Anyone else with no interviews? o_O

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

it's a term. when u think somebody is too good to be real.

They are real. UNC and Duke students are known to do real well on the MCAT. I believe it was Peterock who said he knew 5 people who got a 40 on their MCAT in a single year at Duke when he was there. Goldwater scholarships are also something he mentioned a lot of students out there get at Duke and UNC. He said something along those lines.

But again, I don't think its fair to insinuate people are liars. This poster seems quite genuine.

I believe the only reason they are without interviews is because they just got the scores back. I know at Florida schools, the earliest was December for USF for August MCAT test takers. Last fall, a lot of SDN people got interviews in November some time. Not saying its not possible to get them earlier, but most got them later. Its just the unfair disadvantage of taking an August MCAT. Had this poster been a earlier applicant, I'm sure they would have gotten interviews by now.

Heh, this thread exemplifies how neurotic we pre-med people are.

Still here. Hopefully this week will be better than my one rejection last week! So if that counts, then I do have a good feeling about this week. 🙂 Good luck!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone! Best of luck :luck: :luck: :luck:

Hi Folks,
Just to inject a bit of reality into this thread: October 17, 2005

It is still pretty early. Most schools have just finished with the Early Decision folks. They have probably reviewed and sorted most of the April MCAT applications and are starting on the August MCAT applications. Things are shuffling around and interview invites should be going out pretty soon.

The school that I screen for has received over 3,000 applications for 110 slots. We will generally invite about 500 people for interview and offer slots to about 250-300. We waitlist very few people. We also have rolling admissions so we will keep inviting folks for interview until the class is filled and static.

Many interview sessions start up in November and go through March and April. If it were the end of April, and no interview invitations, I would advise folks to have a very solid "Plan B" ready to execute. At this point, you should have a Plan B but stay away from the mailbox if it is making you neurotic.

The length of time that passes between your application being complete and your interview invitation has nothing to do with acceptance. You can interview late and still be accepted so chill. All things being equal, you will probably start seeing interview invites in the next couple of week. If not, don't lose heart, you still have some time.

If you cannot resist adding more schools, then do so now. Many schools have application deadlines like December 15th so don't wait until the last minute.

Good luck and start obsessing about your Plan B. The more elaborate your Plan B, the greater your chances of acceptance.

njbmd 🙂
August MCAT, interviews from November to April; accepted at six out of six schools.

Thank you for this post. It put things in perspective. I was getting a little freaked out with only having one interview. I am going to take it easy and focus on the White Sox in the World Series for a couple weekes instead of this process. Until the next invite, it's all out of my hands! 🙂

Ok so, quick question (I figure this is the best board to ask it on!!).

So I have no interviews yet (was complete at most schools about a month ago) and am starting to think about Plan B (because I'm not sure of my chances anyway, even without the lack of interviews!). I have a pretty solid plan already in action... actually am in the process of applying to a few post-bacc/master's programs. Should I say that in an interview, if they ask "what will you do if you don't get into medical school?". I mean, would it be bad if they know that I am already in the process of applying ... would it be better if I just say that is what I "plan to do"? I just don't know if they will think that I'm already considering myself defeated if I say I'm already applying - but the thing is I took my MCAT in '04, so I just want to start my Plan B as quickly as possible if I DON'T get in, so that I can reapply with the same MCAT...

hmmm
Thanks in advance for advice!

i think you can be honest without sounding "defeated." you should just tell them truthfully that you are dedicated to becoming a doctor and that if you don't get in you are willing to get some honest feedback and improve yourself as an applicant, even if that means spending time and money by enrolling in a post-bac program. there's nothing wrong with that, and it will show you are being persistent about your goals.

i second this advice, i think it shows you are persistent, willing to work, and that you are taking initiative to improve your application/weak areas... good luck with the current process though, it's still early!

Thanks you two 🙂 If I ever get any interviews (*crosses fingers*) I will go with your advice!

Right. I think it's still too early to give up hope. I think your MCAT scores are decent enough to make up for your sub-par GPA. Hone your interviewing skills, because you want to be ready for interviews when they do come. 🙂

Good luck~ :luck:

Thanks njbmd! That's just what I needed to hear 🙂

Are you at UVA? If so, do you do lots of hiking at Shenandoah National Park? It's probably one of my most favorite places in the world.

I felt confident Sunday but this morning is a different story. I am pretty sure that BU mailed out the rejection notice...so no interviews from there. Also, Upstate is not looking too good either....seriously doubt whether I would go anywhere but rejected from the hold status. Got Indiana rejection the other day as well. So, how you feeling this week?

So kimka, are you planning to drop your goldwater? It doesn't cover the MD, does it?

So why the continual attacks on kimka83????????

I don't think its really any of our business what they do with their scholarships. I actually talked to them through PM, and they told me why they applied to soooooo many schools, but I'll leave it up to them to decide whether to answer that question to the rest of you all.

You all,

Good luck. If things don't work out this year, there's always ways to improve your app. however, I think there's a great chance still, because interviews go til March or April.

Geeze folks, this is supposed to a supportive thread. It's a non-discriminatory club that reluctantly accepts any and all members. I really don't feel like reading through all the attacks that's been posted the last page or so.

Can't we just ignore and this and go back to self-pity and nurturing our insecurities in a civil manner?

Aack, prana left herself logged in at work - the above post was me.

Uggh...another day...another disappointment....nothing. I don't get what's taking so long...just yes or no. I swear to God, Adcoms are only second to Kerry on making a decision (Zing!!!). And how the hell to schools that have no web status page, and does not encourage phone calls are supposed to give status info? I am looking at you Stony and Downstate...yeah e-mail us and we'll send you a generic, prepared, your file is complete and has entered the screening process response...yeah I know my file is complete and under review...it's been like this for the last 2+ months. Like the US Army, I got a slogan for Med Schools, "Become a doctor, get an ulcer". Sorry, if this post is not too informative and is basically a rant, I really feel like calling up the schools and screaming "hurry the **** up".

We now return you to your regular posts, already is progress…

aw man! that sucks sorry to hear it

Oh man I had the saddest waking-up today that I've had in a while.
I had this rando dream last night in which I got four interview invites in one day! They were super random too... Columbia (didn't even apply there!), Yale (way out of my reach!), South Dakota (WTF??), and Vienna (doesn't even exist, I must've made it up). Anyway I was soooooo excited, obvi, and then I woke up and was so sad 🙁 that it wasn't true...
To make matters worse my roommate got three more interview invites yesterday (she's already been accepted!)
Good grief will the torture never end!? Interview me please! I swear I'm nice!

Pepper,

That really does suck. I know how real dreams can feel. I think that you should get off SDN, stay away from email, and just stick to living life simply. Reading, eating, spending time with friends. They will come when they are meant to and it is still WAY early. You're really putting too much pressure on yourself and it won't be healthy for you in the long run.

Just to let you know, I cried about every other day about two weeks ago, when I had no interviews. A week later, I found myself with one from a reach school and then got another one a week later. Although they made me really happy, I feel like they were flukes and I still won't get in, regardless of if I interview well or not. It's a really crazy, vicous cycle.

Right now, I am still working on my confidence/self-esteem issues and think that I won't get any more. Thankfully my interviews are in like 3 weeks, which is hopefully enough time to build up my confidence again. If you're really getting worked up about it, stop yourself and think. This is not healthy. For you or for your friends or family, and your health is of prime importance. (Especially since you want to become a doctor! 😛 )

Feel better, you are a wonderful candidate (I am sure)!!

not even hopes for interview. 🙁

Hey Pepper.

If I had a dream like yours, I'd never wake up.
