Hey Guys! Just a curious and a prospective AB applicant. Would any one that's been accepted to UL GEM program mind sharing their stats. I understand that Irish med schools get competitive year by year. I am planning to apply next year but I want to know what should i aim for on the MCAT with a mediocre GPA. Also, would like to know if you can apply to more than one program at a single school meaning for both 5 year and the GEM? Any feedback is appreciated. TIA

I didn’t go! I declined the interview offer

Hi there
Just wondering how come you turned down the interview for Bahrain?

I just got my interview invitation this evening. Good luck to everyone! Seems that AP will be emailing ppl soon.

Does anyone know our chances of getting matched back in Canada? I've been reading some comments from other feeds and it's starting to scare me. They say that our chances are very low coming back to Canada or USA. :$

Anyone knows who is already graduated and actually gone through the process of Matching?

I am just hoping to be accepted at either NUIG or TCD, I think the interview would be good for expierence, but ultimately
I don’t think I would want to move to Bahrain

As for residency, I am a nurse practitioner and work closely with many residents. I know of one who got matched back to Canada from an Irish program, and one from a Polish program, the chances according to many students / physicians are about 5%, it seems to be the harder route to take. However, if residency doesn’t happen in Canada tho, it would be easy to come back and work when you are fully trained.

Good luck on your interview 🙂

Hi there... I do know a couple of residents who have come back to Canada for their residencies after graduating from medicine in Ireland. One is in family medicine and the other in Public Health. I think it partly depends on the specialty you are interested in. It is harder to come back to a competitive specialty, whereas your odds of getting back into Canada for family medicine or internal medicine residencies would be higher.

Those I know who have done medicine in Ireland had great experiences and are doing well in their residencies in Canada.

I work as an RN amongst many docs who did med school in Ireland. 2 anesthesiologists, 2 ER docs, 3 family docs and a radiologist

I also got my acceptance this afternoon and would be willing to be in contact! I've heard they usually make a Facebook group/page for each class but I have yet to see one.
I interviewed on Friday as well and was accepted last night! Would love to contact y’all before heading to Linerick!

Hello everyone! I interviewed on Thursday as well, and got my acceptance email yesterday by AB. I'd love to exchange contacts with y'all!

Hi there!

Congratulations! We have had the group active since last week you can find it by searching "University of Limerick - Medicine- (UL Med) - Class of 2022

Hopefully everyone will find it and you will all be able to connect with other accepted students as well as ask your International Liaison any questions you may have

Cheers,

Hey I can’t seem to find this group on Facebook! All of the other classes groups seem active, but class of 2022 doesn’t show up. Anyone else having difficulty ?

Try searching “University of Limerick 2022”. and filter the search to show only “groups”. I would post a direct link, but I don’t have enough posts to have that privilege on SDN.

Hi I got my acceptance to UL just a couple of days ago. If anyone interviewed in Toronto with me, I was the guy in the bow tie 😛. Super excited and was wondering if anyone knew what they would be doing for their living situation. I left to travel for a month right after the interview, so it's been challenging to research. Does anyone have any ideas, tips, needs a roommate? My name is Noah, I'm from Montreal, would love to hear from a future colleague!

I applied and got a room in Quigley. I wanted to be right on campus because it will save me a lot of time commuting, I hate getting up early, and the cost really isn't that bad. If you specifically want to live off campus and need a roommate I'd suggest joining the FB group and making a post 🙂 Look forward to meeting ya this fall!

That's sounds awesome! Does it seem equally as affordable as getting a place off campus? The finance talk after the interviews scared me a tiny bit hahaha

I really didn't look at any off campus housing. If you can find a place with a few people I'm sure you can save a few bucks. But even on the optimistic side, the ~2k you might save during your pre-clerkship years living off campus is a drop in the sea of debt I'll be in lol. It's a big investment but the school is great and unless something catastrophic happens you'll have an extremely rewarding career!

There is a GEMS Housing Hunt Facebook group you can join! It will help give you an idea of cost, as well you can post you are looking for a place and see if anyone has an extra room open with the upper years. Alternatively, you can post into the Class of 2022 page and see if there is anyone in your year looking to live off campus. You might want to consider that to find a place off campus coming in early to Ireland and viewing the places may be required.

As a first year Residence is extremely convenient and you get to meet a lot of the students, so it is definitely a good idea to try applying!

Cheers,

IIRC there was someone in my interview group (D) who wore a bow tie! Were you interviewed on Thursday? We might have met.

Hi everyone!

I just got accepted into UCD's 5 year program. I'm wondering if I could get advice or info about UCD since I'm strongly considering it right now.

Thanks!
Congratulations, great program.
Have you completed an undergraduate degree? If so in what?

Do you mean UCC or UCD? I didn't know if UCD had a 5 year program. Did you apply directly or through AB? Will love to get info if UCD has a 5 year program.

Oh great! Really helpful! Thank you!

Hi all,

For those also waiting on NUIG and TCD, I've been going through the old forums and I see that most people reported receiving decisions around Apr 24 for NUIG and the second week of May for TCD. So, I guess late April, early May does seem to be accurate. Thanks to those who followed up with AB--really took one for the team 😉.

The wait is KILLING me. I can't sleep. Lol!

Good luck!

PS- For those who have received decisions, don't forget to edit your Stats post on this and the Stats of Applicants to Irish schools and Acceptance, Waitlist or Rejection thread and/or post anew with your stats to build the SDN data.

Also:

What's the formula for this? Are we receiving emails from AB with rejections/acceptances, then a hard copy in the mail? Just a hard copy? Just an email?

Does anyone know if there is a UCD Facebook Group?

UCD. Since I'm completing my first year as a biology major, I have taken the general chemistry and biology series. I also got the IB diploma in high school

I asked AB yesterday, I was told that TCD released their first round offers this week! Strange that there hasn't been any word on here... NUIG hasn't released anything as of yet.

Thanks for keeping us up to date! AH! So nervous. Maybe it takes a while to get to us in the mail. 😉

Also, I know that people have received multiple offers before, but I'm a little curious regarding if those who have already accepted an offer (at one of the schools who've already sent out decisions like RCSI or UCD) get "pulled" from the list, so to speak? Hmm. Guess we will never officially know the answer to those questions.

Oh? Did anyone get word from them? I’d love to hear if anyone received an offer!

Let's hope! Maybe they do things a more traditional way - in snail mail!

If I were you, I would take some more time doing post-bacc work and kill on the mcat. Are your grades low because school was too hard? My gpa from my bachelors was 3.14 with Fs and Ds and I still managed to wiggle my way into ucd
What were your strengths? MCAT? ECs? I'm going to end my undergrad this semester with probably around a 3.1ish. I'm contemplating if I should apply and see if I get in or if i should do a masters first

THE SUSPENSE!!!
In addition, anyone conjure up enough confidence to email AB again? Lol

I don't want to bother them. What if they secretly have more power than we think and emailing them makes them toss our apps into a barrel of acid? :O Haha, just joking! I'll wait until "early May" has passed before pestering AB.

I did want to point out: if you added courier (FedEx) as your method of mail in the app--you might be interested to know that you can track packages that are addressed to you, without knowing the sender or tracking number by making a free account on FedEx.com.

Thank you! And congrats again! They should be sending you a welcome letter and package in the mail, from what I understand. It may take a week or so to reach you, or so AB FAQ says. Keep in touch on if you accept!
