

Interview #3 .... Colorado. And, yes, I'm instate.

I had a 27Q (I froze during PS section) and was devistated w/ my score. I didn't have time to retake the MCAT before this application year, so I had to make a choice whether or not to apply with that score or to take the MCAT again and apply next year. I decided to go ahead and apply (finished secondaries mid Sept-early Oct).

Results so far:
3 interviews
1 hold
2 rejects

(haven't heard back from the rest of the schools)

I've been out of undergrad for 5 years and I have amazing work experience in medical research, international health policy and epidemiology. I've lived abroad twice, have an MPH and have taken on many leadership roles.

There's a lot more to being a doctor than MCAT and GPA. My interviewer even told me his stats were lower than mine when he applied to med school and now he's a cardiologist.

Don't listen to the people on here who say you can never get in. If you are an interesting person and show a dedication to medicine, then the adcoms will see it.

Hey, I have no legacy ties am not disadvantaged nor a minority student.
29 MCAT Just got my second interview invite today at UCLA! 3.6ish GPA Post-bac student with bachelor's of fine art from NYU. First time applicant. I am so stoked! There's hope for us all!

Count me in.

29Q re-applicant.

Got an interview on Tuesday from GW.

How can I not post on this thread??

27R - reapplicant.

A few allopathic and osteopathic interviews so far, and still counting 😛

Good for you RennyKim, I tried clicking on your MD apps link but I think the site is down. Mind sharing where your interviews are at? I remember back about a month ago you and I were both bummed that we weren't getting any love. Now I have UCLA and Western under my belt =)

Wow, wednster, congrats!! That is excellent news 😀

So far I've interviewed at both University of Arizona campuses for allopathic programs and was just invited to Creighton yesterday.

For osteopathic, I've been invited to LECOM and AZCOM, but unfortunately, their scheduling is horrible and I can't get earlier than Feb for either place, so hopefully I'll hear something good from the other schools by then. On a more positive note, I've only received one osteopathic rejection so far (compared to the higher numbers of allopathic rejections 😛) and it was from TCOM, which I understand only takes 10-12 out of state applicants due to state law.

wow, you got an interview to Creighton with a 27. good to know, maybe I have a chance. are you a URM if you don't mind me asking? pssh you don't even live close to Creighton and they invited you! nice, though 🙂

Are you an in-state applicant in CA?

27 with a 3.3 (strong upward trend) 2 MD interviews (FSU and FIU with no news from about 5 other MD schools yet..others have gotten rejections though) I also have had or been offered interviews at NSU, LECOM-B, AZCOM, Touro-CA, KCOM, PCOM-GA, LMU-DCOM. I'll probably have one more interview before the end of the season...I hope.

Important to note that my MCAT wasn't low because I didn't know the stuff. I had some serious events happen before each one. Every time I go to take the MCAT, a person dies two days before that is close to me. So, I'm going to avoid it. I also have tons of solid leadership, multiple study abroad programs, and lots and lots of other stuff.

In-state. UCLA is about a 15 minute drive from my apt.

Haha no not URM, but a non-trad with a career change, although I don't consider 23 to be that old 😛 Thanks rocketbooster, and I hope you hear some good news soon too!!

29O Interviewed and accepted. Did not even apply that early.

1st MCAT: 26P

Reapplicant

2nd MCAT: 28M

BCPM: 3.63

4 Allo Interviews
1 Osteo Interview

1 ALL🙂 Acceptance so far....

My stats are not outstanding. I graduated from a mediocre school with a 3.45 and a BA in Justice, Law, and Society. I worked for a little over a year as a paralegal before deciding that I could have a more postive effect in this world as a physician. I went back school and took the bare minimum in pre-reqs and earned a 3.77 over 40 credits in science. I did everything in my power to make myself the best applicant I could be, but knew that my 26P would hinder me. I applied and did NOT get in.

I studied for the MCAT while working full time as a medical technician, retook the MCAT and only scored 2 points higher. I thought I was doomed but I put one foot in front of the other and this time next year I will be a medical student. Regardless of what happens to you all this cycle...and I hope everyone gets in because this country needs physicians....just stay focused on your goal and continue to improve on the weak areas of your application. I have faith that anyone who truly wants to be a physician will eventually reach thier goal.

Good luck to everyone still waiting for some action.

Congrats! Drexel put me on pre-interview hold... not sure how that will turn out but from what I have read it is pretty much a rejection 🙁

Thank you for your application. Your file has been reviewed and will be re-evaluated later in the season for a final decision.

29N with 3.71 GPA. had lots of EC's

2 interviews, one acceptance, one waiting to hear back from. reapplicant but only reapplied to a few schools (the one i got accepted at being one of them). finished secondaries between mid-july and early august.

got straight up rejected from a few (like within a few weeks of finishing secondaries) and have about 10 schools waiting to hear something from.

good luck to everyone who is still waiting. coming from a reapplicant, its not the end of the world if you don't get in your first time. persistence is very attractive!

how long did it take to hear from fsu? I applied with a 29M 3.6 ogpa and sgpa. I had to call them for them to realize that they received my letters of recommendation🙁 they found them though and i got an email last week saying my file was complete. as far as all my other MD schools (pretty much all the ones in florida minus UM) the files have been complete for a month about and still no news. im hopeful though

FINALLY received my first interview invite (I applied a bit late, 9/13 MCAT) with Boston University.
29N.
Keep your hopes up.
