Congrats yellow...you will love it there! Plus a chance to get out of this rain!🙂

The school looks great, cheapest private option out there. From what Gavin says it is the place to go for a nice clinical experience. Only thing is my wife isn't too sold on Phoenix. I'll have to start workin on her.

But there are so many beautiful rocks, dirt and cactuses down there!🙂 Actually perfect if you are a rock climber...you should take it up😉

Aww...your kids are sooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!! Yeah, I think you will like arizona yellowstone...LOL You can convince her by telling her you will buy her a huge house b/c they're cheap there compared to everywhere else and take her to live in scottsdale...make sure you buy a house with a huge pool so she can get a tan at least once a week...

I wouldn't want to make the commute from Scottsdale to school everyday. But that's just my opinion. 🙂

I've toured around 6 dental schools in the past 3 months and have to say Arizona has a "super happy pill" passed out to D1 students to last them at least four years...LOL. I couldn't believe how happy the students were and the bond most of them had. It was a cool feeling to see that...

Ya, they were happy. Probably:laugh: infuse:laugh: the air  with nitrous...I knew I felt a little funny while I was there.

Only the boy on the left is mine. The girl has claimed him as property at preschool and he is pretty happy to be dragged around by her. And it is Yellow Snow...we have been over this before. Glad you liked Arizona...you have any tips for me?

anyone getting nervous about hearing from arizona? well those of you who want to go there? how many acceptance letters will they send out for the 25-30 spots they are going to fill?

From what I hear..not very many acceptance will be sent out!! 1 out of every 6 will get accepted...

I just talked to an admin yesterday. They said that they had just met to discuss the interviewees, and that 30 applicants would be receiving a call on the morning of the 1st. Good Luck to all.

well that sucks, i guess the peeps with the best stats are gonna get in probably????

it just seems that other schools just want the brainiacs and not well rounded kids, so i figure arizona would be like that, hopefully im wrong.

i love arizona, I am from arizona and I could live here my whole life. I hope I get in but I wont be here the 1ST of dec. if they do call 🙁 I hope they email

i am from New Mexico and we dont have a dental school and arizona is real close so i really hope i get in on dec 1

I believe that ASDOH will make a phone call and send out an email as well to all the lucky ones.

bro, stats are not the only thing they are looking at. hence, the extensive secondary application.

Congratulation...your wish just came true!! Anyways, I called ASDOH today to check on my status and I was told that I should expect the rejection letter within a few weeks! 🙁 It hurts so much!! the disappointing thing is I didn't even get an interview! My stats are 19/21/20, 3.9 science/3.9 overall...my DAT are not great, but it seems like my stats are OK for their 2005 class...I notice on predents that ASDOH are rejecting lots of great stats this year...has their stats increased so much??😡

how many did they interview? 150? 200? and does anyone know how many they will interview after dec 1?

That is sooooooo true. I know someone that was rejected from ASDOH with a respectable GPA and a 22 on the DAT. I know someone who is now a D1 at ASDOH who had a respectable GPA and a 16 on the DAT. (Respectable GPA meaning 3.4-3.8) Extracurriculars and how well you do in the interview is what counts most. They want well rounded students, not just those that are book smart with nothing else to offer.

i wonder if they look at the survivor game and get any info on the applicants from that ( how you interact with others etc...)

well we also did a dexterity test that is not being used as a factor, but you are probably right, since they stood over our shoulders and watched how we interacted with others, good call homie

you dont want to go to UNC? if i had a school in my state i would totally stay, way better chances of getting in

love unc with a passion, but I got other schools in mind. Plus it's time to move on.

sweet man well hope to see you out there then

The dexterity test isn't being used?
I wonder why they did it then?

I'm sure that if one of the applicants could not insert one of the pegs or if they obviously fumbled over themselves, I'm sure they would take that into account.

I believe they mentioned something about how they need to determine if there is a correlation between performance on the test and performance in school before they use it for admissions. But I may be wrong.

course it's being used...if you only put one of that liltle thing in that lil' hole within 1 minute...that's not good

HAHA
I laugh, but my hands were sweating, and I almost flipped a few pegs off the table onto the floor!

i bet everyone was nervous doing that exercise, but some people i sat next to couldnt even follow the directions, they were putting washers on when they werent supposed to or going from the bottom up. they better not get accepted.. hahaha just playin

this is an unfair test because some of the girls got little fingers and they move so fast. I got some comically gigantic fingers.

i dont think they are using it anyways so dont worry about it, i just want an acceptance call, you feel me?

thats why girls make better dentists =)

The admissions director told us when I was there that they expected to interview 200 before Dec 1 and another 150 continuing through March after.

Did anyone else get the feeling that they expect that you will go into public health when you are finished and not into private practice? That was the feeling that I got but I am not sure because they did not just come out say it.

As unrealistic as it sounds, it definitely seems as though they are going to pick people based on if they think they'll do public health. This is probably why they offer a certificate in public health upon graduation.

i wonder how many of those 200 got post interview rejections? it does sound unrealistic to pick people based on if they are going to work in public health care, but i guess they did build that school just for that purpose so it kind of makes sense. i wonder if everyone who interviewed had sweet EC's or something? i hope i get in so bad.

me too, it's the nicest school ive seen so far

i also want to point out that i saw when some of the girls dropped some bolts and nuts during the test and they took 5 minutes out to cry. That was why I won at the end. Hi Five!
🙂 Just kiddin'

everyone who got an interview, do you think they interviewed you based on your gpa/dat or EC's and work experience? or a little of both? what do you think they are looking for more?

I think that they are looking much more at community service than anything else on the application. And in the interview they are looking to see if you are actually genuinely good person that can interact well with others.

Last spring one of their admission reps told me that the average student in their classes had 300 hrs of public health oriented community service.

Also if you look at their average GPA and DAT scores they are not that high.

My impression is that you need to be a saint to get in.

good luck

as far as being a saint, im not that, but having a lot community service i have. so now i just have to keep my fingers crossed.

I interviewed there and they told me directly that they were not looking for the students with the highest scores and GPA, but that they are looking for the people who will make great dentists. They didn’t even ask me about grades or scores, just about my EC and leadership. I think it’s refreshing to find a school that will look at the WHOLE person and not just their stats. Good luck to everyone who interviewed.
