Anyone heard from UCSF yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, but (s)he was from the previous year(s).

You are correct. C/O 2010 at your service. Part of the unofficial welcome crew if you will. 😀

Oh....and it is HE!

so will the rest of the interviewers hear back by mid-march? only 1-2 get it early?

Ha......if I knew when people were supposed to hear back, I'd be a rich man. FWIW, I was told that MOST everyone would hear back by mid March. I also read that you may hear back earlier than that if you were rejected. So, as far as that goes, I have the same info as many of you have.

Oh Zwigglez, I just noticed that you are the only one on here who has posted an acceptance to UCSF....does that mean that you get to start the official UCSF c/o 2011 thread? 🙂

I was thinking about it, but it would only be me so far 🙂 I might wait until other people start to hear back.

Pharm Homer--just gotta tell you that I LOVE your avatar. 🙂

Heh heh....Thanks! It's homemade...and it's also my computer background. Just wanted to show my school pride. I can tell you that my classmates are probably sick of it by now! 😎

Well, it looks like Zwigglez is not the only one. I just received an acceptance letter today!!!😀 I was completely shocked since it came a month earlier than I expected. Good luck to everyone out there who is still waiting!!

wowness... congrats to the both of you...

boltsfan, would you like to tell us what date your interview was?? ;P

Zwiggles and BoltsFan, did you also receive an email from UCSF or just a postal letter? (Congrats btw!)

Congrats congrats.....if you have any ?'s, let me know. I'll help if I can.

when did you interview?

i guess that statement that rejections come out the earliest is kinda wrong. maybe rejections come last now :scared:

My interview was on February the 3rd. The letter came through the mail and the date on the letter is Feb the 15th.

Sounds good!! As the first person who got accepted, you get the honors of starting the thread. 🙂

My interview went great, I left feeling like I totally slam-dunked it (but I didn't tell anyone that, I didn't want to jinx myself 😀 ). I previously interviewed at 2 other schools and this was by far my best one. The conversation flowed easily and both of my interviewers were very friendly. The questions I was asked were difficult, but it wasn't anything I was unprepared for. A lot of questions about recent pharm legislation (my supplemental included an essay about how I'm very interested in politics) and a few situational questions.

My essay was just average if I remember correctly. But because of the short amount of time given, I felt it was acceptable.

slam dunk huh. i want to have that feeling 😉

I interviewed in the afternoon and yes, I am a guy.

I felt like my interview went well. It wasnt perfect by any means (I know I made mistakes), but I felt like I expressed myself clearly. My interviewers were really nice, which helped. I think my essay was good for the time that was allowed. I thought I did well enough overall to get in, but I didnt think I would be getting a letter this early.

My GPA is a 3.7 from UCSB with a pharmacology major. My science GPA was a 3.8. I had a good amount of pharmacy experience (1.5 years volunteering and 1 year as a tech). This was my #1 choice so I feel lucky to have gotten in this early. 😀

congrats guys/gals!

oh man, i guess its time to look in the mailbox =/

boltsfan/zwigglez - envelope was thick (more than one sheet of paper) or single sheet?

im scurrred =P

Single sheet, then after I confirmed the acceptance on the internet, I received an email explaining everything else I had to do to officially reserve a spot (transcripts, deposit, statement of residence, etc).

ooooooooooooooooo..... so I guess you really don't know just from the feel of the envelope =) nice!

isnt it weird that they dont send letters out in batches?

I'm more weirded out by the fact that they said that the date of your interview doesn't affect your chances of being accepted and people received acceptance letters dated before the last interview dates were over... I mean, it seems like it's only a few people and it shouldn't make a difference, but UCSF said they were going to evaluate every applicant before sending out letters and it sounds like they didn't. It makes me more than a little nervous. I'm really happy for Zwigglez and BoltsFan. I wish I had that comfort already of knowing where I stand with UCSF. I'm so jealous! Everyday I check my mail and it doesn't come and I just repeat my little mantra "tomorrow's another day."

So, for the acceptees....are you planning to live in the mission bay apartments or find something else near the Parnassus campus? It seemed like there were a lot of mixed opinions about the mission bay housing.

Hopefully I'll be seeing you guys in class in the fall 😉

^ Just goes to show that admission committee's don't stand by their word. They probably really liked these two applicants so much that they didn't want them to accept any other offers. I wonder what the scoring rubric is from schools like these. It probably looks something like this 😀

Score 1: Hell Yeah 😀
Score 2: 😛 , but let's make them wait longer
Score 3: 😳 Yes with reservations
Score 4: 🙁 Let's wait and compare
Score 5: Sorry, not this time 👎
Score 6: 😡 Hit the road jack.

LOL. It was funny, because while I was waiting for my interview, I was all concerned about dividing my eye contact between the 2 interviewers, but when one interviewer was asking a question, the other interviewer was furiously scribbling notes, so I didn't end up having to worry about it, since the note-taking interviewer wasn't looking up or expecting eye contact. They were writing down all of those "Hell Yeah!" and "Hit the Road Jack!" scores. 🙂 Thanks for the laughs.

The wait is starting to bother me. . . It didn't bother me so much after UCSD, but the wait after UCSF is getting to me. I was so happy when I first recieved my interview acceptances that I didn't care so much whether I got into any schools. Ha, ha, so why is this all bothering me now ^_^' Rejection wouldn't bother me so much as this wait. . . or maybe it would. Lol, guess I'll have to wait 😛

isnt it weird that they dont send letters out in batches?

I don't think they send out in batches because they randomly review files and probably make decisions as they go. Has anyone been rejected yet that interviewed? That would give some insight into their process, because it obviously isn't the "reject first, then review everyone's in mid-March" method like we were all told.

Well, I'm looking for a 2 bedroom place, so if I want campus housing it's either Mission Bay or Aldea. I like Mission Bay, but I'm not sure I want to be living that far. Has anyone from the forums lived in either of these places?

both of you guys heard around 3 weeks from your interview date so should start hearing around there. but most will be mid-to-late march.

haha, they're such a tease. maybe they're sending out a letter a week, get everyone all :scared: and all of a sudden around mid-march, they'll mail everyone.

remember, not everyone uses SDN. so maybe someone else may have gotten news. i think there have been more than just 2.

Ya, it seems like only a handful of registered users (~20-30) said they had interviews. That's about 10% of those interviewed. So I'm sure they sent out some last week to about 10 people or so, and will send more from those reviewed this week. I'd be checking your mail this weekend or next Monday for stuff. But I think they'll probably hold off on a lot of the acceptances so they can review everyone and assure themselves of their choice, and then send the rest (with the waitlisters) in a couple of weeks.

a few schools are changing the way they're giving out acceptances. they're giving out a few to the best students as they go and reserve their right to give out the rest later on. colorado seems to be doing that too.

Congrats to both of you!!!
I also interviewed on 1/26 and havent heard a thing yet... The wait is killing me!
I didn't think waiting would be so difficult... It's a lot tougher than waiting for an interview. Am I the only one or does everyone also criticize the answers to the interview questions on a daily basis? Or does your heart start beating super fast when you're checking your mail?

I've heard mixed things about Mission Bay and Aldea is family only - meaning you must provide proof of marriage or registered partnership and have children (according to the housing office person I spoke to today). So I think I'll be surfing craigslist for the next few months 🙂

No one else yet..???????????

Comon mister postman!

I know... I think my postman thinks I am crazy... I can't really blame him! But, heey atleast I've gotten to know him pretty well throughout this process... 😛 Oh yeah and he promised he would pray for me... let's see if it works...🙂

I found this on Ucsd 2011 thread by jindopowa.

"I talked to someone on the admission committee.. She said that they make up a list ranking people according to best overall score (interview + application and everything else), and send letters to the top scoring individuals after everyone has been scored. Then after those people reply, they send out more letters based on how many people have rejected. I think UCSF has the same system. I do know that they share their lists.. "

Any idea?

but the few people who already got accepted got their acceptance letters before the last interview dates, so everyone couldn't have been scored yet...?

On my interview day I specifically asked James what the admissions process was like and if it was similar to USC's system of scoring individuals (like UCSD apparently also). He said he wasn't allowed to comment 😛
