Hi, I am a 3rd year nursing student trying to go to medical school, hopefully in 3 years.

Unlike other nursing students, I did not apply for any nursing internships for this coming summer, because I am taking summer classes for pre-reqs which I do not have time for to take with my nursing courses in regular academic semesters.

Meanwhile, I am also working as a scribe at a local hospital in ED and on floors with hospitalists.

I know I will have to do some shadowing this summer...

But what else can I do as a premed?
research?
volunteer?? if so, where and what kind?
or even working as a patient care tech? ---> would this help?

What did you guys do to make yourself stand out in the applications?

Thank you

I've been talking to someone about going to China for a shadow program. It seems pretty neat. It's a two week program and you can go anytime. Something you might be interested in?

This is a bad idea and a waste of money. Shadow American physicians in the United States, where you want to go to med school. Northwell in Long Island has a summer shadowing program. Perhaps reach out to local hospitals and med schools - or just call random physician offices.

This program is really just for personal enrichment more than anything. I am just entertaining the idea of doing a two-week program. I have always wanted to travel to China and I think this is a cool way of doing it.
