Anyone heard from UCSF yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just seeing who's going to be at the interview this Saturday 🙂 are you guys excited?!

I'm in the 12pm group.

I'll see you there!

Hey! Finally someone in the same group as me! Everyone I know is either interviewing 2/3 in the morning or 2/9 in the afternoon.
I'm really excited and nervous. I'm pretty exhausted from all the other interviews and classes, so I hope I can get it together for one last interview

Hi. Just curious. For those who already had their interviews and drove to the school, did you have any trouble finding parking? I'm still debating which route of transport I should take. Thanks!

In my opinion, you should take public transit if at all possible. While they do have parking decks, they are expensive and (in my experience) seem to fill up. Street parking is minimal unless you are willing to walk and drive around for awhile looking for one. I wouldn't risk it. Are you familiar with the city's public transit? The number 6, 66, and 43 drop you off right in front of the hospital. The N-Judah is your best connection from bart. It drops you off right in front of the UCSF parking deck a block away from the hospital (unfortunately the block is a really steep hill but there are elevators available).
Don't drive if you can help it.

If you want to drive and are concerned about parking, you can easily find parking in the golden gate park. It would take 10 min max to walk from there to campus. However, the parking is generally only for 3 hrs so you have to keep that in mind. If you want more details on the exact location of the park, send me a pm.

Good luck on your interviews!!

Thanks guys for the advice! For sure I will not drive to the school. Ill look into the bart/bus combo. =)

Am I the only one here having an interview on 2/8? A thursday? This feels wierd!

of course not, i am interviewing on the 8th too~

anyone else nervous?

I had 3 interviews so far, but I've never felt this nervous. I think it's because UCSF is my top choice. 😳

yep im there 2/8 too!

I'm planning to take the N-Judah so is that a bus line that stops at the BART station? I've never been to the city before so I'm not familiar with their public transportation system. Once the N-Judah stops at the Parnassus campus, will you have to walk up a hill or does the elevator take you up to the entrance? Or would it be easier for me to take the 6, 66, or 43?

The N Judah drops you off right in front of the campus and there are orange signs posted for you to go through the entrance of the building and I believe you have to go up to level J(I can be wrong...it's been over a week). But, don't worry...if you get lost just ask someone. San Fran people are suprisingly nice and helpful (atleast compared to those in LA). And don't be a freak like me and show up two hours early because your clothes will get wrinkled! Also, take something light to eat (little snacks)! Hmmm...what else? Oh and for those of you planning on flying back right away...not smart! I was in the 2:30 pm group on 1/26 and I was still there at 7:30 pm...so plan your trip accordingly!!! Best of luck to everyone!!!

I haven't taken the N Judah since I was a student there - but I took it a lot while I was there.

It drops you off on Judah - which is one street "below" the campus. The school itself is on Parnassus which is up a hill from Judah. It's a long hike!

Indeed, if you go in the building in front of where you are dropped off - there is an elevator, which is actually part of the parking garage. That building connects completely with the student union. You take the elevator up then turn right & go thru the building to the street (Parnassus). Cross that street & there is the medical center - at least that is how it used to be.

Since I've been a student, I've driven & parked in the garage.

But....if you're staying in a hotel - ask the concierge the night before what like to take - it depends on where you're staying. The concierge will also be able to tell you how long to allow to get there, which depends on the tiime of day, which day, etc.

If you use MUNI, all you need to do is tell him/her you want to get off at UCSF - they'll call it out for you & they all know where it is.

I'm not sure about Bart connections - which Bart station are you gettin off at & where are you taking it from? The N Judah is a trolley, altho they do use buses occasionally. The 6 is a bus line, but I'm not sure which Bart station you'll be at (that is a terrible sentence, but I'm not sure how to make it clearer😕 ).

There is a gift shop in Long/Moffit hospital & a small convenience store in the student union bldg where you can buy snacks if you don't bring any.

There are 2 cafeterias - one in Long/Moffit hospital & one downstairs in the student union. There are lots of restaurants on Judah within walking distance of the school (after you take the elevator down) but none on Parnassus. But...none which will get you in and out fast.

Good luck to everyone!!!

How is parking around the area? I was thinking of driving instead of hopping on the muni. I was going to take a look at the area tonight, but maybe you guys could help me out. Any parking structures for interviewees?

there is a parking structure right across the street but it is EXPENSIVE. i interviewed this past saturday so i don't know how full the lot gets on the weekdays but i ended up paying $13.75 for parking 3 hours (i had to leave early). if i remember correctly, if you go over 4 hours, you get charged $22.

Yep - there's a parking structure & it is expensive...but no more so than anywhere else in SF (SF is expensive!!!!). Its for everyone - students, patients, families, staff, etc....

Parking on the street is by gosh & by golly. Everything in front of the hospitals is metered - so that's out & you will indeed get a parking ticket if you let the meter go.

If its a bad day...you can park blocks and blocks away. Remember - the school is at the TOP of the hill - you must walk UP from just about anywhere...so don't get hot, winded, rumpled,, etc.....If its a good day,, you'll find a place within 2 blocks - still...you'll be walking 2 blocks uphill.

Actually - I don't think $22 is that expensive for >4hrs....but, I'm not coming from a student budget - I know that.

But....again....what's it worth? You always have to keep that in perspective.

Where would you be driving from?

I drive to UCSF on most days and park in the golden gate park for free (3 hrs only). Like I mentioned before, its 10 min of effortless walk. Not much uphill since you can take the same elevator you would take if you were coming by muni. I wouldn't recommend parking there in the evening.

Good luck to all of those interviewing. If you are interviewing on the 9th, I may see you.....I'll be one of the students giving a tour.

If you're interviewing on the 8th, don't feel weird that it is a Thursday....I actually know of several people interviewing on that day. I may see you that day as well if they let me do the chat room.

If you're looking for a place to stay (and it's not too late) I actually stayed at a bed & breakfast advertised on the UCSF website. I got a discount because I was affiliated with UCSF (The owner is a professor) I parked about 5-10 minutes away from the B&B, and the walk the next morning was around 15-20 mins....but it was cool, crisp, and sunshiny (and UPHILL).....and it sure beat finding parking. I definitely second (third, fourth, fifth, etc) everyone elses suggestion....don't drive if you can avoid it! If you find parking....pay CLOSE attention to the parking signs (3 hrs max, no parking between the hours of X & Y, no parking on day Z, etc.)

Good luck to you all!

Oh.....and if you park on a hill....CURB YOUR TIRES or you'll be asking for a ticket. Believe me....I know! 🙂

hmm... so far i haven't seen anyone say that they are interviewing on Feb 15th? Are any of you guys out there? I hope there wasn't a typo on my interview invitation.

best of luck to you guys.

I'm interviewing on Feb 15 at 2:30pm. What time is yours?

I am interviewing during the first wave on the 15th (i have to be there at 1130). I am so excited!!!!!! This whole application process has just seemed to take forever!

yayness! i feel a little better now. futuredruggist...my interview is also at 2:30p on the 15th. sillyfruits...i'm jealous of you. i have no room for excitement cuz i'm so nervous and worried right now. it's my first pharm. school interview!

Hey Kae:
Where else did you apply?
Good luck to both you and you, futuredruggist! We are in the last set of interviews so hopefully we'll be fresh in their minds!

as a san fran local, i just want to warn you non-locals that the bay area dry spell is coming to an end and the rain clouds are coming in. make you sure prepare for a wet interview, just to be safe! I would hate to go to my interview soaking wet in a nice suit from hiking up the hill, etc. otherwise, good luck you lucky bastards who got interviews ..😀 just playing.

anyone with interview tomorrow at 11:30? see u there! nervous!

i only applied to ucsd and ucsf. i didn't get an interview from sd, and wasn't expecting it either. Those UCSF essays took forever, and i just b/sed on the SD suppl. application ;P

i think you hold the golden ticket - admissions into SC.

i interviewed today and i thought it went fine.

just wondering since this was my first interview, how do u know u had a great interview?

when do we expect to get the admission results?

what is the earliest and latest date?

i have read some threads here saying they will start rejecting people right away if their interviews didn't go well.
Acceptance letters, on the other hand, won't go out until mid-March according to James. He also said everybody should find out the result before April 1st.

I received an acceptance letter from UCSF this afternoon, dated Feb 13th!!! 🙂

WOW! that is SUPER early. i thought they said they didnt start sending out acceptances until mid-late March. when did you interview? on the letter, does it say anything about how many have been accepted thus far? CONGRATS!

Like everyone else, I was also told that acceptances were not going to be sent out until mid-March. When my dad called to say there was something in the mail from UCSF, I feared the worst and was totally shocked when he read it to me.
The letter doesn't say anything about the number accepted, it's pretty much just like the interview acceptance, where they give you a reply code and you have to enter it within 14 days.
It sounds ridiculous but I keep thinking this is a mistake or something 🙂 But the letter is personally signed by Dean Koda-Kimble so it has to be real, right? 😀

Eeek I'm totally freaking out!!

Oh and edit: I interviewed JAN 26th

so the myth of people who get rejected hear first is wrong.

wow total congrats to you man. i know you must be high right now 😉

Oh man, that's so early! Congrats 😀 I actually don't want to hear anything from UCSF for a while because I just sent out my $500 deposit to USC and getting anything would piss me off so much. But good job 😀

Congratulations! We're all so very jealous! You know what's sad? I decided to myself that I wanted to go to UCSF a day AFTER I had my interview 🙁 I should/would have tried harder if I had known that then...I just hope what I put forth was good enough.

Congratulations! I received my acceptance Feb 14, 1972 - the only Valentine's Day that I'll remember forever!

Congratulations, Zwigglez! I'm totally going to be paranoid now if I don't hear from them before the middle of March. Ahhh!!:scared:

Jame did mention that they will review the file randomly. On the other hand, Zwiggles must have very attractive qualities. They must have really like her. Did you guys notice that Zwiggles have also been accepted to USC and UOP. Envy!!!!!!😀

Oh Zwigglez, I just noticed that you are the only one on here who has posted an acceptance to UCSF....does that mean that you get to start the official UCSF c/o 2011 thread? 🙂
