Hey everyone! I had all my ERAS stuff in early last week, and about half the schools (applied to 15) have downloaded my documents (my file is complete minus dean's letter). Just wondering how long it will be until programs start extending interview invitations. Anybody know?

How can you check to see if programs have downloaded your files?

To see if your application has been downloaded go to: https://services.aamc.org/eras/adts2004/

I applied to 17 schools last week. 4 have not downloaded my application yet. But I did get an interview offer from Emory this week. They sent a letter via regular mail.

I wish everyone good luck with interviews.

I also got a letter from Emory and have gotten two other invitations by email. There are still about eight to ten of the programs I've applied to that haven't downloaded anything yet.

ETA: I just checked ADTS and saw that a few more of my programs started downloading my stuff. I will just feel better when the last two of my four LORs are turned in.

Well, geez, I guess I should have applied to Emory, huh? 😉 9 of the 15 schools I applied to have downloaded my complete file, but I have heard ZIPPO! 🙁 I am just anxious to get the whole interview process underway! Thanks everyone for input.

Which two other programs replied you via e-mails?

Heheheh... I did not know that you can check uploads and downloads through ADTS until today. I am still waiting for the last LOR to arrive. I hate reminding that person because honestly, it is no where close to any school's deadline. But if all the other 3 recommenders have turned it in and my personal statement will be uploaded this weekend, it would be nice if that LAST letter has arrived already.

I did not apply to Emory either. Have not heard from any school. Maybe that has something to do with my not turning in the personal statement yet 😀

I submitted my app around 10 am on 9/2, and all my stuff is in except for 1 LoR, but I've only heard from my med school's program (not a nationally renowned program), who called me at home to schedule an interview.

UNC and Washington-St.Louis emailed me. I also got a 'real' mail invite from U of Washington today.

Vanderbilt, Michigan, UCSF, and U of Washington.

Got an email from Hopkins and UVA. Real mail from Dartmouth and Baylor.

Asher,

Do you remember when you got the letter from Baylor?

The Baylor letter was postmarked Sept 10.

I've only heard from the lower-profile programs thus far (temple, st. vincent's)... maybe should've studies harder for step 1:laugh:

I am trying to match surgery this year, but psych is my second intrest. i know these are very different from either but thats just the way i am i guess. anyway, in case i don't match how hard is it to scramble a spot in psych? let's say if i wanted to stay in chicago, or detroit?

I'm beginning to feel left out--I haven't finished my ERAS just yet, and haven't gotten any recommendation letters in yet. Anyone else in the same situation? When's the latest date I should get my application complete so that I don't get behind in this whole process?

The commonly accepted belief is that you should submit as soon as your app is ready, even if your LOR's and personal statement aren't, b/c some programs (especially psych) will give you an interview based on the fact that you're a US grad and your step score.

UNC and drexel....

this is a lot slower than I expected. Oh well.... we will see.

Univ of Washington and Univ of Wisconsin -- Madison........at least that's two, wish I'd hear from some of the Northeast programs I applied to.......anyone hear from UMass, Brown, Hartford, UofVT?

Something tells me that this thread is going to be posted on for a long, long time

Are you guys replying right away to the requests with suggested interview dates or are you guys waiting to get more replies before answering?

It depends, people usually say that you should schedule one or two "practice" interviews early on at some of the programs that you're not so interested in, and hold off on the places you want to go until a little later.

I just got an email invite from Yale.

UVA and USF-Tampa

University of South Florida - they called me.

Does anyone know how competitive their program is?

From what their website and what the residents say, it is. You know the 5 or 6 reviews that have been posted on scutwork.com in the past 6 months or so? Well I emailed a couple of the reviewers, and they say that it is actuallly tough to get into; they say that they usuallly match their 6 spots from their top 10 choices. I'm not really sure if it's because of the location (it IS a great town) or the program or both. Also, it appears that the call is home call, which isn't bad.

UPenn called today and UT-Southwest sent an email.

ditto on Penn

University of South Carolina -- Columbia

USCSoM, eh. Decent school, ok location. You'll be doing your actual residency at Richland Memorial, right smack in the middle of downtown Cola. The campus for USC is just down the street; the SoM campus is a bit further.

Oh yeah, hope you don't mind working under a DO.

Can anyone comment on programs in Texas? Which programs have the best overall reputation. I have several invites, but the only program I am familiar with is Baylor.

hurt,

I'm from Texas and I was wondering the same thing. I talked with the PD at my school and he told me UT Southwestern, Baylor, and San Antonio have great programs. UT Houston is pretty good, but the rest are "C" programs.

What schools are you going to visit?

doctor4ever,

I am confirmed with Baylor and UT Southwestern. I am undecided about Texas A&M and UTMB Galveston. I am waiting to hear from San Antonio and a few others. If you were to choose a program based on location only, which city in Texas is the most desirable?

hurt,

Houston - really big city, bad traffic, horrible weather, but it does have the Texas Medical Center

Austin - great town, plenty of activities, good weather

San Antonio - good weather, near austin, and the medical center is not in downtown. But SA doesn't have as much to offer as Houston and Dallas (i.e. entertainment, shopping)

Dallas - lots of research dollars, traffic isn't as bad as Houston, medical center is in a really bad part of town, but lots of things to do

Have you heard how competitive these places are?

I've heard positive things about UT-Southwest from someone who finished up residency there about four years or so ago. Granted things can change a lot in four years, but this person spoke highly of the program, thought that there was good research going on, and that it was very "resident friendly."

I've only been to Houston and Dallas. I don't usually have a strong dislike for any big city, but I despise Houston. It's a bunch of strip malls connected by highways, with a generic downtown, and the worst smog problem in the US. Dallas is a bit more cosmopolitan, but it's still Texas.

In the past week the following have sent me invites:

UT Houston - regular mail
UT Galveston - email
Texas A&M - email
Baylor - regular mail
UCSF - Fresno - email

Does anyone know anything about the program in Fresno?

Has anyone looked at the supplemental app for UCSF? I don't think I'm even going to fill it out. I guess it works if they're trying to weed out applicants.

The supplemental app takes only five minutes or less to fill out (I'm assuming from your message that you hadn't looked at it yet).

I got email invites from Mayo and Maryland.

From what I've heard of Fresno, it's a small program for people who want a laid-back, not-too-academic experience, with a low workload. I strongly considered applying, as it seems to fit my criteria. It's the location that kept it off my list.

Has anyone received interviews at the New York schools other than NYU?

Funny you should ask - I just heard from Mt. Sinai about 5 minutes ago. Still haven't heard from NYU though.

UC-San Diego emailed me yesterday.

I also got a message from Mt Sinai on Friday afternoon (10/10).

Stanford by e-mail on 10/10

Mt. Sinai by phone on 10/13

Anyone know anything about Stanford's program?

Case Western - email

Does anyone have information about their program?

Duke and Michigan sent me email invitations today.

where did you find out about the fresno supplemental application?

I also heard from Cornell today. It was weird, I got an email saying that they had sent me an invitation to interview over a week ago and if I didn't reply by the end of this week they were going to give my slot to someone else. But this is the first I've heard of it. Anyway, it's settled now.
