Anyone hear from Baylor?

I think their administration is just slow. I interviewed back in December and I remember some MS2 students saying they still hadn't received their grades from the second portion of their first year (in response to an applicant asking "What is one of Baylor's weaknesses?" It's a pain in the rear, but I would still go if I got in. 🙂

Remember that candidates' interviewers should have turned in evaluations immediately. I'm betting there were at least a few stragglers. That pushes them back a week or two, but still, why didn't they tell us in mid-March?

I kind of want to be accepted, matriculate, and then figure out what the hell happened this year.

In other news I think I should drop out of med school and become a consultant for ADCOMs working on process efficiency. Because it obviously sucks.

I'm hoping my first interviewer forgot to turn my form in for like a month, so that he forgot how much he hated me when he filled it out. At this point I just want to know. I would almost prefer a rejection over a waitlist so that I don't have to wait anymore. What annoys me the most about this whole thing with Baylor is that I haven't been able to enjoy my acceptances to other schools. I'm always wondering about Baylor.

It'd be funny if we had the same "hates everyone" interviewer. Mine was a fairly young (mid 30s? late 30s?) pediatric anesthesiologist, but I can't remember his name. Dark hair, asian guy, kind of solidly built...

It was weird, it was my second interview of the season (out of like 13, if you include multiple interviews at the same school) and it was the only one that went badly. I think he honestly didn't like my amount of research (lots) compared to my volunteer/shadowing (little).

We had the same guy. Tae Kim was his name. I felt like he didn't like me from the get go, and he second guessed all of my responses. None of my answers were satisfactory. I left that interview knowing I would be getting the thin letter.

I only had a hard time connecting with one other interviewer. It was at UTSA and it was with a MD/PhD in Pathology.

my worst interview was a straight up PhD without MD- obviously he grilled me on my research, and the whole time he kept going on about how he was probably the smartest patient his cardiologist had since he researched cardiovascular stuff. it was at another school, and this was the only interview- i was pissed they didn't atleast get someone with a MD to interview for MED SCHOOL! if i'd wanted to get interviewed by a strictly PhD guy i would've applied to grad school.

He sounds like my Biochem professor. This wasn't UMich, was it?

I also had a bad first interview with a pediatric anesthesiologist, although it wasn't the same one as you guys, and mine went around the same lines as your bad interview. Maybe that's part of the pediatric anesthesiology residency training.

I have never had a good interview with a pathologist. My first one spoke to me over his microscope and just kept telling me how great pathology was because you won't have to deal with patients.

My second pathologist interviewer (different school) just kept repeating stuff from my app and saying, "so is this true?” It was done in 20 min when it should have lasted an hour.

I was accepted to the first school, waitlisted at the second though.

My interviews at Baylor seemed to go well. My interviewer even told me I was a great fit for Baylor and actually asked me, "What can I tell you to make you choose Baylor?" Just goes to show you can't anticipate acceptances based on interviews.

Haha, it WAS the same guy! Oh man. Small world. Funny too, I was thinking of peds anes as a career, but if the field is full of guys like that I'll pass.
 
Weird...I had Dr. Kim and he seemed like a pretty decent guy. He actually gave me his card after the interview and told me if I had any questions about the program I shouldn't hesitate to email him.

He told me that too at the end, maybe he felt bad. Then again, I emailed him once about a week after my interview and he never responded.
 
I'm all nerves .. two weeks? Petrifying. :scared:

I don't remember what he said to me at the end. I just wanted to get out of that room as fast as possible.

I had an interview with a MD/PhD in Path at UTSA too except I thought he was great. He was a reserved guy but he gave me great advice and I felt like I did conect with him though I was doubtful until the last moment before I left the room. If it was the same guy, I bet it was more that he's just that type on introverted, reserved personality.

but i did want to say "thank you" for all of the recent activity on this thread! reading the posts gives me something to do...and in a very wierd way makes the waiting a little bit easier.... 🙂

I totally agree!! Knowing that you're not the only one being so incredibly frustrated has helped so much 🙂!! Reading this thread definitely makes the waiting much much easier and less painful in a sort of way
 
yeah i've prety much written baylor off. i'm expecting alternate list...waiting till end of may....sorry we didn't use the alternate list you're rejected! we could have rejected you earlier, but we decided to make you wait another few months.
 
I'm doubting anyone will hear today since it is Good Friday.

Wow. I just finished reading that thread--what a tragic story. For several months, after April 10, the day the first SDN waitlister received their letter, there's this ongoing feeling of suspense that one of them will get in. And then all the way into June they get the heartbreaking news that Baylor did not have to pull many from the waitlist. I'm afraid we're in for a frighteningly similar story...:scared:

i feel bitter that they couldnt' tell us earlier.
 
i have a random question....i remember reading in an old thread that baylor accepts a certain number of students from rice....are rice students able to claim texas residency after their time in college (assuming they aren't originally from texas)? i was just wondering if rice alum are part of the ~70% in-state quota, or if they also take up some of the ~30% OOS spots....

stop thinking about it, you're either going to get in or not get in - overanalyzing is not going to increase your chances of getting in

if it makes you feel any better the rice alums take up part of the texas in-state quota

harsh? i don't see it as that way, hopefully i'll prevent her from stressing out too much about the waiting process. i've stayed up quite a few times in the past month freaking out about BCM's upcoming decisions (i interviewed on their 2nd day)

and for the part in white, that was intended 😉

:laugh: haha -- so you really think that you'll prevent someone else from stressing? would that work the other way around? if i told you that you're either in or not and you should continue on with your life without worry, would that have prevented you from freaking out? i'm gonna say no....after all, who's okay with not being in control?!?! 🙄

actually it has, i generally stress out when i'm by myself and my mind is racing trying to overanalyze every little bit of information - it's probably one of the main reasons people post on SDN

the particular question she asked is tough to answer because some rice students are texas residents and others aren't, so it's probably a combination of both. noone on here will know the answer for sure and the admissions committee would probably have a response similar to mine.

so worrying about a detail as minute as student's residencies really provides more questions than answers

Unless you live in TX for 1 year for NON-ACADEMIC reasons you are still OOS. So the OOS students at Rice that get into Baylor are still OOS. Sorry.

I received that e-mail also on the third of April. But nothing else since...
 
I got an e-mail from the Dean's office yesterday saying they are:

still accepting applicants, and will be forming a waiting list next week for use in making future acceptances

But it does sound like they are making movement, finally!
 
to all getting these emails,
am i right to assume that it is b/c you wrote an email sometime before inquiring about your status or the status of admissions ?

ohhhh....be sure to not get drunk and make some off-handed remarks to the other students....we'd hate to hear about another acceptance offer being withdrawn....

and of course, calling someone a "nappy-headed hoe" is not pc as well!
