Update, 2:30 PM, From the admissions Office:

The committee is meeting on Thursday to make their final decisions. Letters will go out Friday. We'll all receive letters early next week. Nothing new will be mailed out until Friday so we can all take a break from those stressfull trips to the mailbox for a few days.

Good luck, everybody.

Hmmm... OHSU can save their paper because I'm not waiting. Some of us have lives to plan... Hope they enjoy getting 100+ phone calls on Thursday afternoon. It's their own fault.

(exlawgrrl's gonna smack me around for this... :scared: )

I have been doing lots of kickboxing recently, so yeah, you better watch out. 🙂 Actually, I didn't like most law students when I was in law school, so knock on. 😉

You're ruthless! 😉 But I second the motion--call on!

I really am a nice person. I swear 😱 This is my 3rd time applying. I guess we all have our breaking points...

Hey all-- I came home today to a nice thin rejection letter from OHSU! Disappointing, but I guess it is better than missing an acceptance by one spot on the waitlist! Good luck to the rest of you! :luck:

BTW: They said that they interviewed 421 people for 112 positions.

I hear you, Weebs....

The committee meeting is from noon to 2:00PM on Thursday. I'll be calling at 2:30.

Ahh, that sucks. 🙁 I'm sorry you got that and that you've had to wait so long. It sounds like this year is both unpredictable and more competitive than normal.

I'm so sorry! Did you apply anywhere else that might still be a possibility?

I am still on two other waitlist that don't look promising.... but it is kind of my own fault, I should have applied more broadly. Plus I really didn't have enough clinical experience by OHSU's standards. :luck:

Only 112? They said they were expanding the class to 120 this year...

I heard they were expanding to 112 from either 108 or 106 with a future goal of eventually expanding to 120...

They reported on AMCAS that OHSU had 120 spots this year. It was also reported in the Oregonian they were expanding to 120. I was also told by Debbie Milton that it would be at least 116, most likely 120. Why is so much conflicting information out there about this school? Now I'm hearing 112, which means they didn't expand the class at all (it was 112 last year). That makes a big difference as to what your number on the waitlist really means. A bit disconcerting.

At my interview (4/7), the dean told us that they would be expanding the class size to at least 116, probably 120. Maybe they still haven't decided???

Since they had the wrong interview dates on my hold letter, and I wouldn't be surprised if the denial letter has sa wrong number. Most likely, they reuse letters and forget to update new information.

I've seen quotes on the AAMC websight about OHSU expanding their class size to 120 this year so I could see exlawgirls point.

bumping because we've fallen to the bottom of the second page. Well, tomorrow's the big day. My husband's out of town until late Saturday, so I guess I'll be alone no matter what the news I get is.

Did any of you apply to the MD/MPH program? I heard that if you are OOS and you apply to their joint program they will put you in the pile in-state applicants

Considering being instate gives you only a marginal advantage, it shouldn't make much of a difference. The story is that they give some slight preference to instate applicants in granting interviews, but that's it.

Bummer! I'm sorry to hear that! Where are you headed then? Univ. Cinc? I liked that school a lot. Got waitlisted though...

Umm.. you have a sweet screenname and avatar. Solid.

That's where I'm heading, as of now. Cinci is a nice school and I kind of like it more than OHSU. But I'm from the west coast and prefer not moving that far. I'm on waitlists for 4 top20 schools. If I get into one of those, I'll go to those.

Just out of curiousity, how in the world do you know that I'm accepted to Cinci??? Do you search me up? 😱 I don't like to put my stats and list of schools on mdapplicants for fear that adcoms might read it and affect their decisions. I'm surprised that you actually know where I'm accepted.

I did (MD/MPH candidate, OOS, URM), though I've been "on hold" since January... and the waiting continues...

"kalena kai"...thats the name of a hawaiian slack key guitar song. I want to say keola beamer did it. no? What does that mean? sorry soo off topic!

hahaha, that's so funny... you're the first one on here to recognize that. there's actually a song called "O Kalena Kai," which happens to be one of my hawaiian grandfather's favorite songs. i'm sure there are slack key guitar versions of this song out there. anyway, he gave me my hawaiian middle name (kalenakai). it can also be translated as "golden sea" or "golden reflection of the sun off the ocean surface." okay, i'm done.

I'm guessing he looked at your previous posts, which I've got to confess to doing, too. I'm just trying to get an idea of what OHSU is looking for -- I've yet to get one, though. 🙂 Anyway, I'm really sorry about the rejection.

Just my recollection, I think from the University of Cinc. class thread. I was poking around there because I'm on the waitlist. I just remember a post you made somewhere indicating you were in there. Don't freak out! 😱

What number are you calling?

Carolyn: 503-494-5950
Debbie: 503-494-6643
Dr. Cindy Morris (Head of Admissions Committee):503-494-3262

Take your pick. I'm calling Carolyn. If you're really brave, call Dr. Morris!!

They actually tell you anything? I don't wanna call and get a "Nobody has been moved off of the hold list" response... That might just make me upset.

I know that's what I'm worried about, too. I'm a coward and waiting for the first caller to report back. 😳

If they have indeed made final decisions today in their meeting (ie more acceptances, waitlist positions, etc) they should be able to tell you over the phone. A while back I called to check my status post interview and they were able to tell me of my acceptance. I think if a decision has been made on your file (even if it's just a waitlist position) they should be able to tell you over the phone. However if no decision has been made yet, then they will likely give you the generic/annoying "we don't know" answer. Good luck to you all...I hope to see you up there this fall!

Why do the students call?

I don't think they actually do. I haven't had a call (unless they called the wrong number or something) and I was accepted 2 months ago.

I just called (2:52) and they said they were "in the process of ranking."

Dr. Weebs said:
Doesn't surprise me that there's conflicting information. Debbie has encouraged me to call her each month, saying she might have information she never ends up having. It's possible she was trying to appease me this whole time so that I wouldn't think the OHSU office was slower than molasses. She only frustrated me more in the end. I get the feeling that she doesn't want me to think that their office just simply waits until the last minute... which they are doing. I personally believe that they won't send out stuff until Friday. It makes no sense that they would be mailing stuff out all week now that I think about it. They either have the list made or they don't, period, and will likely send out all the letters on one day. Looks like we are not going to get stuff in the mail until the 15th. I, personally, am going to call the office Thursday afternoon and find out my rank on the phone.

I have been emailing Ms. Zook and she says that letters will be sent out to the "hold pool" THIS Friday.

I figured that might be the case. Are they stuck in the stone ages or something? If it really is just a simple numerical score that determines your position.. It can't be that difficult to rank. Put numbers into computer, computer spits out list in numerical order. Give list to secretaries and adcoms.. if students call, tell them their rank. Shouldn't be long before they have the list. I think I'll try at 3:30.

Computers? I've never heard of such things. 🙄

An email last week let me know that they have received enough deposits to warrant 70% of the full class. They were surprised by the amount of 'qualified applicants' this year, and my understanding is that usually they have fewer acceptances at this time of year, with the bulk of acceptances coming this week.
Good luck to everyone, and remember they have taken many (>80) off the waitlist in the past.
Oh, BTW for those who are applying next year to OHSU, be ready to give them everything you have in the interview, as your application closes a couple of weeks after, and any additions, including a letter of intent, don't change your score.

Deposits? What? They didn't ask me for a deposit . . . they told me that my spot was mine as long as I didn't tell them otherwise (I was worried that they didn't ask me for anything to hold the place so I called and bugged them about it). So . . . where are you getting your information? What was the text of the email? I'm really curious.

I second the LOI suggestion -- don't send it AFTER the interview, send it BEFORE. I sent mine with the secondary app.

I'm gonna be like #150 on the waitlist anyways... so this is merely rhetoric.. hehe.

I just called Carolyn. She said she couldn't tell me anything and to wait for a letter. I am not waiting for a letter. What's Debbie's email? Could you PM it to me? Thanks man. And congratulations on getting in!!
