Congrats on both the Boston children’s and Franciscan children’s interviews! I got a rejection from Boston children’s and wasn’t on the mass email for Franciscans so I’m assuming that’s a rejections also....have you gotten a sense of what specifically they may have been looking for?

I felt like my hours were fine so just wondering if I didn’t have enough research experience or something!

I didn't get an interview from Franciscan either. 🙁.

hi! I’m sorry to hear you didn’t get an interview! I really wish I could say what places might be looking for. I got rejections from places I thought were “safe” and invites from places I thought were “long shots.” I will say I do have a relatively strong research background (I got fortunate in that I joined a very productive lab), but it didn’t seem like Franciscan Children’s had a strong emphasis on research. I really wish I knew what goes through TDs’ heads! Best of luck to you throughout this process! I’m sure you’ll find the perfect fit!

If I were aiming for CAPS it would be DUKE as number one! I heard they pay exceptionally well and you get good experience - Congrats!!!

Anyone hear back regarding interview details from UT Tyler?

I am there this year for Practicum! GREAT program.

Details about interviews. I filled out the doodle per the invitation and my inbox has been crickets.
I just heard back a few minutes ago. But my email has some errors and times that do not make sense, so I need to follow up about that. I was waiting to see if I got another email sorting it out first.

Just realized that this will all be over before the break for winter holidays!!! So glad this season won’t be overshadowed by uncertainty like Thanksgiving- despite mounting rejections, I am feeling so much more grounded as time goes on. I hope you al are finding yourselves in better spirits now than this time last month, and if not, that things will look up soon.

It’s that uncertainty which I found to be what I struggled with most last year. Once the invitation period was over, I found I enjoyed myself quite a bit last year. Interviewing was exhausting/stressful but also very fun and gave me a lot of hope about my future. It really ended up being a positive experience overall despite the acute anxiety I experienced waiting to hear from sites.

Duke CAPS - Rejection. That one stung since there are previous cohorts there that came from my program. Bummer. 10 more to hear from with 2 interviews. Getting a little nervous. I wish I had applied to UT San Antonio yesterday!

What's the average amount of interviews people typically get when applying to 15 sites? I know this varies based on site competitiveness, but I'm just curious. I'm at 7 interviews, 7 rejections so far.

Per APPIC stats that’s the average for folks who match!

I certainly don’t encourage social comparisons, but APPIC’s survey results from 2018 indicate that the mean/median # of applications submitted was ~15, and the mean/median # of interviews was ~7, so you seem to be on par with the norms.

I'm nervous with just my 2 interviews so far, still have sites to hear back from. But knowing the stats when it comes to matching is making me worrisome.

I am definitely in the same boat here! Are you waiting on any other sites?

I have received several interviews in the last week from sites that are offering multiple dates and time. A couple set the date selection cut off for 12/20. I chose not to reply right away so that I could look at my schedule and try to coordinate my interview dates and locations. In the interim I've received another notification requesting I send back my selection as soon as possible. I feel pressured to choose a date and want to avoid having to reschedule or cancel. It is unprofessional to hold off on replying with my date selection until closer to the cut off?

TD here. When this happens at our program I don’t necessarily think the applicant is being unprofessional. However, my worry is that by the time the applicant finally gets back to me, the majority of dates will be taken, and the person will not have their top (or close) choice of dates.

I wish you the best of luck.
