APPIC Interview Invitation Thread (2021)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Metropolitan was supposed to give out invitation tomorrow 11/19 and I haven’t heard anything, invite or rejection. How long do you think we should wait before emailing them for inquiry???

I might wait a couple days - I was supposed to hear from one site on Monday 11/16 and didn't hear about my rejection until Tuesday mid-day (which would have been embarrassing if I had emailed on Tuesday IMO).

Anyone else heard back from Mass Gen/Harvard for rejection yet? I applied to Neuro track and saw some people had received offers last night and this AM, but I haven't heard either way yet.
Applied to Child Elective but haven’t heard anything yet...

I havent heard from them either. I also applied to neuro track...... definitely a reach site for me though

I personally would not send an email. I’m not sure what good would come of it.
In rare circumstances an admin person may have made a typo in e-mail addresses and someone who may not have gotten an e-mail was actually invited for interview. Not common, but it does happen. Especially across hundreds of sites and thousands of applicants. After 3-5 business days from the deadline, it's ok to send an e-mail inquiring about your status if you have not heard back. Make sure you are checking your spam folders first, though.

For those who received an invitation from Loma Linda VA, did you hear back with your scheduled interview date? Not sure how long I should expect to wait before they let us know since it was only two options.

I'm a bit confused regarding the The UCSF Child and Adolescent Services Multicultural Clinical Training Program (MCTP) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, their notification date is today but when I reached out to ask she sent me their match policies:

5. What is the "Interview Notification Date" in my APPIC Directory Online listing, and how should I go about setting that date?
According to the APPIC Match Policies, each site that participates in Phase I of the APPIC Match and that conducts on-site or telephone interviews is required to notify each applicant who submits a complete application to the site as to whether or not that applicant will receive an interview. Furthermore, each site is required to inform applicants in advance regarding the date (the "Interview Notification Date") by which such notification will occur. For APPIC members, this notification date must be specified in the site's Directory Online listing; for non-members, it must be included in the site's public information.

APPIC recommends that sites use December 15 as the interview notification date; however, each site is free to set whatever date it chooses. Sites are obligated via the Match Policies to notify applicants by the date that they have specified, and applicants must receive the notification by that date. Most Training Directors use e-mail rather than regular mail for this purpose.

Sites that conduct open houses to which all applicants are invited and conduct no other interviews are exempt from the above interview notification requirement (this process should be clearly stated in the APPIC Directory Online and/or sites' publicity materials).

For Phase II of the Match, no interview notification is required.

I dont want to send another confused email but just wondering if anyone knows what I'm missing lol
That’s weird. I’m waiting to hear back from them too and I assumed they’d be emailing us this week, since their interviews are set for the beginning of December...

As I was reading this message, I got an email from them saying interview notifications are delayed to Tuesday, 11/24 due to Covid and the new application process. I'm sure you just received this as well.

I don't see this one offered yet, so I'll add it to the list...

Yes, mine said that! My friends who are on internship now also said they received similar rejection letters last year. Unclear if it means anything, though.

I wonder if the 'we'll keep you on file' line has something to do with Phase II. It still isn't a guarantee of anything and you still have a great chance of being successful in Phase I.

So, what’s everyone doing to stay sane this weekend?

Packing. I will be hitting the road as soon as spring semester is over.

Okay friends, time to channel this extra election/Covid/overall state of the world worry into something more productive than rewatching the Great British Baking Show.

This thread is primarily to share invitations for interviews. Feel free to PM me if you’d prefer to stay anonymous. I’ll do my best to stay on top of updates. Additional posts, such as site-specific questions, rejections, and general community support in these uncertain times are accepted and highly encouraged!

Rejection from UofU Counseling Center 11/20/20

Folks who got an interview with Nationwide Children's Hospital: have you been told which date your interview has been scheduled for? I sent them my date rankings right away when I got their email on Tuesday, but haven't heard back as of yet. Other sites I got invitations from have gotten back to me within a day or two, so I'm wondering if maybe something slipped through the cracks (nothing in my spam box).

In the spirit of transparency and normalizing rejections: I got a rejection from Kennedy Krieger yesterday

Staying sane this weekend by cleaning my apartment and virtual coffee dates with friends. 🙂

If there is anyone on here that has already gone through the match process in past years...... in particular neuro.....

what are some typical interview questions to prepare for? I am feeling nervous about zoom interviews!
Here's something I saw on time2track : https://time2track.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Sample-APPIC-Internship-Interview-Questions.pdf
Maybe you could ask a friend to help you rehearse so you don't feel as nervous during the real interview.

Has anyone received a rejection from NYU Bellevue, particularly the child track? I saw that some have received interviews, but I haven’t heard either way from them yet. Thanks!

I have not previously applied, but here is what I learned in my mock interview with a TD at a site I did not apply to:

1) Test your setup early (speakers, microphone, lighting, camera position) to make sure everything is actually working. We did actually have sound issues mid-interview and it ended up being on their end, but we survived.
2) Be prepared to talk about your dissertation - topic choice, current status, how it will help you with future career plans
3) Expected questions from them include - why our site? where do you see yourself in 5 years? tell us about your diversity experiences/training? tell us about a challenging client? tell us about a great client? tell us about your theoretical orientation and how you adapt if a client is not improving?
4) It is weird if you do not have any questions for them and those questions need to be something that cannot be answered just by reading the brochure/website.
5) To avoid brain fartage it is ok to have your application materials open in another window or printed for easy reference.
6) Since no one can see your surroundings it is ok if you have something nearby that is calming. For me this was a relaxing essential oil in the diffuser and one of those stress balls.
7) The interview itself may be capped at 30 minutes, so it may not be wise to be long winded.

Hahaha I’ve been catching up on bachelorette too!! The most dramatic season ever, truly
