My interview for Oklahoma State is on the 29th and I am so nervous. I know how I feel about euthanasia, ear cropping/tail docking, all that stuff. I am fairly well read and know about the world around me. The only thing I am afraid of is that my grades just aren't that great. Anyone have any advice, or interviewed at OSU before? This is the only school I applied to (I know, bad idea, but my grades weren't good enough to send out of state). I am a guy, and a resident of Oklahoma so I think that will help. Anything else?

You can't change your grades at this point, so just do well in your interview. And be HONEST about your answers. I applied last year and this year as an OOS for OK State, and they don't interview us!! We don't hear anything at all until the end of March! Good luck on your interview and check out the interview feedback thread....someone may have posted there which will give you more information about specifics of interviews at OK.

Good luck!! :luck:

I know it's near impossible, but don't get too nervous for your interview. 🙂 The adcoms are just regular people, a good interview is a lot like a good conversation.

A lot of people have been giving me advice on interviews in general -- one bit of advice that has been helpful for me is to think that you're talking to your parent's friends. If you're talking to your parent's friends, you'd be polite and well spoken. They're not scary and they'd just like to get to know you better.

Besides, look on the bright side. They're interviewing you! That means they've seen your grades and they like you anyways! If they didn't like you at all, you wouldn't have gotten this chance. So you've impressed them and they would like to meet you. Now that's pretty cool, right? You've got one foot in the door!

good luck at your interview. OkSU is a great school! Don't be nervous, they're exceptionally nice out there.

I was really nervous when I interviewed and they let me in anyway, lol.

They like to pull out questions that seem way out of left field. But they like to look at your background and ask tough questions that relate to any area you are most familiar with. They drilled me because I have a certification in graphic design. They wanted to know why I would give up a seemingly posh career to go into vetmed. They also saw that my area of interest is animal behavior so they pulled out a lot of questions about that. They wanted to know if I were interested in neurology or just they psychology of it.

I know some people who had more of a biomedical research background and they were presented with a photo or case scenerio and asked what they knew or thought about it. Phew, I'm glad they didn't do something like that to me.

Besides that they do the typical questions. They asked me one on the human-animal bond and why I wanted to go to Okstate. Other than that I don't really remember what they asked. They like you to be more conversational like rather than just answer their questions. If you can make the interviewers laugh, that's a really good sign. 😀 Also, prepare questions to ask them. After they get done asking their questions, they'll ask if you have any for them. I had one prepared for each of the interviewers and they seemed impressed by that.

I believe that in my class every in-state male that qualified to interview got accepted. Some of them declined and went to other schools or something. But being a resident male that has been invited to interview pretty much means you're in.

gLAD YOU FELT LIKE YOU DID REALLY WELL hEARTsONG. i HOPE WE BOTH GET GREAT NEWS FROM THEM. dID THEY MENTION WHEN THEY WOULD MAIL OUT FINAL LETTERS??

Oh crap. Caps lock was on....and I'm too lazy to retype... 😀

Last year, they mailed letters on Mar 20th.

You have no idea how happy that makes me. I have to say that I am very happy to be male lol. I realize the official stance is that sex doesn't matter, but I know that it does. If I were female I think my chances of getting in would be even slimmer, but who knows.

If you listen very carefully, you can hear a can of worms being re-opened... 😀

Actually it was about three years ago that I interviewed, so I have no idea where they are in the process this year. And I don't envy any of you going through the stress of waiting again! :scared:

Yeah, I really doubt that gender actually had anything to do with getting accepted. It was just something that someone in my class pointed out. It said it made him feel less honored to get accepted cause ... well ... every other guy in the state who qualified was accepted too. I'm sure it just has more to do with the fact that far fewer guys actually apply.

Hmm, I guess I'm missing something. I'm not sure what the can of worms reference is all about. 😕

My interview at OK State is on the 28th, I can let you know how it goes if you think it will help.

That would be great. I would really like to know how it goes for you, and good luck.

I'm out of state, and don't interview...do you all know when we are supposed to hear back?

Since we are on the subject, does anyone know when we in state people will hear whether or not we get in? I know interviews aren't until the end of this week but I was just wondering.

Last year, it was my understanding (correct me anyone if I'm wrong) that everyone was notififed at the same time. I don't think they notififed the IS head of the OOS.

4 weeks is a long time.....again.....

I asked the vets I worked with this same question. They all said that letters are mailed before Spring break, which this year starts the 10th of March. They were all instate, so I don't know if that applies to out of state.

Good luck to everyone applying.

😱 The mailbox stalking will commence sooner than planned....

That is slightly scary. I really do think I will get in though, I just have a feeling. But then again, who doesn't think that? Guess we will just see. The worse part is I had them send my letter to my Mom's house which is in another state so I will start calling her everyday to ask if the mail arrived lol.

Hey there, so I JUST got back from my OSU interview and I thought I might let you know how it went! They have laminated cards in 4 different colors and they are face down so you can't see the question and you have to pick one of the cards, read the question aloud and answer it. After you have finished they may or may not have follow up questions about your response or something related to it. My laminated questions were "What do you think is the difference between animal rights and animal welfare?" "Everyone procrastinates - what things do you put off?" "What are the veterinarians roles and responsibilities in regards to wildlife and exotic medicine?" "Talk about a time when you felt pressure on your personal integrity."
It wasn't bad at all - if you like to talk to people, you will be just fine. They had read my statement and they did ask a few follow up questions relating to that. They asked me at the end if I had any questions or wanted to say something about myself they hadn't already asked.
Also, the review committee meets March 6th and they will be preparing to send out letters March 10-14th!
Good Luck!
Paige

Thx for the update, and I'm glad yoour interview went well!!! March 10th-14th?? 😱 eek again! The sooner the better. The wait is horrendous!!

I also had my interview today and I got some of the same questions as Pudge2828. I had the animal welfare/animal rights question and the procrastinating question. In addition I had "respond to the quote "the outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man"" and "what contributions have vets made to society". The rest were questions about my application, ethical questions like "what would you do if you saw a classmate cheating" and some opinion questions about slaughtering horses.
It was pretty laid back, my interviewers were joking with one another and asked several times if I had any questions.
I hope this helps.
