Hey all,

I'm anxiously awaiting my letter from the OHSU peeps, too. Any idea of when they'll tell us wait list ranks and what number on the list they've gone down to in the past? (That is, if I get a waitlist letter...better than a rejection in some ways, worse in other ways...)

Thanks!

I'm might be totally mistaken, but I think they tell you in the letter. If not, the admissions office should know your rank already, so I wouldn't be afraid to call and find out.

Yeah, I think my life might actually be easier if I either get rejected or get a low spot on the waitlist, so I'll know to move on. Being 70 or so on the waitlist would be torture.

Amen to that. Any ideas on how low is too low?

Love your avatar, BTW.

In the past 3-4 years they have gotten to at least #60 (based on the older threads on here). Last year they got to #96, but that might have been an unusual year since there was a funding issue and tuition was slated to be a lot higher. If I am not in the top 60, which might be tough if there are 200-250 people on the list, I'll be making back up plans for next year. I am also worried since it seems like everyone (on here) who has been accepted is planning to attend. Last year's thread had a lot more people that were on the fence or planning to withdraw. Oh well, it is out of my hands at this point....
If anyone calls to find out their rank they should post!
:luck: :luck: :luck:

Thanks, Star22. :luck: :luck: :luck: to you, too!!! 🙂

Bumpity bump.

hmmm, i haven't heard anything since the post-interview hold back in december... oh well. bump.

People should start hearing this week. I believe they have made SOME decisions... at least that's what I was told. They said, starting last Thursday they would START mailing out decisions, and end on this Thursday. We should all have something in our mailboxes by May 15th. This is going to be a long week... hehe. Good luck all.

I talked to Caryln this morning and she stated that the admissions committee is going to meet one more time this week and decisions will be mailed at the end of the week. In short, we get to wait right up until the deadline. She also said that they have not taken anybody off the hold pool so there seems to be some conflicting info with Debbie and Caryln. I'm just waiting to seem if I'm off to the corn fields of Iowa or staying in my home state. Also, I think I am beginning to display some symptoms of OCD. 😱

 me too!
Thanks for the info!
Did she mention if they still need to accept people to fill the class (some posts here sound like the class might already be full, others sound like they still need to accept ~50 people to fill the class), or are they just meeting to rank the wait list?

OMG I am chewing my fingernails😱...especially b/c I'm trying to decide whether or not to leave my honey in Oregon behind 🙁 ....good vibes to all!!

All she said was that they had not taken any one off of hold yet.

So they usually meet on Thursday, right? Does that mean nothing will mail prior to Friday? I was getting excited about hearing something this week, but it looks like that won't happen.

Doesn't surprise me that there's conflicting information. Debbie has encouraged me to call her each month, saying she might have information she never ends up having. It's possible she was trying to appease me this whole time so that I wouldn't think the OHSU office was slower than molasses. She only frustrated me more in the end. I get the feeling that she doesn't want me to think that their office just simply waits until the last minute... which they are doing. I personally believe that they won't send out stuff until Friday. It makes no sense that they would be mailing stuff out all week now that I think about it. They either have the list made or they don't, period, and will likely send out all the letters on one day. Looks like we are not going to get stuff in the mail until the 15th. I, personally, am going to call the office Thursday afternoon and find out my rank on the phone.

I think I'm going to do that, too. I'm actually sort of tempted to call today just to see exactly when the adcom meets?

I need to remember to be nice to Carolyn because I doubt she has anything to do with how slow the office is. Unfortunately for her, she probably has to deal with taking cr@p from applicants for the adcoms slowness -- I've been in similar situations at work, and all I can say is that it sucks.

editing to add that I don't have a lot of faith in info from Debbie -- her name was on the hold letter I received, and it had wrong information about the dates interviews were conducted.

Hi guys

I've kind of been following this thread......I hope you hear good news soon! :luck:

Thanks!

Have you heard (maybe from the student callers) if a whole class has been accepted yet, or if they are really planning to accept a group of people from the hold pool before they make the WL?

Okay, so I'm going to go into drama mode again here, but I cannot think anything good about OHSU if they don't accept anyone directly from the hold list. If they made all their offers before they get to the hold, then that would mean they specifically and blatantly lied to us on our interview day. If hold means waitlist, they should say that.

exlawgrrl said:

That's a good point. Still, I would assume they mean hold when they say hold. The trouble is their definition of hold. They certainly are cutting it close by not having sent out letters yet.

I agree. I have no idea either way (except for what people post here), I just got really nervous to hear that they have a list of acceptees that has been given out to student callers. To me that sounds like they may have accepted everyone, which means that they weren't very forthcoming with any of us.... but maybe I'm wrong.

I think that they haven't lied to us all though it definetly seems to be the case. I'm guessing that they haven't reviewed all of the interviews they conducted through late march and early april. Remember, they had 70 files to review a week ago and as we have all experienced, they are not very speedy. Or, we can all expect a waitlist spot or a refuse letter. 👎

Just to clarify things... Student callers only have a list of people who were directly accepted after interview and have not yet confirmed that they will be matriculating at OHSU. This is nothing to freak out about.

I haven't gotten a list of people to call regarding acceptances....in fact, I know absolutely nothing about the incoming class....sorry guys! 😳

Did anyone who interviewed later in the cycle at OHSU get a letter saying anything yet? My interview was really late--April 11, and I haven't heard anything since then...I wasn't sure if I should be worried.

I have a friend who interviewed on April 12. She hasn't heard anything yet either. Based on what I've heard from admissions, I believe your file will be reviewed this Thursday. I don't think it's a bad thing that you haven't heard yet.

I called today again, and whoever I talked to (I don't remember if she said her name) said, "We recently sent out some rejections, so if you didn't get one you're probably on the alternate list, and those letters will be sent out Friday."

That means it won't be here before May 15 (especially for oos)! 😱

I love your phrasing here. 🙂 I'm still just having trouble believing that they do this every year. No wonder they don't like me -- my job requires pretty intensive customer service, and they don't believe in that crazy stuff. 🙄

So does this mean that star's speculation is correct, and all the hold people are either getting rejected or waitlisted? If so, I'm pretty disgusted.

I'm not positive, but that's what it sounded like... I wanted to say, "Wait, isn't getting an acceptance still an option?!" 🙁

Well, that's too bad. Thanks for posting the info, though. Maybe I'll get my nerve up and call tomorrow -- I've got to admit, I just don't want to get bad news over the phone.

Just curious -- would you go to OHSU over Arizona? I love Oregon, but OHSU's tuition is pretty steep.

Yeah, it can't beat the in-state tuition, but OHSU is just overall a better school, and my family used to live there (dad did his opthomology residency at OHSU) and I just love the area. I'm willing to take out the extra loans for somewhere I think I'll fit in better... and frankly, I can't take this heat anymore. It will be close to 100 degrees tomorrow, and it's the beginning of May!

I hate heat, too, so I can get that. 🙂 I was so miserable living in Texas, and the weather is one of my favorite things about PDX.

Is there anyone (besides me) still waiting who doesn't have any acceptances yet?

I interviewed April 6th. Haven't heard anything....

An email last week let me know that they have received enough deposits to warrant 70% of the full class. They were surprised by the amount of 'qualified applicants' this year, and my understanding is that usually they have fewer acceptances at this time of year, with the bulk of acceptances coming this week.
Good luck to everyone, and remember they have taken many (>80) off the waitlist in the past.
Oh, BTW for those who are applying next year to OHSU, be ready to give them everything you have in the interview, as your application closes a couple of weeks after, and any additions, including a letter of intent, don't change your score.

How are you in a position to be getting emails letting you know 70% of the class is full and already holding their spots? Do you work at OHSU?

Actually, I don't believe anything I hear anymore.... I called this morning to ask about the hold list and they told me they would make decisions this week. When I asked if anyone would be directly admitted or all would be put onto the waitlist she said "that is what we are trying to figure out" 🙁
I find that pretty lame.

Sorry. 🙁 I'm wishing you the best of luck. :luck: I think all premeds should just leave Oregon and move to a state that actually cares about admitting instate people.

On another rant, I wish OHSU would stop using the word "qualified" because their admissions obviously aren't about being qualified -- they just look at whether or not you meet their subjective wishes. That's cool, but using the term "qualified" gets pretty d@mn insulting because it implies that people who aren't admitted aren't qualified.

I agree, it kind of puts a bad taste in your mouth. I wonder if oregonian premeds that have went through the "not qualified at OHSU" process and went to medical schools out of state decide to come back and finish there residency training at OHSU. I guess oregon hospitals will just have to keep bringing in the doctors that don't speak good english and graduated from the University of Cairo.

I'm sure plenty of people try to come back to do residencies here. That's my plan right now. Not only are they accepting less state residents, but they are cancelling the 3rd year transfer program starting this next school year. So, my only shot at coming back would be residencies. My family is here, my fiancee's family is here, lifelong friends are here... those are strong reasons to come back, and I bet a lot of in-staters rejected from OHSU have similar situations.

This stat seems a little suspicious, as OHSU doesn't require a deposit.

Sorry, did not mean to cause more confusion, I am an applicant too. I just asked how many spots were left, and an admissions person said 70% of the class is full. You can interpret that however you want, but I interpreted it as 70% of the available slots, i.e. a total of 112, are full. However, last year they accepted ~220. Good luck everyone.

OK, this, combined with a few other comments, is making more sense now. This is pretty much what OHSU has been saying from the beginning. What I believe this means is that OHSU has OFFERED 70% of the class acceptances. They still need to offer 30% of their spots. That seems to go along with what they've been saying, that they would slowly offer spots as interviews went on, and finish filling the class in May. An above poster said that OHSU couldn't say if they were going to accept people directly from the hold list or not... which tells me they are still reviewing interview candidates who have not even been given a hold letter (probably people who interviewed in April.) So, there is no way to know from this information, just how many of those 70% are actually going to attend OHSU. There are 120 spots, so about 80 or so of them have been offered (key word), they will need to offer 40 more, and then the rest of us are on the waitlist or rejected. Sounds about right.

Yes, this is entirely consistent with what I was told in March. At the time they had given 35 acceptances, and had about 200 applications yet to review (including those who had not yet interviewed at that time). They indicated that they would probably offer about the same number of additional acceptances throughout the remainder of the interview season, to applicants who's admission scores were above the cutoff. Since they can't say how many people will be above the cutoff, the numbers are only rough estimates.

The remainder of the class will be filled out from the hold pool. How many, if any, people are drawn initially from the hold pool depends on how many applicants fell above the score cutoff. They won't know that until they have reviewed all the applications and assigned scores, which I was told will happen this Thursday. I think someone wanted to know if getting accepted from the hold pool is possible. I asked that question directly and was told "Yes, it is a possibility." I don't think they are trying to jerk us around. I think they just can't say how many people will be accepted from the hold pool yet.

Shhh... she doesn't even know yet... I'm going to ask this week, but the opportunity hasn't arisen yet. She's already told me she wants to move to the east coast with me if I have to go to U.Va. I'd rather that she move with me as my fiancee than as my girlfriend.. 🙂. I had no idea you read the pre-med boards on here. Don't tell anyone or it'll get to her before I even ask her, hehe.

I think we may have to start a Weebs fiancee acceptance thread. This could be fun. So Weebs, obviously you think your chances are good. Hopefully you won't end up on the alternate list! Give us the details of your application process... 😀

Haha. Nice.

Well, so far her acceptance rate has been 0%, so, the data is not good. However, the last applicant was a law student...

Update, 2:30 PM, From the admissions Office:

The committee is meeting on Thursday to make their final decisions. Letters will go out Friday. We'll all receive letters early next week. Nothing new will be mailed out until Friday so we can all take a break from those stressfull trips to the mailbox for a few days.

Good luck, everybody.
